Ive been a member for a little over a month...and so far, I really like it. The staff has been very friendly and helpful...although I was a pretty disappointed with my "free" training session that came with my membership sign-up...it was basically just another tour of the facility and an opportunity to pitch their personal trainers for an additional fee. I guess I was hoping they would weigh and measure me and give me a starter routine, so I knew what I should be doing in order to reach my goals...hence the reason I joined. Then I wouldnt mind paying for some follow-up training to make sure Im staying on the right track. Oh well. I attend numerous classes throughout the week and use the circuit and machines frequently. Zumba kicked my butt and I didnt think Yoga would make me sweat so much! I was really concerned that it would be too crowded, as the parking lot is always FULL...but the machines are always available and the place never seems to be that busy. Not sure where all the people are hiding... Reading some of the other reviews...Im not sure if CCHC has made some improvements...but I have yet to find a dirty machine...and Im pretty sure if I did, they would be willing to wipe it off for me. Also, the contract seemed standard...like any other contract you would find at a gym, Youre locked in for a year and then month-to-month there after...UNLESS...you make changes to your membership, then the 12 mo commitment starts over. For example, I started with a family plan consisting of 5 people...but I thought my sister might want to join as well...the CCHC Rep suggested that I add her sooner rather than later, to avoid extending my 12mo commitment. I felt he was very upfront about the contract details. If you have concerns, just ask the CCHC Rep to explain. I would recommend this gym!

Beware, and dont expect reasonable negotiations here - in fact, it might be good to bring your attorney to review the contracts! During the course of a move out of town, we attempted to cancel our membership after over a year of use. We were told to fill out paperwork, which we did, and to also provide supporting documents as proof of the move. The staff informed us that we could bring these supporting documents in whenever it was convenient, however when we provided these a few weeks later, they informed us that we were now too late and that we would be billed for an additional month. I reached out to the manager to discuss this situation, and instead of working towards a solution, she postured behind the language of the contract and is refusing to provide any concessions towards reconciling what was bogus information provided by her staff. While its expected that we all be held to account on the contracts we sign, we also expect to be provided accurate information and for management to strive for good customer relations - even when customers are ending contracts as a result of a move. My experience with the manager at this location proves to me that good will is not a top priority, and that its more important for Capital City Health Club to squeeze another month of billing from our situation than to send a customer out the door with a good opinion of our experiences at the club.

Very spacious; you never feel crowded, even when the parking lot is full. Nice, brand new machines that are kept fairly clean. I havent taken any classes so no comment there. The basketball court is very nice, although the volleyball net at halfcourt is apparently a permanent fixture in the gym now. Their policy is not to have any scheduled events at all in the gym, which makes it impossible to get any pickup basketball games going. And now that the net is up fulltime, it more or less makes the hoops unusable: you will be confined to the paint area and be in constant fear of taking a volleyball to the face. I have to knock the rating down to 3 stars because of the new volleyball regime. Not to mention the place always feels like it is trying to cut costs at every corner. I would guess their numbers werent near what they had hoped. 4 stars if you dont want to play basketball. It would be 5 stars with a racquetball court. Really wish I could find a gym with a basketball court, pickup basketball games, that doesnt allow kids. Unfortunately no such place exists in Helena.

I have been going to this gym for 8 months, about 3 times a week. I am mostly in the free weight section. I was not sure what to expect, as this is my first gym experience, and I was very overweight when I started. I am happy to say that I look forward to and love using the facilities here. Not sure why there are so many complaints about the weight mess, I only see problems when the occasional person does not rerack, and I dont mind pitching in once in a while. But the best thing about this gym is that, even though I started out as "the fat old lady" in the weight section, I have NEVER had any problems from staff or fellow customers. I have been lifting for 3 years, so I am not just fooling around, but I was a bit hesitant about going in and doing my routine lifts. Now I am a more average person in that section, and I still have zero problems, just the occasional polite question about using a weight or if I have seem anyone using the rack next to me. The front desk people are always friendly too.

I have been an avid gym goer for over 18 years, and in my experience all gyms have a certain bias towards their young and health patrons, and is almost to be expected no matter where you go. BUT in end gym staff tend to be there to do their job and assist all their clients. That however has not been my experience with Capital City Health Club. Unless you are in your early 20s with a nice fit body dont expect the staff to help you at all. I have tried to get assistance five times from their staff now and have been ignored all five times even though they helped the young ladies before me and immediately started helping the young ladies behind me after I decided to give up and leave. Ever since these experiences I have noticed that staff really have a bias to helping only a certain clientele at the gym. It is a beautiful facility, with great equipment, but I would highly recommend asking the management if they have provided training with their staff about customer service before signing your contract.

I had my membership for over a year and then decided to cancel due to the fact I use the gym at work more since I moved across town. I thought that I had fully canceled my membership but instead they had only canceled the other name on the account because I hadnt listed my name also. I was the primary account holder and wanted to cancel all of it. Because of this I ended up paying for an additional three months under a one person membership that I didnt even know I had. Also the front desk manager Nicole made it seem like it was my fault and gave complete bs answers as to why it hadnt been canceled and put the blame on her staff. (The kid I had talked to the night before had apologized and told me it happens all the time.) Bottom line- if you want to cancel your account be sure to list every single person on your account otherwise they will keep billing you. Im out $150 and I didnt even get a fake "Im sorry sir" from her.
