I was needing a water pump replaced in my Cavalier. After the shop that diagnosed the problem tried to highball me into paying over $300.00 for the work, I started calling around town to find better prices. One of the lowest came from D & Sons, who gave me a total quote of a little over $150.00. The guy I talked to broke down the costs for me, outlining what he would charge for labor, part, and antifreeze fill. I drove my car over to D & Sons at 8:30 the next morning. Be forewarned: they dont spend capital on keeping a pristine shop. Youre not going to find leather chairs sitting on hardwood floors in the waiting room. This is a shadetree shop carved out of a hill by the railroad track. I initially passed the shop by because of its exterior - dont make the same mistake. I went in and spoke to the same guy I had the day before. He remembered me and pulled my quote, which he had saved (even though I had made no promises of coming) and which was exactly the same as he had told me previously. He said he could get the car done by early afternoon. I also mentioned a problem with hesitation accelerating out of corners. He said hed clean the throttle body out for me - NO CHARGE. He then recommended a rather obscure product available at Wal-Mart for cleaning injectors. He told me he could get it for me, but that his price would be substantially higher than Wal-Mart, and that I should just grab some there instead. Thats integrity, friends. I thought the time frame for having the car finished was probably optimistic, so I had a contingency plan to get transportation to get to work. I didnt need it. I got a call a little after 2:00 that afternoon saying my car was finished. I went to settle up, and guess what...no surprise charges or sudden problems I hadnt complained about. The cars running like an absolute champ, and without having to pay somebodys outrageous lease on a busy intersection. Bottom line: If you insist on someone with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering who works on cars in a spotless shop with waxed floors and a plasma television in the waiting room, D & Sons probably wont be your cup of tea. But if you have a car thats more transportation than art form and just want somebody who knows what theyre doing and wont screw you over, D & Sons should be first on your list.

I have been very happy with the service Ive received from D & Sons. I always feel that they are very fair with their pricing, and after having been there for the replacement of 4 belts (including timing), an exhaust system fix, oil changes, and more (I have an old car) I am very confident in the quality of their work. There have been opportunities where they could have charged me more and I would have never known, but theyve been honest in telling me, "you wont need that replaced for awhile yet." There have also been times when I brought it in for one thing and they found other issues, informed me, and fixed them. When you move to a new city, you always look for a mechanic that you can trust -- well these are the best ones Ive found. I had them recommended to me, and Im passing on the recommendation.

Looks can be deceiving. I found used lottery scratcher tickets on the floor, plywood countertops, and a soda machine that spits out orange when you press root beer. I also found knowledgeable, friendly guys who fixed the steering on my truck in less time than they promised, and for a reasonable price. Bottom line: Ill go back there again if something breaks or wears out. Who cares what the place looks like? It doesnt affect their ability to fix cars.

Great guys and honest too! Brought my van in with what I was told in an inspection to be a leak in our power steering. They ran dye through the system and found nothing, even took me into the bay to show me there was not a leak. Sent me on my way with no charge for checking it out. It was refreshing to have an experience where I didnt feel like I was being taken. I will definitely bring my vehicles to D & Sons for any future work needed!
