Do NOT go here. The other day I went to this place and waited in line to talk to the baker. I wanted to know when they would put out the discounted donuts which I had gotten two nights before. While waiting, the woman baker ignored my girlfriend and I for about 5 minutes because she was working on the cake. Several times she coughed ON THE CAKE. She did not make any effort to cover her mouth. She even made eye contact with us. That is completely ok since I didnt ask for assistance yet. But a man walked to the very edge of the counter where you arent supposed to go, and she went straight to him. He proceeded to tell her that he was just looking. She then waited another couple of minutes before getting to us. (Continuing to spew germs on the cake she was working on) She then told us that they had never had any such thing as discounted donuts at the end of the day and that we were lying. So we went to the manager at customer service, where they told us that they do indeed put out discounted donuts, and then were shocked and horrified when I said that that woman was coughing on the cakes and other items. HOWEVER, They did NOT fire her or seem to actually reprimand her. The next day I went in thinking "Hey, the manager probably talked to the bakers and they said that baker doesnt work today!" And I was dead wrong. She was there and she was still coughing. Today I tried to return some shelf almond milk. Almond milk does not go bad if it is not refrigerated. The customer service employee told me that they wont let me return their almond milk. DO NOT EVER GO HERE. THEY ARE LIARS AND CHEATS AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH COUGHING ON YOUR FOOD. As for the reviewer that said that her cake was excellent... hope they didnt cough on it too much.

We hired Hy-Vee to cater our wedding reception and were blown away with the service, food, and prices. Hy-Vee was the only place in Ames that offered affordable food with healthy choices. We got a spring mix salad instead of the iceberg lettuce other venues were offering, as well as fresh steamed veggies that our guests devoured. Throughout the night, we heard from many guests that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. People loved the herbed pork and Millionaire mashed potatoes. They were super easy and friendly to work with, happily provided alternative meal options for vegetarian and gluten-free guests, and took care of everything related to the food so that we didnt have to deal with it during our reception. Perhaps the biggest hit of the evening was hot chocolate we purchased from them. We were just expecting a large dispenser of it, but Hy-Vee brought whipped cream and crushed candy canes for garnish and all the kids at the reception went crazy for it. We highly recommend using them for any party, as their professionalism, service, and food is surprisingly tough to beat!

I was traveling through Ames and had to get a prepaid Visa gift card to make an online purchase so my debit card wouldnt get flagged while traveling. HyVee had them, had a nice assortment, and knew how to activate them with no problems. Friendly staff. Clean store. Lots of choices. If I lived here, Id shop here. Nice people. You can tell a lot about a grocery store by the people you see walk in and out the door as well as the people who work there. These are competent and experienced grocery staff, not students desperate for jobs. If youre from the west cost and you normally shop at Safeway, youll like it here. A lot of the same things and a similar layout.

I was looking for green onions - I asked an employee if they had any, he said no we have run out, and suggested chives as a replacement. I argued that green onions cost 0.99 for a bundle while chives cost 2.99 for a tiny box, where 2 boxes would still be smaller than one bundle of green onions. On a whim I asked him if he would let me buy the chives with green onion pricing and without hesitation, he agreed - he let me buy two boxes of chives for 0.99! What a nice reaction, so I wrote this review.

Hy-Vee offers great variety and options in terms of groceries. There organic and gluten free section is well stocked with lot of options. The staff is very courteous and always available to help. The best part is there freshly cooked food be it Chinese or their amazing made to order pizzas. They also have different specials each day of the week. Tuesdays Chinese food is discounted and Wednesday is $1 pizza slice day. They also have a fuel saver program linked to Thier gas stations.

This is my favorite Hy Vee in town, but my wife prefers the one on Dotson Avenue. Honestly, neither feels particularly special, but this Hy Vee has more items in the clearance carts, and the Dotson one has a more atmospheric Hy Vee MarketPlace grill. Honestly thats pretty much how it works. The Dotson one has more open space and is prettier and better arranged. This one has more stuff, but it feels more cramped and crowded. The bathrooms here are worse than average for a hyvee.

I went and made a special trip, from out of town to mail a pkg, and their postal station wasnt working.i think they should have posted a sign on the entrance door, would have saved me from hauling my pkg out of my car, into the store anyway...i wasted an hr of travel time, gas money..but the lack of the sign saying postal station is broke...thats the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Sara in the Bakery made a 3-dimensional cake in the shape of a plane for the grooms cake at our wedding. She was super friendly to work with and pulled through with incredibly short notice. My husband loved the surprise, the guests thought it was great, and I was amazed at the quality of design. Very strongly recommended.

I come to HyVee for specialty items I cant find elsewhere. Ive started to wonder if one of the managers thinks Im a secret shopper! Several of my visits Ive been scooted over to another register to ring me up with only one or two items...no matter the reason, really GREAT service.

Good grocery store. Employees are trained to help customers! Broad selection. Health market has food for restricted diets. Organic section in large produce department that also stocks locally sourced fresh produce. Pharmacy. Large wine, beer and liquor selection.

Hy-Veehas a habit of charging too much for what they have and they do that because they want to gouge the students one time a produce manager in hy-vee told me that fairway sold questionable produce and that was why they were cheaper. NOT TRUE

They have lots of food for sale. You can find almost anything you need or want. A respectable cheese cooler, decent organic food section, good and varied wine and spirits and beer selection. Lots of seating for the restaurant portion too.

Hyvee is usually good and staff is typically good, but occasionally you run into a young employee thats either oblivious or doesnt care. Store is well maintained and clean. Management staff seems to be on top of things.
