It has the worst internet in any place I have been around the world. They are cheap. For two years I have been begging to have an additional router put in so past that all the area past the water fountains allows you to use your phone. Anywhere past the trailer desk and streaming music doesnt work. Its only 159 dollars for an additional router to connect original router and I spend b/w 150 and 200 a month at the club.....clothes, shakes etc. Bottom line is not everyone wants to hear the very loud hip hop thats played and have a choice of their own music with headphones. Even with headphones the music is so loud its like a disco tech and you are hearing two songs at once. I am close to going to LA Fitness a superior club but a bit further away for me. I would suggest to go to LA fitness if the difference in distance is not a significant factor for you. This place is not run properly and an owner cant run a small shop like that from south western NJ. He simply doesnt care. JV

This Retro Fitness is absolutely money hungry! I signed up last January for the membership that included classes, being that my schedule is too chaotic I was never able to attend one class. I asked if I was able to drop down to the regular 20 dollar a month membership instead of the 32 dollars because it just didnt seem like the right fit for me and they said no. I tried to explain my situation being that I never attended a single class but even the managers were rude and dissmissive about it. If I could I would cancel my entire membership! The staff is unaccommodating and they only care about their money. They will also charge you random fees such as a 42.00 "annual fee" in August, even if you have not been there a year without notification. It is small, crowded and always has this unappealing smell, if I were them I would be thankful and accommodating to their paying customers in hopes of referrals. Maybe I shouldve waited for the LA Fitness right down the block instead.

I was preparing for war over being charged the $40 annual fee despite my wish to cancel my membership, but Mario (the manager) and his staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Once I explained that I would be moving for work, he was quick to offer ways to remedy my situation. In the end, the fee was impossible to wave, but he was able to submit my cancellation (60 days required FYI) and give me the next 2 months free - in effect we broke even. Normally reviews do nothing but bemoan a bad experience, but I wanted to take the opportunity to do the opposite. Just goes to show how a positive attitude and a willingness to actually help goes a long way in a service industry. To anyone looking to join a gym in this area, I would recommend the W. Orange location of Retro. Just make sure to read the fine print on your contract because Retro corporate is a bit sheisty and there is only so much Mario can do!

I have always hated going to the gym because I always feel like Im being stared at or judged in some type of way, so I would never go. But after a few of my friends recommended Retro to me, I decided Id try it out and being there changed my life. Everyone there is genuinely friendly and accepting and not only is it a comfortable and safe environment, but the people there support you. One of the girls that worked there named Selena was the most supportive. Every time I come to work out, she would always ask me how my day is going and eventually the two of us became good friends and to this day I thank her and the rest of the staff and people there for making me feel better about myself and motivating me from the minute I walk in until the minute I leave. The cost is another perk as well, very inexpensive and useful at the same time! Good equipment, good people, and a life changing experience.

This place is like a Macdonalds on steroids and by that I mean from the color schemes to the way they treat their members. They treat every member like a number because all they want from you is your money. The get want to get your money by selling their crappy membership and distasteful so called "Retro blends" which are packed with loads of sugar and artificial flavors. The stuff even taste artificial, their is nothing natural about this stuff but this is the stuff they want you to consume. I mean they have to compensate somehow their $19.99 a month membership that they are selling. My first time there, one of the manager name Manny told me that the color scheme, red, yellow and black is a business strategy to get people to crave food and want to eat. Really? In other words, its fast food restaurant disguised as a gym. This place sucks!

Gym is great BUT I as NOT at all please with the child care services. When I went into the child sitting area, the girl running the child care was sitting in a chair at the corner and when I first came in and saw her there, I wasnt even sure who she was until I realized she was the only other adult in the room, so she must be the sitter. She did NOT introduce herself to me or my son (I STILL have no clue what her name was) and she did not say much. When I came back to the room to pick my son up, there were more kids in the room, yet she was still sitting in the corner as she was 45 minutes earlier, with her purse next to her, and her phone in front of her. PLEASE, make improvements in the child care services because I will never again take my son there and have him sit in a room with someone so disengaged and, frankly, unprofessional.

This gym is not conveinent what so ever, it is not a true 24hour gym. Its not right that if you are dissatisfied with the gym, you are locked in. The location is not conveinent to where I live. There nearest on is Kenilworth, and thats just as bad. Sometimes its a hit and miss with the cleanliness, and the front desk staff 90% of them are rude on the phone. If you dont like your job, why be there? Its hard to get a manager who is empathic to your needs as a member. I swear they just give out manager positions. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE ETHIC. Personal training pricing is too high, when I first heard the price... I laughed. This gym has made me appreciate Planet and Blink fitness alot more. And I will be returning there, once this terrible membership is over. Oh and this gym is not conveinent for someone who works overnight.

Out of all the retros I have been to, this is by far the best one. Its ALWAYS clean, the staff is very friendly, and the gym itself has a very welcoming vibe. The manager is so great and always attentive. The main staff are always on point. By main staff, I mean the ones that are there at least 4 days a week. Sometimes when I go in I see staff members that are either new or dont work there as often, they arent that great. But the people that are always there, you can clearly see their dedication to keeping up with the gym. The trainers are all very friendly and pleasant as well. Ive been going to this gym from three years. I moved and take a 15/20 minute trip as oppose to a 5 minute trip just to go to this specific retro. West Orange retro is the best one in northern NJ.
