I was living in their residential portion (due to poverty) for about nine months, the staff were very surly and disrespectful to me, especially when I used the gym portion, though it was part of my rent they acted as if I should be quarantined from the rest of humanity. The residential director at the time was a hysterical drama queen who spent more of his time selling romance books out of the trunk of his car and using the companys internet to promote said books on social media. I was evicted and lies were told about me while I was in traction after a very bad car accident, they detailed a list of actions and incidents which did not take place, since I was unable to ambulate or even use a telephone well for most of the alleged in-person warnings and incidents, let alone all of these alleged meetings that took place to warn me about my upcoming ejection from the facility. I was also accused of stealing a microwave, and the illegal room search that ensued in my absence led to quite a bit of my personal property being thrown in the garbage, which I had to fish out of the dumpster. Hanging out in the common room on the bottom floor you can be treated to criminal activity ranging from LINK fraud, bullying and outright violence. If you love your Grandpa, dont let him live here.

A former training facility for the Chicago Bears, this is one of the few where you can see the Ys mission at work in the adjoining affordable housing as you head over for your workout. Even though the facility is slowly becoming more and more modernized, the buildings old-fashioned layout lends itself well to exploration--request a tour of the facility if you fear getting lost! Camaraderie and a laid-back attitude is what you will find here, along with classes and activities that appeal to both men and women: Jenns Intermediate PiYo class is one of the best examples of this, as it appeals to anyone looking to enjoy a great workout without the fear of judgement, or self-consciousness.

This YMCA is defnitelity the worst Ive ever been to in the city of Chicago. Starting off with the awful location and people that go there. Inside it is extremely dirty and looks liek a bunch of mules run the place. Not to mention the staff is awful and gave me a rough time. Just to sign in as a guest from another YMCA, they deemand a copy of a drivers license stating so they could read the information to my local YMCA. However i wrote all my Information on Paper that they could have read to my local YMCA so a copy of a Drivers License is unneccesary and rude. This gym sucks plain and simple with awful equipment as well.

I think the YMCA Is great! I love the staff. I do wish there was a bigger area to stretch as well as maybe a studio room where you could do some workouts with a friend. There is a small space downstairs in the Bears Den but it can be too crowded sometimes. Very friendly. It is large, the cardio eqipment is up to date! Great place to work out- comfortable. And feels very safe. The Zumba class with Zac and Tyler and spinning classes are great! I think the eqipment should be cleaned more often though. I love coming here overall!

Zero Stars. While in class, someone with bolt cutters cut my lock and stole my car keys. They then proceeded to put a different lock on my locker, go to my car and take out my purse from the trunk and clean out my console. While at the police station, the cops say they get at LEAST 2 REPORTS a week from locker room break-ins. Definitely an inside job going on at that location. I was told. You cannot get in the locker room with showing your pass. How does one walk in with bolt cutters and walk out?? Join at your own risk!

Funky but functional. Disorganized, not as clean as youd like, machines not always in perfect repair, missing equipment particularly barbells, and overpriced (if youre not using the pool and the racquetball courts). On the plus side, its friendly, theres lot of parking, its adequate for a work out and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Sure, this is an old Y. And they don’t keep the shower areas as clean as the leaning tower. But as for location – what more could you ask for? Its right at the junction of the Edens and Kennedy xpressway, a block from the Irving Park CTA Blue line, and the Metra has a stop even closer.

We came once since the pools in ymca were closed.very dirty, not accessible to stroller, pool closes frequently due to private parties, so members can not really use the pool. One small pool cold water lots of chlorine. Leaning tower much much better

Friendly staff and good variety of equipment. Wish there was more room to stretch in the first floor cardio room - it gets crowded if theres anymore than three people in the area. But overall very happy with the facility!

I do not want to see dried and dusty sweat drips all over the back of the machines and down the sides! I pay 45 dollars a month to see this!!!!!! The Leaning Tower and Lakeview facilities are very clean compared to this Y.

As a single mom, my 2 boys dont have male roles around them. Having them in the program with the males helps them out alot. I love that everyone who works their knows me and my boys. Love the new workout rooms.

Looks like a high school straight out of the 1930s. But thats only because its one of the oldest Ys in Chicago! Has all the essentials but could use some updating.

Friendly staff, however, they really need to clean the pool more often. I also wish theyd have more adult swim times.
