Things you should know: -THEY WORK ON COMMISSION!!!! -Manager (Rick) was dishonest/lied to us on multiple occasions -ALWAYS LATE -Price gouging Side Note: *Roto-Rooter refunded us all of our money from their visits after a long battle. However, they never fixed broken pipe and did not refund our money for third blockage and broken metal piece retrieval that another plumbing company executed properly. *Rick, the Manager at Roto-Rooter Livonia, also asked us not to go onto social media or BBB to share our experience. *There is much more detail to our bad experience with this company. If you want more detail, please feel free to contact me. (I will be happy to provide videos/pictures) JUNE: Had blockage in main sewer. Eric (technician) told us they needed to chisel off sewer cap. Broke metal pipe where cap screws on. BIG piece of metal fell in drain but NEVER TOLD US ABOUT IT NOR RETRIEVED BIG PIECE OF METAL [Fixed blockage, cost several hundred dollars.] BEGINNING OF AUGUST: Another blockage in main sewer drain. Said they could not unclog, will need to jet (over $1000) Jetted for less than 1 minute then were told we needed a new main sewer, were quoted over $12,000. Asked multiple times to jet the entire main sewer since we paid over $1000 for jetting and he said there is no need for it, they will have to do it when we replace main sewer and "will take care of finances then" but refused to put this in writing. Also, Eric still NEVER mentioned the BIG piece of metal that he broke and dropped in our main sewer from his first visit that caused the second blockage** [Fixed blockage, cost over one thousand dollars.] AUGUST: Scheduled multiple other plumbing companies to quote us on a new main sewer, all agreed there is no need for it at this time but all told us about the broken pipe and big piece of metal in our sewer that caused second blockage. [all quotes were free: 3 quotes under $10,000 and 1 quote over 10,000. Also received free video proof that there are no severe cracks and missing parts in main sewer pipes as RotoRooter told us and also video proof of big piece of metal that RotoRooter technician Eric broke and dropped into our main sewer] END OF AUGUST: third blockage because of broken piece of metal. Called different company to fix blockage and retrieve piece of metal. [fixed blockage, cost few hundred dollars] September: NO issues noted since other company came out to fix blockage and damage caused by Roto-Rooter.

As luck would have it, our basement drain started overflowing on the fourth of July. After attempting to use a little DIY (and failing, we were no match for the drain), we were forced to schedule an appointment for Sunday, July 6 with Roto Rooter. Im always apprehensive with home maintenance companies and steeling myself to get ripped off, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised from start to finish. We booked our appointment from our phone and received a phone call around noon on the requested date that they would call when someone was on their way. Sure enough, someone called back within an hour and a service tech (Joe) was dispatched to us by 2:00. After taking a look at what was going on, he suggested we snake the drain. We took his advice and he did so on the spot. When he was finished he showed us some lovely tree branches growing in the pipe and explained our 6 month guarantee. While he was leaving, we pointed out a drain to him in our front yard (as new homeowners we have no idea what is going on with our house) and he snaked that one out as well for no additional fee. He was patient and professional with us the entire time and despite the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon on a holiday weekend, I never got the feeling that he was in a rush to get out of there. He made us feel like we were his only concern at that moment which was a great change from some of the experiences Ive had lately. Overall, everyone was professional, courteous, and friendly from the appointment phone call to the service tech, to the explanation on how to maintain the drains upkeep ourself. I would highly recommend that if your DIY fails, to give Roto-Rooter a call. Even the price of them coming out on a Sunday was reasonable as well and I expected that to be a crazy fee so that was nice. Also, just one piece of advice we received yesterday as well that I think could be useful to anyone who uses a toilet: "Flushable" wipes, while technically flushable, oftentimes do not disintegrate and instead absorb water and clog up your sewer pipes. Thanks, Roto Rooter! It was nice to take care of this problem over the weekend as opposed to taking a day off of work.

I called Roto-Rooter after my drain backed up doing laundry-- there wasnt much water, just a maybe a gallon at most and none of it made its way to my finished room (thank goodness)... but I figured that the problem would only get worse with time. I made my call a little before 10 and was promised someone would show between 10-2, well, the technician (Joe, #367) made his way to my house around 1230-- this prompt service made me happy! He was friendly and knowledgable-- and tidy. After clearing the clog (which was a combination of lint/soap/hair and a golf-ball), he even helped to clean the floor around the drain hole-- an unexpected courtesy. With the service, I received a 90 day guarantee against future back-ups, which I hope I will not need to use since I dont regularly golf in my basement. (Still cant understand how a previous owner could have thought it was acceptable??) The only thing I would change was the price-- it was a little high and I found it odd that the trip charge wasnt built into the price of the service. I was expecting to only pay a trip charge if I chose not to use Rotos services (most companies I have dealt with bill in that manner.) None-the-less, the whole experience took less than a few hours from call to cleared drain, so I guess I cant complain much. If there was an option for 4.5 stars, I would choose that rating since Rotos prices were a bit higher than what I have seen from competitors in ads, but I suppose their "advertised" prices may have been artificially low. At least Roto billed the price they quoted after they arrived. Again, since Roto was able to come quickly they won my business and the experience alone would likely make me a returning customer if I need plumbing services in the future.

Beware!!! Total rip off. I called them to come and have a look as my sump drain to the sewers was blocked. Guy came and said 90% of the time its calcium deposit and we have very powerful jet that can clear everything and comes with a camera check also. Quoted me 1200. I agreed. He brought the equipment. Before he was starting I asked isnt it feasible to have it snaked with a camera first. He was so sure of the calcium deposit that he said its gonna be $280 to check with the camera and then if its calcium the camera check amount will be added to $1200. I agreed to do the jet cleaning. The guy cut some of the portion of the drain pipe to gain access and puts the hose in the drain pipe and starts cleaning. Literally after 5-7 min he pulls that hose out brings the snake with camera from the van and uses that to find that the pipe has caved in and is restricting the water flow. So the total work takes not more than half hour. Tells me you have to pay $1200 today and the my manager will come some other day to check where the pipe damage is and will give estimate of excavation and repair and this $1200 could go towards that job. I told him that he literally has not done anything besides telling me that the pipe is caved in. He was still expecting me to pay $1200. I had him call his manager who reduced the price to $640 which I still think is too much for the service provided. $640 just to tell me that the pipe has caved in after 10-15 feet under the ground. Beware of them. Thought of them as a nationally recognized company but its total rip off. Felt like an extortion.
