When I first made the appointment, I was optimistic. They asked me if there were any particulars about my hair, and I told them that it held water really well, so they moved my appointment up in order to give the stylist time to totally dry my hair. I showed up, got a stylist who barely spoke and cut my hair to look almost exactly like hers. She burned my ear with the hair dryer and kept flicking the hair in my eyes. Then she only partly dried my hair. My guess is that shes completely new to styling. Okay, the novice stylist didnt ruin it for me. But once she was done, she asked if I was ready for my wax. I guessed that she could see the fear in my eyes as I realized that she was going to do my lip wax, too. This was beyond bad. The wax was way too hot, but not intolerable. I figured Id let her know after she was done. She was clearly very unpracticed at waxing. She got wax all over my lips, hair, eyelashes, etc. She kept commenting on how the wax was really stringy (not the fault of the wax, darling). She would tug at the strip several times before finally ripping it out. When she finally finished, I checked out the work. There was a lot of hair left behind, and she had to redo it. More burning hot wax, more tug, tug, tug, tug, tug, RIP. I couldnt wait to get out of there, and I wont be returning.

Its summer & I Brought my 7 year old daughter along with me to Zen salon for my hair cut. On my way over to meet the stylist, the lady at the front counter told me that young children are not allowed to sit in the salon during adult hair cuts. She said this in front of my daughter. I was surprised by this comment & was contemplating leaving. I mentioned to my stylist, Kaci W., what was said to me, and she said very sweetly not to worry about it. So, I stayed for my hair cut. My daughter sat very nicely & quietly during my hair cut playing games on my phone, as I knew she would. She is very well behaved. After my hair cut & on our way home my daughter seemed very bothered and asked me a lot of questions about why we were told that she was not supposed to be at the haircut with me. I dont plan to return to Zen salon for any further services. I have been going to Zen salon on and off for the past 15 years. My mother, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, and my aunt have all gone to the salon with me for services. For the most part their services are good, And haircuts are usually above average, though I chose to write this review because they made both me and my daughter feel bad. I dont care to support businesses that dont want children around.

I was told when my stylist gave me bangs, that I could come in after four weeks to have a complimentary trim. I scheduled my trim when I had time (between a full-time job and full-time college course work, that is a precious commodity to me). I was told AFTER I had my bangs trimmed that I was "outside the window" for having a complimentary trim. They charged me $30 dollars to have the stylist trim my bangs. RIDICULOUS. They should have communicated to me clearly that the fourth week is the only week they offer free bang trims (which is rather absurd dont you think? With how busy they are and busy I am, do they really expect that this one precious week that I have time and they have time to schedule a bang trim?) This could have been communicated to me at my first hair appointment or when I called to schedule the trim. After I had my bangs trimmed, it put my in a comprimising situation. I couldnt exactly refuse the service. And I was on my lunch break from work--I didnt have the time or will to argue with the receptionist. BUT there is a word for the kind of vague communication and misrepresentation that occurred: shyster. I have never been so disrespected by a business that I have spent a lot of money at.

I have been getting my hair cut here in a jaw-length tapered bob for about two years and will continue going here in the future for two very important reasons, then one bonus reason. First, I feel spoiled here with all the efforts taken to help me relax and feel good including complimentary tea and a head and neck massage with scented oil. Second, the stylist really listens to me and pays attention to how the unique characteristics of my hair (texture, cowlicks) will work with my desired hair style. I always feel confident that I will leave there satisfied. Once when I realized afterwards that every day the ends of my hair were flipping up from wearing my bike helmet on my way to work; I called the salon and the stylist eagerly adjusted my haircut for free even though she had not done anything wrong in the first place. The bonus reason is that the all inclusive price is equal to or less than getting my hair cut, shampooed, and styled at a chain salon. Even if it was somewhat more expensive, I think it would be well worth it because going here is a very enjoyable experience instead of a chore.

Ive lived in the area for 7 years now and found the salon about 3 years ago after bouncing around for awhile. You know the minute you call in for an appointment that this is a salon that cares about the people the provide service for. They ask questions about my desired service that Ive never been asked before to make sure that enough time is scheduled for what Id like to have done. EVERYTIME I arrive, I am greeted warmly, even when Im just stopping to purchase more product. My stylist also never assumes that Im going to do the same thing as last time, which is what my old stylist did, so I never feel stuck in a rut with my style. She is always giving me new ideas on how to switch up my look and when we do, she is upfront with me about the amount of time I will need to keep it up. This helps me stay scheduled ahead of time which I usually do because I like the early morning appointments. Going to Zenders allows me to have the trendy proffessional services I want in an atmosphere that has the best customer service around.

I got a haircut and color at Zenders. I loved the cut, however; I showed the stylest a picture of the color I wanted (blondish). She didnt show me a swatch board or even tell me what she was putting in my hair, which made me uncomfortable. I paid for a full solid color and got highlights with orange tints. I wasnt aware she was doing highlights til half way through the appointment, she didnt even tell me. I was humiliated when I left the salon. The next morning I had called and informed Zenders I was unhappy (since they have a 7 day guarantee free of charge policy for color maintenance). I recieved a call about an hour later informing me that it was my fault for the orange color and I would have to pay full price if I wanted it fixed, $100. It was so disrepectful towards me as a customer to be treated so poorly and not have my 7 day guarantee honored (which I even signed at the appointment). My hair is greatly damaged and Im searching for a different salon to fix it. I will never set foot in Zenders again.
