If I was reviewing just the gym and its facilities, it would get 3 stars. Basic equipment, not in a great condition but manageable. Smells sweaty and bad as soon as you enter and no locker room. But for $19 a month, it serves its purpose as a basic gym. The reason it gets one star and not 3 is the customer service. I had to cancel my membership because I was moving out of town. I remembered from the contract that it has to be in writing and they charge for one more month. So I sent them an email on the 16th saying I would like to cancel. Received no reply for a couple of weeks. So, I called them the night before I had to leave to confirm. These are the reasons I am pissed off enough to bother leaving a review: 1) The person who answered the phone said they didnt receive my email. Without even asking for my name or email id or membership number!! Looks like he has psychic powers 2) Then he said they didnt read my email-which i know for a fact that is a lie. Because I have an automatic tracking app and so I had proof that HE WAS LYING TO MY FACE. 3) Apparently, an email is not "written" notice. Which is fine, but how was I supposed to know that if they dont even bother replying? It seemed like they were trying to scam me and charge fee for the coming months as well. 4) I cancelled on the 16th and the membership was paid on the 15th. So I assumed that would be the last payment. But no, since I was 12 hours late in sending my email, I am charged for a whole new month. 5) I asked to speak to the supervisor and was never transferred 6) Last, I asked him that how do I send a written notice if I am out of town? After he refused to take my email as a written notice, I said I would come in and sign. Then he very rudely started questioning "but you just said you were out of town" over and over again. What was he trying to do? Accuse me of lying, so that I dont talk about his cheating and lying that I had proof about? In any case, if you can go to any other location, even if it is farther, please do. If you can join any other gym please do. Or if nothing else, just go running outside in the cold. Anything is better than this place that treats its customers with zero respect and lies to them and scams them.

As others have stated - canceling your membership is problematic, and not a good experience. While I lived in Michigan, this gym served its purpose. Its no frills, everyone who works there is pretty nice. Was kept pretty clean. Youve got your typical Oakland County meatheads that frequent the place (you know who Im talk about) but on the whole not a bad place. I cancelled in person the last week I was in the state. Months later I noticed the monthly withdrawal on my bank account was still going strong. When I called to inquire about it, the rep was friendly and naturally defended her employees against any wrongdoing. Thats where my gripe comes into play - its certainly a possibility that someone on your staff screwed up. Id been a member in good standing for years, and I didnt enjoy the blame for this being piled on me. I understand that youre a small business and trying not lose money, but show a little empathy for your members. The copy of the form I signed has likely been lost. So Ive had to go through my bank to stop any further payments to them. Its not likely Ill get a refund for those six months Ive been gone, and Ive been told that theyll be charging me another months membership fee, and because Ive put a stop payment on their authorization, late fees - which will eventually go into collection. With a little empathy and thought to working with one of your members, you could have avoided a poor review, and souring what was otherwise a positive experience. Ill make sure those in my network still in the area know what theyre getting themselves into by signing up here. Just unfortunate.

I was a Fitness 19 member for 5 years but I never really liked the West Bloomfield location because its incredibly small, exercise machines often dont work, television screens are nearly unwatchable, and most people are not friendly (except trainer Bill who is a terrific person.) I agree with the other posters that Fitness 19 is shameless about getting every penny from you once you quit your membership. I would NOT recommend joining the West Bloomfield Fitness 19 because its not a good place to exercise and the Fitness 19 agreement isnt customer friendly. Theres two other important negative aspects to this gym. First, there is no national customer service oversight for Fitness 19. Its a franchise business giving individual owners total power of their membership contracts. Therefore, they dont have to worry about negative customer feedback to a national chain and the client has no recourse for gym problems. Second, the West Bloomfield location was previously connected to the Commerce location and they were absolutely unscrupulous in closing the Commerce, MI location without notifying anyone of the impending closure. In fact, I saw them actively recruiting new members just days before they knew the location would be closing! They never posted a sign notifying people of the closure. Make no mistake, the West Bloomfield location will close sometime in the near future and they will be following the same shameless approach as before, getting every last dollar they can at your expense.

I originally joined Fitness 19 at their Commerce location about a year and a half ago to train for the Tough Mudder event in 2013. I wanted an affordable gym that would have everything that I would need in terms of strength training, conditioning, and cardio for a novice like myself. Let me just say that not only did the facility and its staff meet my expectations with their friendliness and attentiveness, but the gym provided me with everything that I needed to excel at the competition. Ever since then I’ve been able to make it a habit to workout every single day, and it’s genuinely a pleasure going there knowing it will be a welcoming environment where I can focus on improving myself.

The gym is small and cramped with a bunch of old people who obviously wouldnt like upbeat techno music but thats all they play. Not only that but there is a trainer named Laurel there who thinks she owns the gym and her self entitlement has led me to walk out during a workout. Edit: not only that, but my girlfriend has complained over five times about old men staring at her private parts while working out, with nothing being done about it.

Never notified of the Commerce Twp location shutting down, then they switch me to here, 30 minutes from my house, charging me a month that I didnt even use the gym. when i went to cancel they said if i signed the cancel slip, I still get charged for March. If I dont sign it, they dont cancel my membership. Rude, disrespectful, not customer friendly. Id rather become obese than deal with this business

Ive been going to this gym for 3+ years now and have always had a good experience. The manager Danny is super nice and will do as much as he can to work with you. The rest of the staff is also super nice and helpful with whatever. Even the trainers will help with simple stuff as long as they are not with clients. The gym has all the equipment necessary and the price is on point.
