I had booked a cargo van about a week ahead of time, but when I arrived to pick it up, there was no van. I can understand availability being subject to other customers returning vehicles on time, but I really was not prepared to have to drive a truck (even it it was the smallest they had). I also had ordered a furniture dolly when I booked the van, and made sure to mention to the clerk a few times that I booked the dolly as well. When I got back to my house and opened it up, there was no dolly anywhere in the truck. To make matters worse, the cab of the truck was filled with pet hair, and the windshield was coated in what looked like residue from a dog nose. And perhaps this is just my inexperience in driving a vehicle that size, but it sounded like it was on its last legs. Cleanliness aside, when I got back to the Uhaul location, I mentioned that the dolly hadnt been there. A different clerk assured me not to worry, this happens all the time, and that "people either dont return them or theyre overlooked." This...really was the last straw, as I searched all over that truck, and did not find the elusive dolly that could have greatly benefited my move that day. And on top of that...I got charged for it after all. Not what I would call customer service.

I gave the Salem office a call just a couple of hours before I needed the Van with my fingers crossed hoping they had one available with such short notice. The lot was well stocked with all the various truck sizes from what I could see. My interaction with the man behind the desk was pleasant and he explained all the pertinent rules and regulations in a couple of minutes no more. All of the staff there were exceptionally courteous. The Van we rented was brand new with less than 4,000 miles on it, it was clean as a whistle with ice cold air conditioning which made our trip comfortable especially today being in the middle of a heat wave. So I Will close with the following remark: My experience with Salem U-Haul went smoother than any of the other Truck Rental Companies Ive used in the past and Yes I would recommend You Give them a Call the next time Your in the business of moving. Place is great.. but is very short staffed .. only 1 guy working and the place is packed with customers waiting for a long time to rent or drop off.. please hire more people.

They are pretty on top of things. The trucks are always ready quick never a problem with over charges and they will ammend a bill if they make a mistake.

Not enough help in the store you wait in line for a while and computer system for paying very slow or the employees dont know what they are doing

Street parking only. Counter staff was rude and condescending and tried to pass off the starting gas level as much higher than it was.
