I used to visit the salon in Ann Arbor and was excited when I saw that they had a closer location. I went in and was excited about the service after speaking with the clerk and the stylist. I went in for my appointment and had the hair color by (I think his name was Justin). The color was horrible and I mentioned it was not what we discussed. (much darker). I thought it might look better in the sun so I left to see if it would grow on me. I have my hair done every three weeks and I didnt have an opportunity to go back for correction . When I returned for my color and mentioned the problem, he said he made it 2 shades lighter, which he didnt - I was basically blonde when I went in. He was not accommodating at all and refused to fix it and after much discussion I left the salon and went somewhere else the next day. Only then did I notice that not only was the color darker and two toned, it was three toned with a line horizontally and he had covered all of my highlights only to have a bland, amateurish color. I cannot believe they would not stand behind their service, and since he claimed to have instructed at their Ann Arbor school, it makes me concerned about the quality of hair dressers that are coming out of their place. The Ann Arbor location was much better. This one doesnt seem to have any management.

I’ve been jumping from hair stylist to hair stylist for the past several months not really feeling that amazing feeling we all look for when walking out of a salon. When I saw a Groupon for a women’s haircut, blow-dry, and botanical treatment with Alexis C. I decided to try it. I was so pleasantly surprised with my whole experience at Douglas J. Everyone I encountered was friendly and professional. Alexis sat me down before washing my hair or cutting it and took the time to really get a feel for what I wanted and what I was comfortable with, more so than any other stylist has ever done. Another pleasant surprise was an awesome scalp massage and hand massage, which I was told comes with each cut! As a mother of 3 little ones I rarely treat myself to things like this and having a little extra indulgence while getting my hair cut is amazing. My cut and style were exactly what I wanted. Alexis did a wonderful job. I felt great when leaving. First impression was that Douglas J. is running a great company with professionals and really pampers their clients.

Being a former Aveda Concept Salon owner myself, I have the ability to see through a different lense than the general public. I am very confident and at ease with the graduates from Douglas J schools. Their training is at least 10 steps above a normal beauty school. They completely understand Avedas color line and products inside and out. Continued education is a requirement and it shows in the quality of the services provided. Since I dont have to worry about the actual hair service received, I can enjoy the pampering side of my services This begins when I walk in the door with guest services, the consultation and service by my service provider, and my favorite, a hand and scalp massage. Whatever my day may have been, it positively changes when I walk out of Rochester Douglas J.

I love Douglas J Salon! Their staff is always so nice and make me feel welcome! They always making sure Im comfortable and giving me water, tea, and hand massages! The salon is always clean and they have a lot of products and services. I love their location! I can shop or eat, before or after. Their prices are pretty good, especially since tips are included with the end price! Kristen McLeod does my color and she makes every wish I make come true, in whatever color I ask for! (See pics attached.) Ask for her if you go there! Also, any other staff there that cuts or blow dries my hair for me has been wonderful! Mariah and Melanie have blown my hair dry and styled it- theyre great too!

I had a wonderful experience getting my extensions. I was nervous to spend this much money but Douglas J was the only salon I trusted to get it right. Mariah did my color match and it was perfect. I also like the no tipping policy and it makes me feel like they are doing a good job because they want to, not because they have to. The only cons are that its a far drive for me and that I had to make multiple appointments for cut/color/extension application. Update: Mariah still is great with the color and she helped me achieve a fashion color that is trending right now. Lydia did my hair cut and she was great at creating my vision for the hair cuts.

Alexis and Malka are part of my dream team! I LOVE what they have done with my hair. Alexis spent a lot of time with me exploring I what wanted to do with my hair, my styling routine and my hair type. She gave me a cut that looks great on me and doesnt require a lot of maintenance. The cut falls beautifully and works with my hair type. No more a.m. struggles with my hair. Malika gave me a beautiful rich color that complimented my cut. I was appreciative of her honesty in moving me away from something that I had wanted but would not have worked well with the condition of my hair. Malika put me on the road to a healthy head of hair.

I have an appointment at Douglas J Salon, in the Village of Rochester Hills every eight weeks. I have my hair highlighted by Justin and cut by Kelly. I love this salon, as everyone is so professional, attentive and kind, which really makes me feel very special! The hand/arm message is so relaxing and the cream used smells wonderful! Im offered hot tea or water when I arrive. When Kelly shmpoos my hair she massages my scalp, which is heavenly. Megan, the director is so friendly, and greets everyone! My hair always comes out great, which makes me very happy! I feel very pampered! Fabulous salon with fabulous people!!!

This is the most professional and yet personal salon I have experienced. The staff actually listens to you and makes every effort to understand what you are trying to accomplsh. They spend time explaining what they think will work and why. The teamwork and mutual respect is obvious and helps provide a relaxed atmosphere. Unlike many of the noisy distracting salons, this salon focuses on the client comfort and satisfaction. My hair has never looked so good both in color, texture and cut. After years of spending lots of money for disappointing results, I am happy to have found a home here.

Lydia is my stylist and she is AWESOME! She listens to what I want and makes my hair amazing. I would give her more than 5 stars if I could! She has even set me up with some great product ideas that help me keep the finished look when I style my own hair between visits! And I have to also say a word about Melissa at the front desk - she is so sweet and helpful when Im checking out, and she is a RockStar when it comes to hand massage! Between Lydia and Melissa I always come out of the salon feeling happy and relaxed and looking like my best self ever! Thank you for allowing me to comment.
