I have been using a 7 day pass to try the place out and see if the travel time works for me. I was very surprised by the place. I had never been to a Retro Fitness and I have to admit the place is pretty nice. The staff is attentive - well groomed - A very rare thing for gyms around the area. There is a HUGE variety of equipment and machines. The equipment is well kept and clean and in working order - Another very rare thing for the area gyms. The mens area - Again really well kept and clean - A COMPLETE RARETY FOR THE LOCAL GYMS. The gym is a little crowded in terms of machines and weights - But, I have not experienced any crowding or wait for any equipment. The vibe is very friendly and upbeat and you can tell the staff go out of their way to create that atmosphere. While, I work out everyday - I normally work with a trainer 3+ times a week - Just to insure I am meeting my goals and keeping on track. I spent some time observing the trainers and wasnt too impressed with what I saw. (I have to say, I am very picky and snobbish regarding trainers) I will continue to take a look and see what the future brings in that area. I have to say that this place is a real value on every level and I am sure I will join after my trial is up. If you havent been there you should give it a visit and you will see what I am talking about.

I recently found out that I pay $10/year for a maintenance fee at this gym, so I asked Greg, the manager/part-owner, if he could fix some of the broken machines and work out tools. He said that I dont pay enough every month for him to do that. I told him to charge customers more, he said, they are all cheap. I asked him again to do something about the issue at hand and he threatened to cancel my membership. I told him this is bad publicity for him and he said that he doesnt care about me, I am just one customer, he has a thousand more like me. This part-owner, as he claims to be, doesnt seem to want long-term business. Instead he wants your initial fee and depends on you not coming to the gym, so he wont have to pay for maintenance. In addition, he always hires some individuals that are more interested in flirting with female customers than working. The 2 or 3 good employees that he does have, he mistreats them through his bad attitude and unethical behavior. This place has turned into a joke, I was there for two years and Cardinal Fitness treats customers much better so thats where Im headed.

Horrible Experience. I signed up my fiancee and I for the membership. We were locked in to a year agreement and could not cancel without incurring a early termination fee. We waited until the year was up and had to physically go in to cancel, They would not do it on the phone. We signed our papers and were told we would be charged again because they need 30 days notice of cancellation. I proceeded to pay for the extra month we would not use, and once I thought we were all finished, I then received two $39.99 fees claiming they are an annual fee that must be charged to my account. They claimed they could not reimburse the fees, even though I obviously cancelled already. I understand why this is the only Illinois location... Im sure they will not be opening any more locations out here if they have this kind of scamming business model. PLEASE USE ANOTHER GYM, YOU WILL BE MUCH HAPPIER!!

I dont know about the past management but I can vouch for the new management. Taylor and his staff are very personable and helpful. The staff are super friendly and positive. Please dont be put off by past bad reviews as the old management were evidently wipes. As a guy who works in managment, i can tell you that this new regime is very enthusiastic and intrested in what customers have to say. Dont dismiss until you go down there for yourself. They will not harrass you and it is very affordable.

I like the gym, however I dont like the yearly contract. This is a great space to workout at. My only issue is that, Im planning to move to another area 15 miles away. The only way I can cancel my membership is if I pay in full; get a doctors note, or move 25 miles away from any Retro Fitness locations. Its not really worth my time and energy traveling 15 miles to this location once I move. Keep in mind, I think this is a great place to work out at.

Really like the gym! They have a protein smoothie bar and the staff is super knowledgeable and very friendly. They do have a lot of fitness equipment and a cardio theater / its like working out in a cinema ...pretty cool. They do have a place for fitness group sessions and a monitored child sitting area. The mens locker room is pretty big and clean ! Good gym to workout!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I had to move out of state to deal with a death in the family and they refuse to let me cancel my membership because I was not there to sign papers in person. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GYM TO ANYONE. Still getting charged and having my credit score lowered because I couldnt fly back in from North Carolina to sign their papers. Unbelievable.

Awesome Gym... Love the staffs and the instructors that teach different types of classes... I would definitely recommend this gym to all my friends and family. Daycare issue for some people but in this gym they are so kind to the kids and they have some activities going on each month. Come out and try it out!!!

Just switched from Cardinal Fitness to Retro, due to Cardinals business closing. I wish I had joined earlier. Front desk is super friendly, club is super clean. Equipment is top notch. PT trainers are friendly, knowledgeable, but not pushy. I love smoothies and movie theater. For money I paid, it is worthwhile.

Gym itself not so bad. Staff and billing department... INCOMPETENT!!! Cancelled my membership in August for September as I am writing this in December I am still getting charged for a canceled membership after calling numerous times

I suggest no one should join retro fitness. Once see retro fitness cancellation reviews. They suck at least of $250 dollars from you to do a cancellation. Never ever join retro.
