We wanted to use Mammoth Cave Canoe & Kayak for shuttle service to take us from our take-out to our put-in along the green river for a 20-mile kayak camping trip. We have our own gear, didnt need our gear transported, but wanted to pay for this company to pick us up at the take-out and take us to the put-in since they advertised that they offered shuttle service. When we asked how much this service costs, we were informed that their shuttle service doesnt work this way. Instead, we would need to unload all of our gear at their store, load it all onto one of their vans, and they would take us to the put-in. We were informed that we would have to leave our car keys with them at the store, and then they would drive our car to the take-out the next morning (which required that our keys be left with the car at the take-out). We didnt like this option and told them so, but we were assured that this was the only option. We then asked how much this would cost for our two kayaks, and were told $85. We then noticed a sign in their store advertising that shuttle service costs $1/mile, so we asked if our 20-mile river trip meant that they had to drive 85 miles, and the store manager pulled out her calculator and totaled up the total miles for our route and stated, "oh its only 45 miles, but the cheapest that Ill do it for is $65." She then stated that she needs to change the sign that says $1/mile because that isnt accurate anymore. She was very rude throughout the interaction. We unfortunately felt that this was our only option, so we went ahead and paid the $65. After getting home, we now realize theres another option if you only have 1 vehicle, Green River Canoeing, which charges $45 for 1 kayak and $10 for each additional kayak, but they have the same policy with the car arrangement that we didnt particularly like. If we do this trip again, well be sure to go with more people so that we can have 2 vehicles and will not have to use either company.

On 6/23/14 my wife, our young daughter, and I patronized Mammoth Canoe for their 8 mile trip package. It cost $53. We spent almost 4 hours on the river. The equipment they provided was in good repair; better than your average canoe outfitter. The staff was very friendly. Since the particular stretch of the Green river that we canoed is inside Mammoth Cave National Park, none of the local (cave city) canoe outfitters are located directly on the river. That means you follow the outfitter in your own car to the end point of the trip, drop off your car, then ride to the start point in the van driven by the outfitter. At the ends of your trip, you leave the canoe in a small canoe drop off area and drive away. The system works just fine. There are several canoe rental companies that serve this same stretch of river, but Mammoth is the closest to the river (less than 50 yards from the entrance to Mammoth Cave National Park). We have absolutely no complaints about our experience, and we would use them again without hesitating.

The people with Mammoth Cave Canoes and Kayak were very kind and helpful. This group did a good job of allowing us to explore on our own. We did not go on a guided trip, but instead just went down the river. The trip was 7 miles. The reason I didnt put down all stars was because of equipment. The kayaks we used handled really well in low water levels, we were as shallow as 6 inches deep at some points, but the paddles provided were too short for the kind of kayaks. It also would have been nice to have chord to strap our packs on the back of our kayaks. We each brought a little daypack- (water, lunch, phone/camera, first aid kit) and kept them on our laps because there wasnt anything to strap it into the spot for gear on the kayak. I would definitely go back to this place of business.

Greatest kayak experience ever. Staff friendly and very personable. Made you feel like a friendly neighbor. Trip took a leisurely 4 hours. Great scenery and islands to stop to eat your packed lunch. Great price and fun way to spend the day. Was very satisfied with everything and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun afternoon on the boating on the green river

By far the nicest experience I have had with my family. I highly recommend this family run operation for your next trip. They have been doing this for over 28 years and I can see why they are are still going strong. Just some super nice people. Thanks for helping make some good memories for my family. Andy H. Recently did the 8 mile Green River trip in a 2 person kayak. Had a great time, staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful to us as we were first time kayakers.

Rude service. Not worth giving business to when you can drive 2 minutes to a different kayak/canoe place with great customer service.
