I got sucker punched twice in the face while playing basketball by a wanna be gangster. Once people get kicked out of the Maplewood location, they usually meander over to the Oakdale location to pick fights there. Tried cancelling my membership the same day over the phone and they wanted me to come in person to complete the cancellation. Explained my situation and they literally responded with, "sounds like your problem." No empathy at all, but rather the employee sounded pissed I was cancelling. I had to drive to alternative location just to get out of my membership. There was zero reason I had to show up in person, as the man behind the computer cancelled everything in less than 5 minutes and all he needed was my phone number. Honestly, I am pretty disgusted with the entire situation. But hey, what can you expect? Its LA Fitness. Never getting another cent from me and I strongly suggest that one looking for a gym just pay the extra money for a more upscale gym experience. This place is not worth your money and its simply unsafe. I 100% should have called the cops on that kid. :-(

I canceled my membership to go to Lifetime and this is what was posted on my Facebook wall by a trainer/sales person: Personal trainers are in the business of motivating people into good health conscious decisions. When someone says they spend $150 a week on binge drinking at 24 years old Im sure anyone would agree that is alarming. And its a trainers job to help save their life. Now maybe this isnt you but wouldnt you agree that working with a trainer increases your chances of success and betters your health after the poor care we take of our bodies. Especially drinking and fast food and poor health Conscious decisions americans make.Gyms are for people who are serious about getting in shape or staying in shape. Ive worked for LA for two years now and i also was a member at lifetime for four years before I worked for la. If your not ready for LA your def not ready for lifetime. Id just keep doing what your doing outside the gym its obviously working well enough ,you dont need a gym man your in awesome shape. Wouldnt you agree?

Pros: I really like the layout of the entire place. Very open with plenty of space to lift while the cardio is all located upstairs. I havent been there yet when the cardio machine I wanted was full, so there is lots to choose from. Cons: I thought it was a joke when I walked into the locker room and saw that it was all carpeted, but then it hit me (THE SMELL). Good lord, you know what carpet does, right? Absorbs odor. And imagine hundreds of sweating men dripping across that carpet barefoot day in and day out. It baffles me that this is actually a thing. I can handle the typical locker room odor, but this is over the top. Consider taking that out. Also, there is no disinfectant near the only ab mats in the whole place. So you can imagine how that thing smells as well. Oh, and no WiFi. Yes, that might be high-maintenance, but it seems like pretty standard practice these days. Plenty of places that charge half the price and provide this amenity. These seem like pretty obvious fixes, but what do I know.

Decent, reasonably priced club though a bit worn. Could use some maintenance. OK equipment. Nice basketball gym. Three racquetball courts are OK, though they are located oddly directly facing training area. Have seen better layouts where they are located near gym or other larger area. Staff is basic, not too inspiring. Programs are basic. Price is less than Lifetime, but then the offering is not quite as stellar. More for young adults than older folks or kids. Some recurring maintenance issues with the sauna and spa. Pool chemicals sometimes overwhelming. Locker room has carpeting that is vacuumed but retains odors (and what else?). Could use more regular cleaning, stuffy (recycled air?), pool is often cloudy. Dont go barefoot or may catch something. Bring your own lock, no towels provided, few perks beyond basic exercise.

If you can take a class with the instructor Amber, please do so! Just took a Butt and Guts workout with her and she was fabulous! She explained and demod all of the moves before the circuit. Ive been to classes here where there are no explanations of the moves and the instructor just strolls in and starts without ever explaining anything, leading newcomers to follow along blindly and resulting in a less than adequate workout. It would be great if all classes were taught using this demo and then action format. It reminded me of hip hop classes Id take at the Midway LA Fitness once upon a time. Pool was just repainted and water is nice and warm. Theres enough equipment to get a good workout. Highly recommend this gym for the price, because who needs to pay quadruple for towels at another gym?

Very misleading. Wanted to give zero star but that is not an option. At the time of joining they talked a lot and literally pressurized to put the money on hold for 3 days and since it was a weekend they extended 2 more days. They guaranteed me that if I decide to cancel, I will be refunded the whole amount same day and that was totally a lie. When I went back after 3 days to cancel, they handed me a form to mail in to their corporate office which they never mentioned at first. Its been a month since I cancelled and mailed the form and I still havent gotten the refund. And now they say that I have to show them the proof of mail. So just warning out there that if you decide to cancel and mail the form, make sure to send via certified mail as you will have a proof in that case.

Overall I like it here. Equipment isnt to crowded etc Only bad experience was with a trainer there. Some younger kid with acne and wearing pants like he was waiting for a flood. Fresh out of college. So cocky and arrogant though. He even told my wife regarding her knee and working out that "he could find out way more information and be much smarter about working out with her knee then she ever could be". This kid was pretty ridiculous. Once I uttered the words "well Ill think about..." he cut me off, stood up to shake my hand and said good bye. Biggest jerk that works at that store. Dont see him much now...sure his cocky arrogant attitude got him fired... However the GM was a real nice guy along with the other people Ive come in contact with. GREAT equipment to use too.

Decent facility but in desperate need of fans to move some air. A lot of their equipment is down for repair. Instructors dont show up for classes sometimes. Typical crooked membership fees, my wife and I joined a week apart but one of us paid more than the other. When we tried to cancel they apparently only did the paperwork for one account and continued to charge us for 8 months for the other while not returning calls to correct the issue. Had to go in in person to try to correct the issue and they werent helpful. Had to spend an hour on the phone with corporate to even get partial reimbursement for their mistake. Lots of turnover with employees so I am guessing its not a great place to work.
