I drive from Sunset Park to swim in this lap pool. There is $5 parking next door and its worth it. They have a play pool for classes and kids, and a lap pool for lap swimming which is almost always open, so I often get the whole lane (or even the whole pool!) to myself. The other swimmers are very slow compared to most New York pools (no offense to them, its just not a triathlete paradise), so I am usually the fastest swimmer, and I swim very slowly myself - I was almost the slowest person on my old NYC masters team and I swim in the slow medium late at the Prospect Y. I have not had trouble splitting the lane or getting my own lane, and only had to circle swim once for about five minutes in the past year and a half. The gym area itself is large, sunlit, clean and uncrowded; a nice place to work out. There are beautiful rooms with mirrors and wood floors for yoga and classes. It seems most of the people there are either young up and coming Coney Island natives in glamorous new neon sneakers, or old grannies who speak to each other in their mother tongue (mostly Chinese or Russian languages, to my ears), but there are some middle aged Brooklynites there like myself. Everyone seems nice, you dont catch attitude there from your co-members. I hear there are children on the weekends. As far as the facilities and staff are concerned, they are very new and friendly, however, they are still getting the kinks worked out so you will often encounter problems such as, no shelves in the shower, no female janitor so floors not mopped in womens locker room today, zumba teacher is late to class, pool not heated today, lifeguards dont know how to manage swim lane fights, etc. No Towels. Compared to the prospect YMCA this place is an emerald palace of calm, and the beach is just a block away. Enjoy!

This Saturday me and my family signed for the YMCA membership at Coney Island location. It was our first day and we came to enjoy the pool. Unfortunately our experience was completely ruined by really unprofessional and disrespectful attitude of staff. We were basically kicked out with a kids in a middle of swimming without any reasons that make sense, but just because we wasnt provided with session tickets. They were keep telling about half an hour before session arrival, and basically we got half an hour before the family swimming session. Signed our membership(which took a piece of time too). We went to swim and half an hour after being in the water we were told to get out and get a ticket for a session. It took another half an hour going back and forth between front desk and safe guard, and the only thing was obvious its impossible to enjoy swimming at ymca. The family pool capacity is about 66 people. The ratio for one safeguard is 25. It was only total 20 people in the pool. Three safeguards around and just NO tickets to let people in on a "busy" Saturday day as I was explained. The only solution I was offered is " to cancel my membership right away". It was keep repeated to me in very disrespectful attitude in front of my kids that really looked forward to enjoy swimming. After just one hour at YMCA the only idea I got is that YMCA has NO VALUE for its customers. Moreover when I changed my clothes and came back to front desk, to put suggested solution of canceling membership to work, it was again some weird explanation provided, that they cant do it right now and I need to come back on Monday. To waste more of my time and face again this attitude of customer service. This facility obviously overloaded having 20 people in a pool on weekend.

From 3 YMCAs in 3 different parts of country i ever visited this was my worse experience. The least freiendly place of all. Went with family for 1 day pass. After our IDs copies were done and form was filled we were told to wait. Half an hour + later receptionist told us -"OK, I put your data in the system, you could go". There was no other forms to sign, no pictures to be taken, no physical tickets to be printed. We were sitting and waiting for data to be put into the system. If she had other work to do - she could ask other girls to do it or let us in and do it later - neither was done. And then -"you can go" - she did not even try to give us a list of what they have and what times pool open to public or groups, nothing. So we turned and walked away. Could not tell whats going inside - they may be a really nice place there, I was not given an opportunity to find.

Very sloppy operations in this location. We went there an hour early to make sure we can get into the family pool. 30 minutes before the schedule, we were told the family pool capacity was full. If we want, we can wait for the next schedule which was 1 and a half hour later. We waited and guess what? We were not able to get into the pool. The manager repeatly told everyone not to line up for the pool until 30 minutes before but people did not listen. Overall the way they do ticketing system is just a disaster. There were no order and people that waited for an hour and a half ahead of time were not able to get in. So why bother paying them for facility that you cannot use!

The people who work here are excellent and always friendly. In turn, the people who frequent the gym are also very friendly and nice. The equipment is frequently maintained and updated. I love the sauna, showers & locker room are clean & spacious, the child watch services are great if you have a kid, and theres a plethora of other activities for your kiddos too. The pool has a small water slide that the kids get a kick out of.

Just two showers in the family locker room. No bathroom. Sauna in women s locker berlyn warm. Always croud. Waterrunner in shower have to be pressed every 10 sec. It is almost imposible to get into family swiming, and even harder to get an family changing room. I am not getting my memberships worth. The only good thing is the "warm" water in the family pool. EPIC FAIL. :-(

Relatively new equipment, good variety of the machines - no lines to get on. Quite spacious gymnasium. Women locker rooms lack cleaning - never saw any cleaning staff there. Sauna is always cold - shy grandmas change to their bathing suites there. Not enough showers. Reception staff is too laid back and most of the time ignoring the regulars.

Ive never been to a gym where the staff is as awesome as they are. From the moment you walk in youre greeted with a smile, gym is clean, never have to wait for a machine, pool is awesome, and the members actually put the weights back in the right places. Amazing.

Overall the experience is very good. Only issue I would say I have is heading to the gym area and there are 5 people to a machine with no care in the world. Other than that great place to work out, bring the kids and enjoy being healthy or getting there.
