Gym is way oversold in my mind, the free weight room is especially crowded. To make the problem worse, 2/3 of the strength-training section is full of machines that hardly get used while the benches and power racks are frequently full. What free weights they do have are jammed into such a tiny space that most of it feels cramped. Try setting up your bench without having to contort your body every which way just to access the plates and load the barbell. If all you need is cardio then you should have no problem because they have a million treadmills, bikes and whatever else. Problem is you can buy a nice machine of your own if you just save the money youd be blowing on a membership over the course of a year. Another complaint would be the trainers. Not all of them, but some of them simply dont seem to respect other customers they arent working with. Ive had multiple experiences where a trainer would cycle their client between 2-3 different pieces of equipment claiming all of them for their self. This winds up leaving whatever equipment theyre not using between the different circuits unavailable AND unused for long stretches of time, but dont you dare try to work in. Last major complaint is the guest policy. I dont expect to be able to bring a guest as much as I want or anything, but its a joke. I cant remember how many guest passes you get or how frequently, but its miniscule. When you do bring a guest, that person will have to fill out a full-page form full of details, then wait for one of the Lifetime salesmen to come out and try to peddle a membership on your guest. All because you wanted to workout with a friend. I did this once and felt like an accomplice to a crime. Finally, the cancellation policy is a joke. You have to do it in person just so that they can get one more chance at keeping you on. Then it takes one billing cycle to process. Oh really? Is it really that difficult or do you just want one more months pay? The only real positives here would be the hot tubs, the dry sauna and the steam room. Also, some of the staff IS kind and helpful despite the bad eggs I mentioned above. But to me thats just not enough to justify the cost.

The only reason why Im giving this facility one star is because its open 24 hours. Other than that, I wouldnt ever step foot into this facility again. The staff are all nice and chummy when you first come in interested. Showing you around, spending nearly an hour talking about your options and what they all offer, and kicking back in their office. Im already busy as it is and I was hesitant at first to join. I was told I could cancel within 14 days and get a full refund so I figured okay, lets try to fit this into our lives. The first week I couldnt get in because of only having one vehicle and my kids were sick. Finally, I was able to get them in for a 30 minute swimming lesson. The pool wasnt warm enough for them and came out shivering and with purple lips. The "family changing room" is a bathroom. Toilet. Sink. Diaper changing station. One small bench. Since I had an opposite sex child with me, we had to go through the "front" door to get to the pool. For a facility who says theyre family oriented, youd think theyd have a better family room set up. After the swimming lesson I determined it wasnt feasible to add the gym to our lives so I emailed the person who gave us the tour. No reply back. No, "Im sorry this didnt work out for you but thank you for giving us a try." This set me off so I called Lifetime to ask how to cancel my membership within my 14 days. I was on hold for 10 minutes for an assistant manager who never came to the phone. I hung up, wrote a letter, and after running errands stopped in around 8:30pm to speak to an assistant manager. When he walked up to the desk, he didnt even greet me. I explained to him what I wanted and why I couldnt keep my membership. It seemed like he was distracted the entire time I was talking to him. Even stopping me to chit chat with someone who was waiting to talk to him about adding two people to their membership. He barely looked at me and barely listened. He just listed why I couldnt keep my membership and said someone would call me if they needed anything else. No "have a good night". No "thanks for giving us a shot." No nothing. The worse customer service Ive ever experienced.

The aftermath: I thought it only fair to post this follow-up . Swimming-wise, on a typical day, things are okay, but not great. My early review was posted as a result of one event but, if your only experience was that one event, then you might be as displeased as well. On a general day, youll find: 1) aqua-joggers tying up lanes, 2) people insistent on swimming alone, 3) people engaging in varying degrees of passive-aggressive behaviors, on both sides, 4) people wanting to share lanes that are too hesitant to ask and then seemingly expect you to offer them a golden invitation without knowing their swimming competency. Of note, it does seem like your account gets flagged post-negative review. Staffs eyes bulge when you hand them your card and a variety of clumsy, catty, behaviors ensue. It does seem to subside with time but, as all I care about it swimming, its of little consequence. Lifetimes pool policy does seem setup to provide opportunities for poor customer experiences. The pool is unsupervised, which leaves guests left to contend with interpersonal difficulties. They now have a swim etiquette board poorly/timidly displayed, but it assumes that people can/will read it and care enough to follow the rules. A large sign, right by the pool, stating something to the effect of: "Lanes are not private, expect to share," would seemingly address some of the issues across many similar Lifetime pools. A general observation about this Lifetime is that it seems employees, mainly the support people, are unhappy. Its not uncommon to hear them complaining about work circumstances. Its not uncommon to see the dirty towel bin full and the shelves poorly stocked with towels during peak times. Instead of punishing the employees for complaining, it may warrant listening/addressing the practical concerns as itd likely create a better experience for the guests and a better work environment for the employees.

Life Time Fitness is one of the worst businesses Ive come across in my life. When you go in to join, everyone is super nice and life seems easy and great as youre now, supposedly headed to a healthy way of living. Theyll answer every question you have, and the solutions to everything you may come across in the future seems very easy. But once you get your membership, its a money sucker. Because I am very busy, and could only go in 3-4 times a month (and it is 5 miles away from home), I decided to cancel the membership and have my own set of equipment at home. But contrary to what they promised me when I first joined cancelling their membership is a hassle in every way possible: * they wont help you with cancellation over the phone, even if they initially tell you that you can call anytime to cancel * if you go in to cancel, they will try to sell you more of there business, and promise you that the new deal is going to be so much better for you * the lady asked me how do i exercise at home with my own equipment, and she said i was doing it wrong. But the list of exercises I showed her was what one of the trainers had given me in one of our personal training sessions. * they try to make you keep the membership "on hold" for $10/month even if you dont use it. * I was told very clearly that I could use my LT bucks till the end of my membership month (because I was already charged for one extra month in advance), but I couldnt use it once I got home. But she had showed me all these different things I could purchase online with my remaining LT bucks. And now the staffs are very rude when I call them to ask what is going on. They just say, that the moment I cancel my membership, my LT bucks expire. Im glad I resisted her "offers" and cancelled the membership before they have started charging cancellation fees (Im sure theyll get there some day).
