When I signed up with work out world I paid $100+ in order to have a reoccurring payment of $32 per month. When I realized I was overpaying quite a bit (after one year) I asked to change my monthly rate to $10 per month as advertised on billboards and other outrageous LOCAL billboard marketing campaigns for this particular franchise location. When I asked to begin paying the "Basic" package of $10 as explained on billboards, they explained I had to pay another $100 in order to have the reoccurring payment of $10 because it was a different package then I signed up with. I explained if I had this "basic" package option from the beginning, I would have purchased that versus this VIP package I am stuck with. They said there was no such "Basic" package one year ago, that it has begun very recently. I explained I do not use the "day care" hence no children, do not use the classes offered and do not go to any other locations. I asked the customer service office to make an exception as well as the owner of the business. ALSO 10% of the machines here are ALWAYS being fixed which means you cannot use them. I will be going to retro fitness since work out world has screwed up their customer base and will not help transition their old customer base to a fair rate their NEW customer base is entitled to.

My wife and I have been members at WOW Middletown NJ off and on since 2004, and they still have a lot of the same equipment. They charge a yearly fee of about $50 for new equipment and upkeep, but they rarely get anything new or make any improvements to the gym, including the locker room. The equipment, facilities and locker rooms are not clean. BROKEN equipment is rarely fixed in a timely manner and I noticed a lot of safety issues. Despite reporting these issues, they were not adequately addressed. There is no pool or other amenities that warrant what they charge, which is the same or more than newer, larger fitness clubs. Keep in mind their basic membership does not allow you to attend classes or share privileges with other WOW locations. Worst of all is the HORRIBLE customer service. It is very difficult to get any matters resolved, including cancelation. They do not listen to any concerns and are not flexible or understanding. Its apparent that it is all about sales in every aspect, including personal trainers, while WOW spends as little as possible to reinvest in the club and provide more value for its members. There are several complaints about this club on the BBB website. We are officially done with this club and would not recommend it to anyone.

I joined WoW several years ago. Despite an issue with one of their personal trainers in my 1st month of membership (wasnt interested in this option but they offered a free w/o session when I joined. The trainer cancelled twice so I gave up) Ive always liked coming to this gym. If a machine goes down, its never for long. The equipment is up-to-date and its well maintained. Unfortunately, I cancelled this week. After returning for my first workout after surgery, I find the cardio theater room gone! I dont take classes, I dont do free weights. While Im sure they had a good reason for eliminating it, with other gym options out there, the main reason I stayed with WoW was knowing I could walk in, jump on a machine in the theater room where it was cool, quiet and free of distractions. Ill be looking elsewhere now. Very disappointed.

Agree that Middletown is the armpit. Wipe down towels, tissues, ear cleaners lay on the ground for many days. The bin in the TRX area has never been cleaned in 3 years. There are hairs all over the floors. The new equipment and revamp took 5 months. The old equipment is better. I lost 4 machines from my workout. No variation in new equipment and nobody uses the huge AstroTurf section. The staff are not managed. The music is at club level. They lie if you try to get them to turn it down. Equipment is never put away - mats, balls, weights are all over the place or missing. I placed great trust in the renovations. I am out of here after 3 years.

I signed up for a yearly contract. Before I had to go away to school I made sure to let them know to cancel my membership since the contract expired. They told me it is taken care of. After I came back from school (my parents payed my gym bill) I realized that they had been charging me for over 4 month!!!!! I went there to address the issue - and they told me to contact the customer service. I find it funny how I was being charged for all these months and my gym card wasnt working ....... Customer service was not helpful at all. I never got my money back. So unprofessional, they really take advantage of the customers. NEVER AGAIN.

Management is pathetic. ..that is if they existed. Questionable billing practices at best with zero conflict resolution. Dont give these people a dime. Flagrant disregard for members is evident by the general attitude of the trainers engaging in dangerous conduct. Members if the opposite sex will clean the locker rooms while in use. Broken equipment takes weeks to fix. Its almost as if they are proud of the reputation they have cultivated between the 8 million dollar settlement or hundreds of complaints online. Just research them

The only way to block them from charging your debit and credit card automatically after you have formally cancelled your membership is to: 1. Debit card- call bank and cancel the old debit and and bank will furnish a new debit card with new account numbers. Make sure you inform other agencies (not WOW) that you have a new acct number that you do direct auto payment with. This way WOW will not deduct monthly fees anymore. 2. Credit Card- inform credit card company to block WOW or have a new card issued. This worked.

I dont understand why the ratings for WOW Middletown are so bad. Ive never had billing issues with them, equipment breaks no matter what gym you go too, and I always see one person at the gym whenever Im there walking around either vaccuming or wiping equipment down. I love the classes they offer and the babysitting they offer. The xlab classes have helped me get in better shape and I always see people utilizing the new areas they have designed.

The armpit of the chain. Over the last few years they have only taken away key features and equipment culminating with the latest. They removed key leg equipment in favor of an AstroTurf Crossfit area that is ill equipped. Shake bar gone. And they expect that we will pay the same for less. Awful. I now go to the far superior Powerhouse in Old Bridge. Its worth the drive. Retro fitness is far superior.

In order to cancel your membership, you have to send them a registered letter, which means physically going to the post office and standing in line. This policy is of course designed such that you dont want to bother with it, which should give you an idea as to how they run their business.

I Love WOW gym. All the instructors are good but Meredith McGee is the "BEST INSTRUCTOR" THERE... SHES FUNNY, SHES KIND, and has a nice personality. She takes time out to help and show you how its done. I look.forward to take her classes.
