*** DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!! *** I worked for this company for over 3 years as a Branch Manager. READ BELOW FOR THE TRUTH ABOUT STARVING STUDENTS MOVING COMPANY: During my three years as Branch Manager I saw HORRIFIC situations unfold for Starving Students customers over and over again. All of which were situations that could have been avoided if Starving Students Moving Company cared more about its customers and employees rather than RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! EXAMPLES OF SAFETY ISSUES AND HOW THIS COMPANY WILL RIP YOU OFF: (I continuously brought these and other issues to upper managements attention and I either never received an answer or was told to make it work) * Unsafe and worn out equipment in terrible condition such as dolly wheels falling off while or the welded seems were broken, straps to tie furniture in were missing or damaged to an unsafe condition making moving furniture with them HAZARDOUS AND RECKLESS!!! Most of the trucks were falling apart and unsafe to drive with tires FAILING TREAD INSPECTION but approved anyway for long distance hauls, brake lights & turn signals not working, holes the size of a football in the floors of the back of the trucks that movers had to be careful not to break their necks while carrying heavy furniture, trucks not starting was almost a daily issue which caused us to be SEVERAL HOURS LATE to a lot of our customers who expressed there anger to me. The movers only get paid minimum wage to move extremely heavy furniture sometimes in severe weather conditions compared to many other moving companies that pay their movers much more. The company also consistently DIDNT PAY THE MOVERS ON TIME when the company knows they live pay check to pay check -- sometimes A WEEK LATE. I had to fight with the Corporate office manager just to get t shirts for my guys! It is hard to get an employee to care about his job and the customer when the company clearly doest care about them... The owner Ethan Margalith is very old (like 80) and still tries to run the company but leaves for months at a time. In my short three years of employment, the owner fired over five CEOs. The owner would send emails to the entire company promising things like a if we increased sales he would pay for a Christmas party... we increased sales but the Christmas party never happened. There were a lot of promises made and not kept. The staff at the corporate office rarely return phone calls after you have moved in fear of you submitting a claim for all the damage the movers caused. For example there was a sweet little old lady who moved out of state and had called me crying that all her antique furniture that was passed down from generations was broken or damaged. Close to $20,000 dollars in damage. She told me she had left numerous messages at the corporate office and no one will return her call so she looked up my branch phone and called me. If I had not seen for myself how some of the movers at other branches just throw furniture on the truck when the customer isnt looking I would question it but I know the truth. I notified corporate office and nothing was done to help the lady.

First the guys that did the move were outstanding, they were careful and efficient and I have no complaints with them. HOWEVER, before you schedule a move with this company be sure to ask about the "extra charges". They charge you for an hour of labor before they event start your move. The hourly rate that I ended up paying was higher than the rate I was quoted. There is a fuel surcharge. There is an insurance charge as well. There was also and additional hour charged for something else I cannot remember. In the end the move cost DOUBLE what the estimate was, I ended up paying for 4.25 hours of labor for a move that only took 2.0 hours start to finish. There were many other arrangements that had to be made (freight elevators, etc) and bickering with the company or turning them away and hiring another company would have delayed the my move and cost me even more. Im sure they know this, I really feel like I got bent over on this one. I really wanted to tip the guys that were doing the work because they were so good, but after being shocked with the final bill (that was two times the estimate) it just wasnt in my budget. One last thing, their payment methods are misrepresented, they dont take checks.

Same complaints everyone else has. The movers themselves were great, they got the job done and didnt damage anything. Props to them. Regarding the company though, hidden fees all over the place. I had a $600 budget, and it ended up being over $1,000. They cried that it was a holiday weekend and they were doing me a favor by having guys work that day (Easter), but then at the last second tried to upsell me another guy for an additional $40 an hour. This is on top of the fuel surcharge, overall 15% they tack on in the end, and some other BS charges. To top it off, when the movers called in the final bill, they had the office on speakerphone. They were chatting about how tough the move was, and the guy called me a mother f#$%$% for not booking the third guy. I was standing right there. Real classy. Oh, and they arent students. They are also not starving. This company is nothing move than a clever name used to lure in people who know nothing about moving. The workers themselves said I would have saved tons had I just called them directly. I know now for next time.
