I moved to Portland last summer from San Francisco and finally found a barber. Unfortunately, when I really looked at the haircut I go and how it was growing out, I realized I looked like somoen who was trying to disguise thinning hair with a comb-over. Id rather be bald than look like that. So I wnet on-line and just came up with Ethan Hunter, where Justin does my hair. I was told to come in so they could look at it, and he was blunt enough to say that it did look like a comb-over when I told him what I thought. So I decided to give him a whirl. Im still going. Anyone who regularly checks in by asking me if I was satisfied with the last haircut is okay by me. I have been very satidifed, and I wold be more than happy to let "H" know where to go to get a truly bad haircut. It will cost less, but in the long run it will cost more because you will have to go elsewhere o have the mess corrected. I would give Ethan Hunter Four Stars. I always associate the top rating as being perfect - which isnt real life - and since the cricism was leveled that several seem to be written by the same person, I thought it wold be prudent to distinguis myself this way. It does not mean that I am not happy.

I have been a customer at the Ethan Hunter Salon for nearly 6 months. I can easily, and wholeheartedly, say my experience has been truly exceptional! The customer service, attention to detail, and genuine compassion is truly unmatched. I firmly believe Miss Katelyn Warren (Kate Cates) has been a tremendous asset and gift to EH. I have followed Kate (whom I call Katie) for several years. Katie is, by far, the best stylist Ive had the pleasure of working with. She harbors a deep rooted passion for her work, and continually seeks new opportunities to develop her craft even further - a true professional. Katie has helped me redefine my look several times, each carried out in a careful and communicative fashion. Katie is fun, vivacious and mindful. I believe she brings another layer of fresh and creative energy to the phenomenal EH team. I have referred several friends/colleagues to Katie and will continue do so. When my longtime hairdresser canceled on me a few weeks before a big event, I called DJ at Ethan Hunter, having gone to her a couple of times for an eyebrow wax. Not only did she call me back right away, she went above and beyond--asking me to text her pictures of the exact hairstyle I wanted and helping me to find a look that would work best with my dress and my hair. I was so pleased with the style that I made an appointment for a haircut the following week... Once again, she outdid herself. Entirely professional and unassumingly gifted, DJ’s top-notch consideration is even apparent outside of the studio as she always seeks me out to say a quick “hello” if we run into each other at yoga class. The atmosphere at Ethan Hunter is sophisticated, inviting, and modest within a high level of quality—an appropriate reflection of the beautiful, downtown Portland location. My entire family has switched over to Ethan Hunter! :-)

I keep coming back to this salon and specifically to have DJ cut my hair. I havent lived in Portland since 2011, but I honestly havent found anyone who understands my hair better. DJ is just really good at what she does and a great person who has become a friend! My straight hair is now full of curls (of the chemo variety) and I struggle with trying to figure it out and still look like me. DJ knows how to remove the bulk and give my seemingly uncontrollable head of curls a style and shape. I now live in Rhode Island and my friends were teasing me that theres probably someone in this state who could cut my hair. There definitely is, but they wont be DJ and the haircut will not likely be as good. Call her now!!

First of all, have your hair styled by Kate. I have been struggling to find a hairstyle that makes me genuinely happy for years. Not one that simply looks good and appropriate, but one that actually makes me excited about my hair. Several years and several salons later, Kate gave me exactly what I was looking for. Everyone on Ethan Hunters staff is kind and enjoyable to interact with, which makes visiting the salon even more enjoyable. They are also very fair with their pricing structure, giving you exactly what you need, without adding unnecessary "extras" that would needlessly raise the price tag. Kate is always accommodating with her schedule, but she is in high demand, so try to book in advance!

My job puts me front and center with the ultra wealthy, the college presidents and the politicians, and twice now I had clients discuss this place and reference it as the secret top spot for professional hair stylists. Its almost hidden. They remind me of a restaurant in Boston that doesnt have a sign. The manager of the restaurant (one of my clients) told me that said if you dont know my restaurant without a sign, you just probably arent meant for it. Ethan Hunter is not pretentious at all, but the professionals in the area seem to be willing to hunt them down because it is worth the effort. They are upstairs, and their sign is simple, but just look at the reviews they get here.

I absolutely love Jamieand my hair! I have seen her several times, and am always so happy with how my hair turns out! She is awesome at listening to what her clients want, and delivering. Jamie has a natural talent- I absolutely love the balayage technique she uses which greatly extends the time I can go in between color appointments. She is so friendly, easy to talk to and makes the whole experience a mini spa session. I can honestly say my hair has never been healthier since seeing Jamie and using the Aveda products she has recommended. SO glad I found this salon and Jamie!

Jessica was kind enough to squeeze me in for a highlight and root touch up on a moments notice. She previously took me from a blonde ombre to an edgy red with highlights and did a fantastic job. She listened to what I wanted, offered her professional opinion and made sure I was completely happy with the color. Justin recently cut my hair and I love it. My hair is very thick and he was able to create a style that is flattering and easy to maintain. My husband and young boys also see Justin for haircuts. Hes the best in the business! Highly recommend this salon.

DJ has been the only person ill allow to touch my hair for years. Shes a guru not only with cuts but also color. Shes great at listening to what you want but can also make suggestions that you may not have thought of. I trust her enough that often times when im looking for a color change i say "Well, i want something in this general range. Other than that i dont know, so go to town!" Ive never regretted that and always walk out looking fantastic. The owners, Jessica and Justin, are also wonderful and the salon atmosphere is genuine and comfortable.

Justin did my color and cut and I was blown away! It was exactly what I wanted. The salon is right downtown and easy to get to and they validate parking. Everyone there is so friendly. The experience was a 10/10. Im a 28 year old female and Ive been coloring my hair for a long time. Ive lived in cities like Denver, New York and Los Angeles where hair salons are top notch. Ethan Hunter Salon is the first salon Ive found in Portland that understands how to provide top notch quality and customer service. Best hair salon in Portland hands down.
