Both of my children have attended The Learning Center. My son began at 12 weeks old, and is currently in the PreK class. My daughter began at 6 months old and completed the entire curriculum. While in the PreK curriculum at TLC, she was tested and accepted into the EBR Gifted and Talented Program. In fact, every TLC classmate of hers at the time who tested for EBR Gifted was also accepted...this alone speaks volumes to TLCs curriculum and how they prepare the kids for preschool. This center is very structured, and we are continually impressed with what our children are learning. Six years ago, I was hesitant to enroll into traditional daycare (as opposed to in-home), but it has been the best decision for my family. Personally, I value the stringent manner in which this facility is run. It is comforting to know that TLC firmly follows state mandated policies, rules, guidelines, and safety practices (fire/weather drills, closed-toe shoe policy, coded entry, etc). These practices are what sets this center apart from some other centers, and in-home childcare in my opinion. We also appreciate the high expectations and standards that the owners have placed on the teachers/staff. While it is true that we have experienced times of seemingly high turnover, there is no doubt that only the teachers that meet or exceed these standards will remain working with our children. We have not had negative experiences with the owners/staff, so the negative comments here are very surprising to me. Parents receive weekly emails regarding any staff absences or changes, weekly menus, and detailed class curriculum. The dialog between my family and the owners has always been great, and they really treat us (and our children) in a caring and respectful way. We also value the open floor plan, as you can see what is happening around the center, and the children become familiar with how each class will operate early on. Classroom transitions are made slowly and at the comfort and readiness level of that child. The owners/staff are excellent about reporting incidents that occur during the day, from the tiniest paper cut to a fall on the playground. This is something I missed when my oldest started "regular" school, because I was accustomed to knowing exactly what happened each day. Her first unexplained scratch in Summer Camp was a shock to me! TLC owners take this very seriously and document anything that occurs under their care. All food is prepared from fresh ingredients and the kitchen is on-site. Chef James can usually be seen purchasing fresh produce and other ingredients that morning for the days menu. As a Licensed/Registered Dietitian, I like knowing my kids are being fed healthy food each day. There is not enough I can say about TLC and the positive impact the center has had on our family for the past 6 years. Highly recommend.

A few weeks after my daughter was born- another larger chain daycare in town unexpectedly pushed us further back on their waitlist. We desperately searched around town for a spot somewhere else. We were lucky enough to have found TLC which is conveniently located a mile or so away from our house. My 2 year old daughter has been attending TLC since she was 12 weeks old. 1) I love the fresh cooked meals. She eats better than I do most days. Most weeks she had red beans and rice, gumbo, and fish chowder. 2) I also love how secure the building is- you need a personalized passcode to get in the door then you have to sign your child in and out with your fingerprint. 3) I love what high standards the owners have. Cleanliness is key for them. When an outbreak of a water-borne stomach bug happened (post flood) they went above and beyond to research and minimize the spread amongst the children. Everyday theres a sign on the door that lets you know what active cases of colds/flu/HFM may be occurring with a student at the school. And I get a phone call every time my daughter gets the slightest bump or bruise- nothing is unaccounted for. 4) While Im sad to say there is more turnover than Id like- all of our daughters teachers have been amazing. They really care about her and treat her like their own. I get the impression that turnover is a sad reality at most daycares unfortunately. 5) While at first I wasnt sold on the open floor plan- Ive now come to really appreciate it. Nothings hidden here. Its all out in the open. And the kids from the younger toddler classes get to see the older classes. Ive been amazed when walking through and one of the older 3 year olds will call out my daughters name like theyre friends. :) 6) The first many months of her life were spent in the quiet calm nursery which is in the back of the building. Its a big sunny room with lots of bouncy chairs and swings for the infants. You can really feel the progression as you move from the infant rooms up to the toddler rooms. Months after we started at TLC the original daycare called to let me know they had a spot open they wanted to give to my daughter. Despite them being $50ish cheaper a month we stayed at TLC. Very happy we did.

I really dont Understand all these negative reviews. My child has attended the learning center for a year now. Started off in the infants and now in the toddlers. She loves coming to school, loves her teaches, and loves the activities and food that is served there. My child is a toddler and can eat gourmet food just fine, she loves it and I have peace of mind that I know she is eating well at school. Id rather her eating healthy meals from scratch, than hamburgers and hot dogs heated up. I have NEVER smelled a bad odor in the year she has been there, and the center is very clean in my eyes. I am friends with many parents in my child’s class and know they are very happy also. I think obviously many angry parents get on here and vent because only people that are upset are going to search and find this review to post negative and things that are very false. When I saw all these reviews I was in shock it couldn’t be further from the truth. The only thing I see that is true is there is a high turnover rate of teachers, but I am fine with that because the teachers that are hired are very well educated, many with degrees or going for their degrees in education and early childhood. I know there are several certified teachers there also. I would rather my child have different teachers come and go that are very well educated and interested in early childhood education, than a teacher that stays forever that has no college education and is going to just sit and watch children. My child has not had any teacher changes except for moving up to the next classes. My 15 month old comes home with the cutest activities and she learns so many new things at school which makes me feel better leaving her because I can’t do those things myself with her during the day. I am very happy with both directors. They are always asking about my child and our family, I feel like they try to get to know me personally which makes me feel good. Overall I am very happy with my child’s childcare experience.

I sent my daughter here for 3 months, and it was the most traumatic experience for both us parents and the child. She is generally a very cheerful person, who loves going to school, as we know now that she has been going to another childcare center. At TLC, she would cling to us, like we were taking her to a jail. And when we go to pick her up, she is either standing at the gate, or sleeping with tear stains down her cheek. And over that every other day, there were "incident reports" that she refused to eat, or she refused to nap. Every day her teachers changed. They have some kind of rotation scheme, where you see a different face each day. I dont know whos wisdom it was to do that? And then every other week, the teachers are gone. And then you have these young 18 somethings that dont have a clue how to care for little kids. If they see a kid being difficult or crying, their first response to look away. And if the child still persists, out comes an incident report. I have special expletives for the director that I dont want to write here. For the initial tour, she is all sweet and friendly. Once enrolled, she is just business. I have seen her scold 2-3 year olds including my own, in front of their parents. She even went so far as to suggest there might be something wrong with my child. These are 2-4 year olds that are leaving their homes for the first time, and the way they are treated, its like a military academy or juvenile center. The only kids that seem to be happy there are the ones that were left there real early before they could start recognizing faces or getting attached to people. I guess these kids are brought up that way, so they dont really need any attention or attachment. A word of advice: if your child hates going there and is crying a lot even after 2 weeks, listen to her. It may be time to find a new place. Such experiences in their formative years can have a negative effect down the road.
