I went to Urban Retreat yesterday to get synthetic eyelashes. I have a couple coworkers who swear by lash extensions and I can see how drastic they improve their appearance. Ive always been envious of people with thick long lashes. My coworker told me to see Heather and said she was really talented in the "art" of lashes and eyebrows (dont get me started on how much I hate my brows...I mean their arch is uneven!). I later learned that Heather co-owns Urban Retreat. I walked into Urban Retreat on an extremely cold night, after an especially stressful day at work. I was relieved to feel the really warm draft when I walked in, followed by a clean, calming smell that immediately made me forget about my day and got me super excited for what was to come! The décor is literally the definition of "Urban.” There is reclaimed wood furniture (I LOVE) that they use to display the products they offer. There’s an absorbent amount of unique little touches like fabric buttons on their cream couch, lit circular twig ornaments hanging in the large front windows and each room had the stylists name carved on a wood block hanging on their door…I want! I asked the receptionist a lot of “where’d you get this?” questions. I learned that the art work they display on their walls come from local artist which I think is unique. My first impressions of meeting Heather were that she has these big beautiful bright red lips that I could only dream of and her brows were perfect! I was drawn to her long eye lashes and perfectly shaped eye brows (which had an even arch!). I assumed that she used the synthetic lashes but she told me that she uses the lash extension product, Latisse. She asked me what I wanted my eyes to look like. I told her I didn’t want to look like a hooker..haha. I really just wanted to have them look naturally long and pretty. She got to work applying each lash individually. It took about an hour and we did a lot of talking. I told her about my eye brow hatred and she waxed them for me as I was laying there getting the extensions. After she was finished she handed me the mirror and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I felt amazing. You could barley see my uneven brow arch. Before I left she taught me how to maintain my brow shape and gave me some product samples (one was a facial mask and I love it). I made return appointments for the next 3 months! Today, at work, I’ve had so many people comment about how great I look when I’ve done nothing different. I am so happy I was referred to Urban Retreat that I feel compelled to spread the word of what an EXCEPTIONAL Medi Spa this place is. Go there, experience, and feel amazing! I’m a want to be writer, so please forgive this novel of a review.

I came here for my first ever lip injections because they had really good reviews with a convenient location. When I walked in, I felt great about it - everything was clean, the reception area is decorated beautifully and the owner, Suzanne, was performing my services. She was very personable, educated, and put me immediately at ease. However, since Ive had more experience at other locations, Ive come to realize that my experience at Urban Retreat was not all that great. First, Suzanne did not even use the full syringe of Juvederm on me!! Since it was my first time, I thought this was normal, to avoid the dreaded, overdone duck lips. What I know now: After the swelling goes down, 1 syringe will *barely* give you a little added plump. It is NOT going to make a drastic difference so Im not sure why I didnt get all of the product that I paid for. As you can imagine - photos from before my appointment and a couple weeks after show literally no change in my lips. Very disappointing! On top of that, the injections hurt more here than at my current place and I went there wanting Restylane, but was talked into Juvederm (my fault for not sticking to what Id researched). The real reason that I wont ever return is that while paying, I asked the front desk receptionist if its standard to tip. What I know now: IT IS NOT STANDARD TO TIP at a medspa for these services and shame on those who accept it. I spent over $800 for Juvederm and 20 units of Botox but that wasnt enough - they accepted an additional $80 cash as a tip for a 20-minute appointment!! Pretty pathetic!

I had a bad outcome with eyelash extensions. I emailed the owner about my concerns and she never responded. Both times I had the extensions filled the UR, the fill looked great initially. However, over the following weeks it became clear that the lashes were clumped. There were 3-4 extensions attached to one natural lash. This most recent time, the weight of the "clumps" caused significant irritation to the natural lash follicle and one of my eyelids became very red and puffy. I had to have the extensions removed 10 days after Corie filled them. Ive had eyelash extensions for over a year (done by someone in California before I moved to MN). I know how to take care of them and Ive never had any problems before. I have also never seen that many extensions attached to one lash. I dont believe that that is how they are supposed to be applied. My fear is that the staff was attempting to work fast but not being careful to protect the health of the natural lash. It is a bummer because I like the staff and the spa a lot. However, Im super disappointed with this experience and now have to endure the cost of starting over with a new set of extensions. Im also disappointed I never heard back from Suzanne.
