Took my car here for an oil change and was told I needed an addition $700+ worth of work. Rear differential, front differential, pinion leaking, fluids under the hood in dire need of change. Little did they know that Id had the car looked over with a fine tooth comb 3 months earlier because I found out the dealership Id bought it from had lied to me about a bunch of things. Because the car had been given a clean bill of health, Midas insisting all this work was necessary seemed...alarming. I told them I would have the car looked at by my mechanic later but they kept trying to pressure me into work. I ended up fibbing and saying I didnt have the money so Id have to wait. They tried to get me to apply for a Midas credit card. Not even slightly joking. The guy is telling me how awful these issues were and how dire the situation was and I just kept telling him no. Finally get off the phone with him and call my mechanic. He starts laughing and says there is no way the fluids and differentials are as bad as they say and says to bring it by so he can check out this pinion leak. No sooner than I hang up with him I get a call back from a Midas supervisor wanting to "try to work with me on pricing because its dangerous to be driving my car like this and I could blow the rear up and that will cost $5,000 to rebuild on your make & model." He says hell do the pinion fix and oil change for $275. Okay, but what about the other stuff? "Well, that can wait if you cannot afford it. I would have it fixed by first snowfall though." So youre not "working with me on price," youre just saying youll do one thing instead of all the other work. How is that a deal? I told them no. I get my car to my mechanic and there are no issues with the rear or front differential and my trans fluids and everything else are fine, other than the wiper fluid and coolant, which Midas didnt top off during their oil change. I paid nealry $40 for them to not do anything other than try to scam me for hundreds of dollars and not even do what they claim to do in their oil change! The ONLY issue he found aside from Midas not doing their job was the pinion work, which he fixed for $50 less. The guys are dishonest scammers. They cant even do an oil change right. DO NOT GO HERE. I will never go again.

Here is my story. Our car broke down on the Kennedy Expressway just north of Chicago. Turns out our clutch just stopped clutching. We pulled off at a random exit, barely, as the car stalled out and needed to be forced into motion by pushing the gear while giving it gas, and we were able to pull into a banks parking lot in a not-so-good part of the city, albeit better than many of the other places we could have gotten stuck at. We got towed, and completely randomly we ended up at Midas Chicago. The original repair estimate was 1300.00. This was not happy news, and we were easily considering just calling a scrapyard to sell our 15 year old, 260,000 mile Honda for parts and just go get a new car. They took a look and the estimated repairs came down to just under $600.00. We took it, and had our old car repaired. We had a family member of ours take a look at it and turns out the repair cost that they gave us was actually very reasonable given the parts (which I have forgotten the exact names of) and labor required for such a repair. So this place gets 5 stars if nothing else just because they didnt take advantage of our ignorance of the actual parts of a car. The car works great again, but we did still end up getting a new one just for getting around beyond the city limits. If I ever find myself in that part of town with a broken car, I now know that Id probably go to this place again. Theyre reasonable and seem to know their stuff, even if their visitors dont. P.S. the 1 star review below appears to have been upset that problems were found with their car. Cant blame the place which found the errors for finding them since theyre just doing their job well. Dont like the price they quoted you for parts> Get your own parts and have them install it for you.

I have no hard evidence that they conned me, but I feel strongly that they did. When performing a routine oil change, they called to notify me that there was an oil leak, and it was gumming up the spark plugs, so they could fix it for around $400 with all parts and labor considered. I should have swung by to confirm with my own eyes that this was a major issue, and if it was, I should have asked them to just do the oil change, and bring the car to the dealer for the rest of the work, to get it covered under warranty. A service technician at this shop told me that dealers usually will refund work covered under warranty if you bring them the receipt. I found out today that this is bunk, and the dealer suspects that shops fib to get unknowing customers to pay for unnecessary service. The people at the shop couldnt have been nicer, and as far as I can tell, they did the work they said they would do in as timely a fashion as circumstances allowed. Im a fool for not checking into the reimbursement from the dealer claim, and for being too trusting in the Midas touch. I wont be bringing this franchise any future business due to my inkling of a suspicion that they conned me.

Chris, the new manager, is amazing. He takes priority in giving honest information thats necessary to fix your vehicle without pressuring you, still thinking about your needs. Ive gone back several times since my first visit and will continue to do so as long as I live in Chicago. Chris and his team have made Midas on Fullerton the place were my partner and I will take our cars for years to come. I want to add that all the work they did was quick and well done. I received up to date information throughout each service order. If you are not a Chicago native, you can really rely on a place like this to give you honesty with great customer service. Theres always coupons to help drive down the cost too, which makes this place awesome as well.

My daughters were stranded in Chicago because their alternator and battery went out. I called Midas from Minnesota and spoke with Pat. He gave a quote on the spot and offered to help get the car to his shop and could get it fixed right away. They sent two technicians to get my daughters car and got it in the shop by 4pm and they were done by 5 pm. By fixing the car promptly they were helping my daughter get to her destination which was Washington DC to work at National Geographic for an internship in videography. Thanks so much to Pat and his crew for showing urgency, compassion and professionalism. Top notch and highly recommended! From a very thankful father.
