Grand Theft Video: So, a number of months ago, a co-worker scoffed after I informed him I had never played the latest installment in the youth-corrupting franchise Grand Theft Auto and set out to give it a go. Family Video had a few copies, and after a brief in and out of the store on a Tuesday evening, I was able to secure a copy. Got home in time to make dinner, and find out the install disc wasnt working. I visited a few online forums to find out scratched discs would cause this error. I brought it back the same day, and the same cashier informs me the registers at Family Video work like a money black hole device. Goes in, and never comes out. She agrees to give me a $10 credit, more than what it cost to rent the title (minus the deposit fee). A week later, I decide to use some credit and rent four B-flicks. Three of the four of those, fail to work. I try them on a number of different players, and to no avail. When I bring them back, I am offered free rentals for another three and the cashier tries cleaning one I actually WANTED to watch (at this point its becoming difficult to find movies even worth watching.) Those three, ALSO dont play, or skip at various parts, making them essentially unwatchable. Again, I try them on several different players, and even test them on another DVD player I hadnt used with the first batch. At this point, Im tired just wasting gas returning to the store, so I call and ask for the manager. She tells me that I could return them, and IF the DVD in fact does not play on HER player at HER home, then I would be refunded. I say no, thats not going to work. Im sure as a manager of a video store, youve managed to isolate the one DVD player in existence that can read the dysfunctional discs. I offer to bring in my players to demonstrate, and this isnt a solution for her. At one point in video rental store history, the customer was always right, but having no local competition I suppose means getting away with robbery. I have credit at the store still, but Ill never go back.

Complete waste of time. I have gone to this store many time and of never fails that at least one of the movies is so scratched that the DVD player will shut the movie off. But of you look at the DVD it looks fine. I think they buff the movies down so far to make them appear like it will work so you dont know it until you are actually trying to watch it. Great service, crap movies.

Plain ole video store. I feel ashamed because I always get late fees. I eagerly await an alternative to the video store....welp its here, Amazon video for me from now on.
