I recently moved back to Baton Rouge from Philadelphia and needed a salon that was very knowledgeable in pressing natural hair. MoHair claimed to specialize in natural hair. On the day I made the appointment in person, the receptionist was very patient with listening to my hair story. She decided to book me with "Mika". I spoke with this stylist for a few minutes but immediately afterwards, the receptionist told her to be there on time for my appointment, no excuses. I couldnt believe that she was being reprimanded right in front of me near the waiting area where others can hear! I returned for my scheduled appointment and "The Joan" chose to switch my stylist. Ashanti (the current stylist now) was very patient and thorough in her explanation of technique she will use. The shampoo was nice but then the nightmare begins. "The Joan" reprimanded her employees out in the open with no regard to privacy or discretion. They sat me under the hair dryer with setting lotion when I asked them not to. After sitting under the dryer for 20 minutes, they decided to blow dry my hair that was now a large afro with hard setting lotion in it. It hurt really bad for them to pull my hair with a blow dryer. The lady that blow dried my hair was so frustrated that she told me that I needed a relaxer! I told Ashanti that my hair was usually 50% straighter at this part of the process before the flat ironing. She said she could blow dry it more with a straightening brush. I cringed. In the end, my hairstyle "looked" nice but I knew it was damaged. Against my better judgment, I chose to schedule a follow-up appointment. I showed up at 10:15 for the 10:00 appointment the following Wednesday. Ashanti was a "no-show". The receptionist called her and spoke with her. I asked if she was coming in and the receptionist humped her shoulders and said "I dont know"! I was floored. There was also another guest who had apparently been waiting a while because she had to leave to get food before she caught a dizzy spell! I stormed up to the receptionist and told her that I did not have time to sit and wait for a stylist that she didnt know was coming in. I told them that I was to never return and I will tell as many people as I could about this terrible salon. DO NOT GO!

Mo Hair is not all that it is cracked up to be. When I walked in i was impressed. I signed in, sat down, and waited a very short time before I was greeted and directed to the bowl. However, It must have been the shampoo girl first day too. I could tell that she did not know where the products were and some one was coaching her on how to wash my hair. She made the mistake of asking the owner where something was. The owner had a very bad attitude problem. She talked to all of her workers as if they were beneath her. She yelled, fussed, and corrected them as a mother would her child right in front of me and she knew this was my frist time in her salon. When she found out that I had chosen her as a stylist she asked everyone in the salon if they knew what style I was getting. Well no one had asked me yet. She yelled at them for that. As i began to explain to her what I wanted she just cut me off and told me that so&so was going to do my hair. Because I am young and the stylist is young and she do not have time to try to figure out what I am talking about. Maybe this girl will know. I asked her why is someone else doing my hair. She got ignorant with me, stop doing her customers hair to tell me that she do not know what other salon I have been going to but this is the way we do things at Mo Hair. I WAS SHOCKED. So the younger stylist kneeled down before me as if I was 3 years old and spoke to me very slowly like I was in Special Ed. Asking me if I know what style I wanted and etc. She sat right next to me while I was under the dryer as if she was babysitting me. While she was styling my hair I knew that she was VERY inexperienced. I WILL NEVER PAY A HIGH PRICE FOR POOR SERVICE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO! Im a natural chick (no perm), and I absolutely love my curls! I cut all my hair off a year ago, and my hair was pass my shoulders! I went to get my tracks cut out, because I like the being able to change my hair often. The lady, Terry I believe, loads my hair moisture and gives me awesome head scratch. I was grateful for this and even called to tell others to come based on the hair wash alone. Then the damage began. She blew dried my hair with a rather cheap blow dryer, then flat ironed where there was smoke each time she pressed it! It was oily and it looked horrible. This isnt the bad part though, when she washed it, my o so beautifully curly hair was burnt! It was flat like a perm! The owner basically switch stylist for me. By this time I was in tears. He deep conditioned my hair. Once it was official my hair was not going to revert back, a stylist (forgot his name with dreads) flat twisted my hair. It was nice, but it wasnt MY ORIGINAL HAIR. I went their with healthy hair, and a dry scalp, and came out with damage hair with highly GREASED scalp. Am I happy? NO? ...O, to add icing to the cake, they wanted to charge me $110.00. I cried all the way home. If you like before and after pictures, Im more than willing to give them out. The owner was nonchalant about what happened to my hair; she was all about the dollar--apparently. If you care about the health of your hair, and wish for people to care about the finish product of your hair, this is NOT the place youll like to go to. There will be a You Tube video coming soon of what was done to my hair at Mo Hair of Baton Rouge....dont go there ladies if you care about your hair, like really. They only care about money.

I, too, have had such positive experiences at Mo Hair Salon! My hair was horribly damaged, breaking and falling like crazy. I am extremely grateful to "The Joan" for bringing it back to its healthy state. This lady knows her business!!! In fact, I refer to her as "Dr. Joan", because not only has she improved the condition of my hair, I have seen several other clients experience the same results, thanks to her expertise in hair care. I also agree that she enjoys sharing with you how to take care of your hair at home. She recommends products and methods that will help you achieve safe, effective home hair care. Shes honest enough to suggest the product(s) you need, rather than whats the most expensive on her shelf. Furthermore, as far as her attitude, what I have noticed is that Joan is serious her salon business and aims for success and progression. Her tone is often mistaken as harsh because of her accent and her unwillingness to see a possible blunder and not immediately try to remedy it. The manner in which it is taken depends on the listener, I imagine, but Joan has this very friendly, yet direct, persona about her. I have never been at the salon and not seen her in pleasant conversation, joking and in high spirits during some part of my stay. We ALL have our faults, and NO place of business is perfect. With that said, if I have to spend a bit of unexpected extra time at Mo Hair Salon, or overhear a reprimand, I feel comfortable knowing that when Joan works on MY hair, Im getting SERIOUS hair care. Thats what Im there for, and I have proven results!. Thanks, Joan! I still think you should replace the "The" with "Dr." :)
