I was a loyal patron of the Montclair NYSC for over two years, and generally valued the teachers, classes and environment during my time there. Unfortunately, when I moved out of state in January 2017 and attempted to cancel my membership, I uncovered a management culture with complete disregard for customer service. Initially, I attempted to call to cancel my membership, but was given a series of misinformations about how and when to go about it. When I attempted to follow up, I was repeatedly told by desk staff that they would have a manager return my call. I did not receive a single phone call. Finally, I was told I needed to provide written correspondence via email, directed to the manager, James Delaunay. It was only after I discovered that I had yet again been charged for my membership that I realized my request had once again been ignored. Again, I picked up the phone. This time, I spoke with an associate who requested I forward my email to her, and she would follow up with the elusive Mr. Delaunay. Upon doing so I received a reply stating that I had used an incorrect email address and that I "should have contacted us upon receiving an error message for incorrect email address." There was no error message, which was evidenced by the original thread. In fact I attempted to send a test email to the original address to prove my point, and yet again did not receive an error message. Ultimately, I have been forced to deal with this via my bank and the Better Business Bureau, since I never was able to speak to the manager. The goal of customer service is to help retain clients and preserve the reputation of the company when problems arise--I should know; Im a business owner and Id be out of business if I treated my customers this way. Its unfortunate that the NYSC management lacks both the insight and integrity to assume reasonable responsibility when appropriate. If youre considering joining the Montclair NYSC, I would urge you to take your business elsewhere...I hear theres a great new LA Fitness.

I just Would like To Share My Experience With Nysc..... Starting From Beginning To End....... Intially A Great Overview Well put Together Staff Etc.... Clean Equipment. ...... Clean Bathroom... Very Welcoming Place. But Customer Service At the Front Desk is Horrid There Seems to be Alot of Phone Taging Going On And Transfers To an Unknown Gm Whom I Failed To Meet.Nevertheless I call in Today to Cancel a Month to Month Pay as you Go Pro rated Membership And You Think it Would be as Simple a Pie? Think again I Spoke With A Guy By The Name of Chris Who Claimed to be a Sales Rep on the Floor at t b is Time And he Obviously Didnt know What was Going on He Couldnt even tell me What Was the Prorate of My Membership, Cancelation fee that I was Never Aware of Anything....... Smh So I asked to Speak to a Manager Reguarding This Matter And a young Lady By Franchaste Would Hang up Continously..... So Finally Someone Answers After the Tenth Call And Told Me Ill be Receiving a Call back And its been 5 days Now But yet I still Get Charged on my Card Smh..... Terrible Experience With Customer Realtions Here Be Aware of the Hidden Fees!!!!!!!!!

The facility is not bad but their customer service staff are quite manipulative and unhelpful. I wanted to try the club before committing to a membership so I tried to get a 30-day pass to the Montclair NYSC. However, their membership representative Ryan refused to accept my 30-day coupon (which I got from the nysc website) saying that it was for new members only and since I had gone to the club on a free exercise day I couldnt use the 30-day pass. He also accused me of giving him an incorrect phone number, which was a lie on his part. I found the customer service staff were aggressive in selling memberships in general and were unwilling or unable to meet customers halfway in terms of negotiating terms. I will certainly not be returning to this club.

Ive been happy using the Montclair Sports Club location for most of the past 2 1/2 years. However the place has become so busy that I often cant use the equipment I want to use. If I do use it and walk away for a couple minutes someone else jumps on. Yet the club keeps offering more promotions- $20/month rates, a rebate for referring people, free parking. So looks like things will only get worse.

I love this club simply for the parking hard to park in Montclair but this gym gives you a couple of hours to park in the parking deck I also check in to Bayonne location but once had billing issues and Montclair manager kindly sat down with me and was more than Helpful this one is definitely more neater and greeted with friendly professional staff.

New York Sports Clubs in Manhattan tend toward the unpleasant - but this one is the exact opposite. I love going here. Its clean, the staff is reasonably pleasant, and Ive never seen it even the least bit crowded. Theyve got everything I need and theyre incredibly affordable. Just consider the pricing options carefully, on your own.

I wrote a review yesterday tearing Town Sports International apart for their poor management of their clubs and the post was taken down. Please contact their CEO - Robert Giardina or COO Daniel Gallagher to let them know how atrocious the customer service is. This is public information. Just look up Town Sports International.

This gym is a dungeon. No natural light and low ceilings. It was very tough to get use to. Like most gyms, I signed up due to location. I will say that the locker rooms stay relatively clean and the huge benefit is they have a Sauna which I am a sucker for. There are enough machines to get your basic work done.

This club doesnt care about the client money is the only motivation. They have one Great Zumba instruction and move her class cause they dont want visitors to experience her for free on Wednesdays. Calling corporate does nothing because they dont care either.

The equipment is eh. Layout is kinda weird. Atmosphere is kinda weird, low energy. Lots of guys that think they know what theyre doing but dont. Mostly people casually reading newspapers or on their phones while on the equipment or lazily doing cardio

They recently renovated it, and its definitely an improvement, but its always crowded no matter what time you go. If you want to use a squat rack youre going to be waiting awhile before one opens up.

These guys are the priciest in town, I got tired of seeing walls when I exercise and put my membership on hold, so that I can do my cardio in parks while the weather allows it.

Front desk staff allowed to eat smelly dinners at counter, evening clients greeted with pungent smell as manager sits in office allowing such unsanitary behavior.. Boo you.

Its a smaller gym and theres no direct parking, but the staff is very friendly. The gym is also clean and doesnt seem to get crowded.

Great suburban club. Could use more free weights. Clean locker rooms. Gets crowded at peak times.
