I normally dont write reviews, but seeing Im paying this business every month in perpetuity, why not? I cant even get a human on the phone to find out what they are billing me for ($100+ this month alone), so Im documenting here. Pros: Good deal/quality for a gym in Hoboken. Cons: part of the deal is Retro Fitness will charge you forever. No matter what you do. They are like the Terminator. They never stop. I enjoyed this gym 1 time when I lived in Hoboken. I had to move to Manhattan suddenly. They wouldnt let me cancel my membership because there is a Retro Fitness near my new apartment. This location near my new apartment does not live up to the same standard. Specifically - it is unclean - reminds me of what it would be like to work out in the subway. The bathroom looks and smells like a Penn Station bathroom. I have begrudgingly been paying $37.27 a month for a gym I do not use. This month they hit me with the usual $37.27 PLUS bonus $74.90 "mystery" fee (see image). The charge on my statement directs me to a phone number. The phone number has a recording directing me to my gym location. I try to call the gym location (at 1pm on a non-holiday Tuesday - they should be available) - no human available. I would honestly just like to speak to someone so I could pay the rest of the contract off and have them stop hitting me with mystery charges. Their own recording says "A recent unrecognized charge is probably your clubs annual fee" but I have not been a member for 12 months. SUMMARY: My advice would be to sign up for a better gym. You will end up paying for it anyway in "recent unrecognized charges," and the frustration at lack of customer service isnt worth it.

I tried this gym, and was very disappointed. I had a terrible fall last year during the snowstorm. I still have difficulty walking, and due for additional surgery I tried repeatdly to contact the manager by phone, but never received a return call. I sent by certified mail a doctors note due to not being able to work out for a few months, Retro signed for the letter, but continued to demand payment! The day of my surgery I received a call from Retro asking for payment, the next day I received another call from Retro requesting payment. The following day another call from Retro. Im trying to recover from surgery, Retro is now sending emails stating I need to pay for a service that should be on medical hold! My bank sent new debit cards that has the chip. I refused to update my billing information for being harrassed! On my way to physical threapy I received a call from a collection agency Retro hired. I explained my situation, and the collection agency stated they will no longer contact me! This agency confirmed this is a form of harrassment! Ive worked out at several gyms for years, never had an issue until I tried Retro! Damn Shame all this just for 3 months of medical leave!!

This place is essentially a scam, in my experience, with inaccessible management and no accountability to its customers. "Mike," the "manager," is virtually unreachable, having always "just stepped out" and apparently incapable of returning calls. I became a member six weeks postpartum; soon thereafter, my doctor let me know I shouldnt be working out, and provided me with a medical note. Retro stopped charging me for two months, before calling and saying I would need yet another note… Despite it being the same issue. Because my doctor requires additional visits to provide notes, its a tossup of whether I would rather pay a co-pay to see my doctor, or pay for a gym membership Im medically prohibited from using. As I said, the whole set up turns out to just be a scam.

This is an absolute top notch facility! Perfect location for the busy lifestyles of the locals. Retro has all the latest equipment and there are plenty of cardio machines to choose from. I like to mix up my workout to get the best results and Retro affords me that opportunity on a daily basis. The locker rooms are spotless as are all of the restrooms which is always a big plus. I look forward to getting there after a long day at work but with the flexible hours Retro has sometimes I even try to get there before work. This gym is definitely a great addition to this thriving downtown area! (PS - Luv the juice bar!)

Convenient location on Washington St, and great additional amenitites (from chiropractic clinic to personal training room) to go with the gym experience. All the people that work behind the counter are always friendly and in a good mood, and love to chat. They got promotions for everything all the time, some of them in the form of contests. So if you wanna get free shakes or monthlies, step up your game!

This place has just been one big let down after another. Management is unable to properly run a gym. Place is seriously lacking equipment. You have to march around 3 different stories to find your eqt. Weirdest most unusual gym lay out I have ever seen. If you ask me all the other reviews here seem like retro fit employes trying to sell the gym and shakes as opposed to actually reviewing the gym.

Derill spin class is so much fun he is the best spin instructor around wait worse news Derill not here nomore had to edit my review this gym is not even worth 1 dollar trust me Derill was the only thing good about this gym if its true hes gone then dont sign up u will waste your money

Friendliest staff around! This 3-story gym offers the latest version of every type of workout equipment you can imagine. You get so much value and an upscale gym for an incredible price! Dont forget to grab a delicious smoothie from their smoothie bar!

This is a brand new gym with tons of equipment so youre never waiting to get on a machine. Staff is really friendly and keeps the place very clean. Also great to be able to use any of the retro fitness locations. Cant beat what you get for the price.

This is the best gym in Hoboken! Everything is brand new and the staff is great. It is amazing that they offer great equipment, the ability to work out at all of the Retros, tanning, personal training, juice bar, etc!

The staff is pretty cool.. The gym is clean... I signed up in May and so far, its cool.. The Spin Class by Derrill is pretty cool. Its always packed so try to come early. Try the Body Bootcamp with Dana.

Best gym for the price in Hoboken! Besides the great classes, equipment, and smoothies, they have a wellness center to take care of all your chiropractic and physical therapy needs. Love it!
