If I could give 0 stars I would. Last minute appointment for my 12-year-old daughter who wanted her hair cut. We met the stylist and she began asking a lot of questions. I thought, great, she really wants to get a feel for how my daughter wants her hair. We showed her a series of pictures to give her an idea of length and the stylist continued to ask questions...some of which my daughter was having a hard time answering. “Do you want layers or for it to be a softer look?” “What’s your favorite aspect of all these photos?” As the questioning and level of intensity continued, I started to get nervous that maybe the stylist was unsure of how to give her the style she wanted—an inverted bob. It seemed simple, yet we had never been to this stylist and maybe she was new. The stylist then got very defensive and said, “I just need to make sure I know EXACTLY what she wants.” I told her that was fine, she just wants something like the pictures we showed you—same length, same style. She said, “I don’t know how the hair was cut in those pictures—it could be shaven underneath or thinned out, or layered.” I said, “That’s okay, I think she just wants something similar, it doesn’t have to be exact.” She then told me she would have to get the owner. I thought this strange, but said okay, that’s fine. Maybe he had some pointers for the stylist on what my daughter was wanting. When she came back with the owner, he told me in an annoyed and angry tone that the stylist couldn’t cut my daughters hair if we were both telling her different things and I would have to wait out front. First, I had no idea what he was talking about. I tried to explain that wasn’t the case and I was just trying to help my daughter explain what she wanted as the stylist had a lot of questions. He then yelled at the stylist and told her, “You need to get this situation under control! In the future, moms need to wait in the front and you take ONLY the child back to the chair!” He then walked off. It was so bizarre. The stylist said she was so sorry, this isn’t what she told him the problem was, but at this point I was in shock and told her the appointment was not going to work out and we left. Never, in all my years of getting my hair cut, have I ever experienced anything as rude or unprofessional as this. Completely unacceptable. I am most upset by the owners complete rudeness and total lack of customer service skills. This could have been a teachable moment for the stylist and a customer gained.

Absolutely love this place! My girls name was Rhiannan (spelling???) All of the girls are super nice and they always are throwing out a compliment! Not only did my stylist talk to me but i had 3 other stylists come up and tell me how great my color looked! Their services are amazing as well! Walked in expecting nothing too great and walked out amazed. My hair looked the best its ever looked. She explain everything she was doing and she showeed me how to style my hair like she was. They have self styling stations that i saw people using which i thought was super cool. But i let her style my hair out and it was the best choice i could have made, she showed me new tips/ tricks for volume and smooothness. I usually buy my shampoos and stuff at wal mart because they are cheap and easy to get and Like other people are saying they do tell you about the products they use a lot and i did ask why they talk so much about products and she told me its because they are trying to educate you on the products they are using and how to use them to create the same style they do on my own. And keep my hair healthy and in good condition. and my hair color last longer by not using salt in the other products i have. She told me most of their products are refillable and 100% vegan.. so i did buy the shampoo, conditioner and some voloume products. And i was misusing all of my products. Im glad she showed me how and how much to put in. and where. Their products are absolutely amazing. I could go on and on.. had the best experience ive ever had here.z LOVE BLAZE!!!!

After reading some of these reviews, I was a little nervous to go here. I was trying to find a place in Iowa City reliable enough to have my hair done there consecutively, and I have to be honest, Im pretty picky about my hair. I am so glad I went! I have only been to one stylist, Rhiannon, but she is awesome! My hair has never looked so good or been as healthy. I like to do a lot of different things with my hair and have acquired a lot of damage to it over the years. After a few suggestions from her, my hair is back to its healthy, shiny self. I have never felt pressured to buy anything since I have been going here. If you dont want something, say you dont want it. Done. The only thing I would even be close to telling someone to think about before they go there is about the price. A lot of people think the prices are high, but somehow I feel like they arent realizing that, in this case, youre paying for quality. I have had my hair butchered in Iowa City for a low budget, so you get what you pay for. Honestly, color is always going to be expensive where ever you go. I just prefer to spend that little extra for it to look that much better! I looked around at places forever before I finally settled on giving this place a try, and luckily picked the right place and the right stylist!

Let me start off by saying I am from California, near LA, so my expectations are kind of high, but when I go to a "professional" hair stylist I expect quality work. WAY WAY overpriced! I wanted highlights and wanted my hair much lighter, maybe that meant coloring the whole head then adding highlights, I dunno, Im not a hair stylist...but she should have. She had no idea what I wanted and after taking way longer than it should have my hair was the exact same color, including roots and all. She cut my hair WAY too short and when I got home I was crying so loud I woke up my boyfriend. It looked like a hackjob. I couldnt believe I had just paid like $200 for my hair to be the same color and to look like someone took a weed whacker to it. I normally dont get all upset about bad haircuts either because hair grows back but I was SO embarrassed and wore my hair in a pony tail until it grew back. Now I buy hair color from Wal Mart and get my haircut at the Great Clips next door and it cost me about $20 for both and looks WAY better. This place SUCKS, I cant believe it has such great reviews. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!

The service is awful and staff is extremely disrespectful. I recently had a feather extension put in my hair. The stylist who put it in did it completely wrong. When I went back to have it fixed, the manager tried to fix it herself. When she could not fix it, she informed me that I would either have to deal with it or she would need to cut a section of my hair out - this was in addition to the fact that she wanted me to pay full price again to have her do this. After telling me there was nothing she could do, I left the salon only to go home and try to remove the feather on my own. I came to find out that the manager who tried to fix it, made the situation worse by tightening the bond so tight around my hair that it wouldnt even budge. I spent the entire night applying conditioner to the strand of hair to help loosen the bond and pulling on the bond with a pair of pliers. After a lot of pulling and tugging, the bond finally came loose, along with a chunk of my hair. Long story short, I do not recommend going to this salon - the stylists cant even fix their own mistakes, let alone provide quality customer service.
