I have been a member for about 6 weeks now. While I do like that it is not crowded when I use the gym. As a business person, I ask myself how do they make money, with such low attendance? Maybe like most gym memberships, many people join, but they dont consistently use the facilities, they pay to use. The locker room facility is in a state of disrepair. Many lockers dont close properly. My big complaint is not with Zapp Athletics, but with other members. I have seen members leave their personal things on the benches in the locker room, while they are working out. This is done as if it is their personal space, with out regard for other members. I am always tempted when I see this, to place their things in an empty locker. Let them learn that its disrespectful to others, to leave things on the benches, when other want to use them, with out others things cluttering the space up. I have seen other members spit gum into the water fountain. I have seen things being left in the sauna to dry. Paper towels on the floor.Wet clothing items left behind in the lockers. People who do things like this, obviously have had a very poor upbringing. Put bluntly, they are swines! I would appreciate the management staying on top of things like this, and reminding people in the locker room, that they are not at home, and to be respectful of other patrons. Not likely to happen! Most people are disgusting!

Another great example of a franchisee novice who knew nothing about business OR money and got in way over their head and have been slowly dying for over two years. They got behind in the labor-intense upkeep of the physical plant of the business. Pools and hot tubs are very expensive to maintain and thats why so few facilities splurge on that amenity. It sucks that their family duty and obligation has turned into a white elephant. HEY its New Jersey, there are gyms closer to your house. Convenience is half the battle in finding a gym that you like. Equipment and classes will come and go over the years, but its location, location, location, capisce? Jersey is so muscle-heavy when it comes to sports, fitness, figure and bodybuilding novices and pros, that I bet you can find a private gym with the type of clientele youd like to be around. Other than California, if I had to prep for my next contest away from home, then Id find a good gym in New Jersey, just not the one portrayed on "Turnaround King" in the "Golds Gym Pump-Up" episode on the National Geographic channel.

Simply put, this is the worst gym I have ever been to! Although the gym has a friendly front desk staff, good open hours, a pool, old school atmosphere, and is fairly empty when I workout in the mornings, the cons outweigh the advantages. For one, the staff has no regards in keeping this gym clean. I dont pay a gym membership to put weights away! Your cute little Please put your weights away signs obviously dont work, so instead of being on your cell phones, why dont you monitor your members and rack the weights if they dont. Additionally, the floor by the dumbbell rack is completely trashed and uneven. This gym also has no regards for safety; bent barbells havent been replaced since I joined over 8 months ago on top of broken equipment that has yet to be fixed. Also, this is the only gym I have seen have different brand/diameter 45lb plates. Still thinking of joining, just go check the mens locker room. It feels like showering in a prison; mildew and flies smashed against the walls...

Unbelievable! Darn right criminal! Management response to nothing, not notes, notices, telephone calls nor e mails. They charged my credit card for so called enhancement fees when my agreement specifically stated they could not do so. I have been chasing them on this for months. Now that I am not a member, they have charged mentor an additional two months while my agreement stated an expiration date and was nonrenewable and I had provided both hand delivered written notice and mailed notice. I am now chasing them with in person visits to try to get my money returned to me. Of course, they promise resolution and returned telephone calls but of course nothing. These were just the billing problems. The showers are filthy with flies buzzing around and the toilets rarely worked at least in the mens room. Horrible experience.

I have been a member of Golds Gym for over a year now. I left Whippany and went to Hackettstown. 6 months later I came back to Whippany even though Hackettstown was closer to me. I came back to Whippany because the staff are friendlier. They are always available to assist you at anytime. The other Gold Gym never gave me a tour, told me about their classes or personal training. I have been training at Whippany for over 10 months and I have seen results. The trainers are knowledgable and attend to your goals and needs. They have a wide range of classes for different levels and intensity. Overall I am very satisfied with the gym, my trainer and staff!

I recently switched from LA Fitness to Golds Gym and am very happy with the change. I dont feel like Im being judged and watched and its a down-to-earth place. It may not be in the best condition with the most high-tech equipment but I like the simplicity. There is one specific trainer that approached my my first week because he didnt recognize me. He introduced himself, asked me about my goals and myself and asked me to go to one of his classes. He remembered me when I went to the class and it was a great workout. However, he is the only friendly employee at the facility. The rest pretty much ignore you.

2 employees told me I was able to cancel my membership at anytime. Upon canceling I was still charged the next month and told that my contract stated I needed to give 30 day notice. If I was told this from the start I would have given 30 days notice. Was straight up accused of lying about the employees telling me this. My mistake for not reading the contract and trusting their employees word. Based on previous reviews you can expect a rebuttal refuting my truthful statements. Golds can keep my $30 if they need it that bad and hopefully use it to replace the ducktape handles on their paper towel dispensers...

Joined this gym after I left the JCC in West Orange. I was unhappy with my experience in West Orange and I was looking to get a fresh start. I wasnt sure what to expect at this place, Golds Gym has a reputation for rendering meat heads and weight droppers. I was treated with respect when I entered the building and was guided down the right path to achieve my goals. I hired a trainer - I meet with him every morning at 7:00 am. I am losing my love handles and gaining back my self confidence. I am very happy with my results and look forward to even further progress.

This gym only gets a star for the location, thats about it. Very unprofessional staff. The trainers just stare at the females on the cardio machines. The machines are very outdated and not many available. The locker rooms are usually dirty and the showers have mold on it. Often times there was no paper to use. When I signed up they said it was a month to month contract but when I tried to cancel they wouldnt let me. I had to dispute it with the cc company. They also charged me to renovated the place... A bogus fee. Horrible management style.
