I wish I could give 0 stars but the yelp system is still flawed, but I digress. I joined this gym about a month ago, really excited to find a kickboxing gym in The Bronx and help support my local community. When I initially signed up, I was met by a very friendly coach, who explained to me the program, and even though I wouldnt be able to take any kickboxing classes in the first two weeks (the classes I expressed initial interest in), the classes would be available to me after two weeks. Thinking this was just a precaution to make sure you were conditioned for more intense classes, I felt it was nice that the gym took time to make sure you were prepared for other classes and I signed up. Fast forward to two week laters to the same friendly coach telling me if id like to take the classes I was told would be available, that Ill have to pay an additional cost. Why was this not explained to me when I initially signed up? All I was told was about the payment options, I was not told for the other classes to be accessible I would have to sign up for another program all together. I also wasnt told that in order to take these classes there would be an additional fee. They deliberately waited to lock me into a contract to tell me that there would be more fees. That way when I canceled they would still get more money from me. When I talked to the manager and owner, they all said it was my fault due to my assumptions even though none of this was explained. Its sad that they were more than willing to work with me when I signed up and took my money, but after there were complications due to no communication on their part about additional fees, they werent as friendly or willing to help. The manager even asked "can you not afford it or do you just not want to pay?". Wow. Im very happy I will no longer be attending this gym. Even though Ill have to pay another $149 to break my contract, at least I wont have to be swindled out of more money in the future. So the $149 is actually an investment on my end. Save your money and look for a gym that is up front about their cost and has the same moral and ethical customer service they claim their gym was founded on.

Your review - Jan 27, 2012 - change nickname When I went to jg I spoke for a while with the instructors, while the facility is amazing for the Bronx I didnt see the reason in the pricing. You could find way better quality instructors for any gym in manhattan for lower prices. The location is amazing if youre in the area but that doesnt meret its pricing. I was told at the time registration fee was like 300$+ I dont recall the exact price. When I asked what that fee was for they didnt have an answer for me. Did you get any gear with that " registration " fee? Nope... So Im just handing you money. Now I have been training for many years and every dojo/gym with a registration fee covered the first month and you would get some kind of gear being gi, gloves etc etc. hell I have even been given an international ID card and registered on their database plus was able to train in Japan with that card. While the instructor I spoke with was respectful I felt the gym was after money more than anything. Im sure theres some great fighters with experience there but fighting and teaching are two very different things. I didnt see anything that metered that registration fee or the monthly cost. While my financial situations if more than ok I wouldnt pay that money when I could find two gyms for that price. Hell maybe 3 if I added planet fitness to my schedule.

I walked through the doors of the Jungle Gym 6 years ago as 46 year old beer drinking cigarette smoking 210lb former Marine thinking that I knew how to fight. I just want to enhance my skills I said to myself. I encountered a 135lb male and quickly thought how I would demolish this guy. I quickly found out about respecting reality. The most satisfying thing about the Jungle Gym is that I learned about myself. I found out quickly that reality will put you in the place that you properly belong. It was a very humbling experience and one that was necessary for my own growth. I continue to grow as a human being through all the mindset conversations with this incredible Tribe. Today as a 51 year old father of two boys, not only am I in the best shape of my adult life but the mental strength that the calculated pressure of the training provides has proven to be most valuable not only at the gym but in life in general. I no longer smoke cigarettes or drink beer and although I have a long road ahead in learning to fight, this 180lb 51 year old me will demolish the 46 year old me without question. The Jungle Gym is one of the best investments that I’ve made in my life. Come join us, find out about yourself and learn to be a better you. Hope To See You On The Mats! (JG4L!)

I originally took my son to the Jungle Gym because I needed something to help him concentrate. The concentration skills are just the beginning of what we received. I was concerned about the amount of attention he would receive, but on average there are four coaches on the mat. The coaches are friendly and patient. While learning new maneuvers, my child was matched with more experienced students. They helped him slowly become better and made him feel comfortable. With all the negativity our children are exposed to in the inner city, I am grateful to have found a place full of respectful students and committed coaches. I was surprised to find out that the Gym assigns homework. The “Life Skills” are helping my son become a bit more responsible. I have been trying to get him to pick up his clothes and put his dish in the sink for months. Now that he knows it is a part of his homework, and he won’t get his stripe, it is done without asking. My son now exercises on his own, works toward earning his grey belt, and plans to return to school using the life skills learned in the Gym. Raising a child requires the positive influence of many. Joining the Jungle Gym will be a beneficial addition to your child’s life. Aaron C. Padgett Sr.

PURE TRASH! SCAM ARTIST! forget about 47 days free. they wont even bring it up. all they want is the money and they are very pricey. one of the options is almost a $2000 payment! i called to try a jiu jitsu class out, and they said be here at 6:30 at the jungle scam gym. so check this out, they put me with the mma class, which lasted a half hour(really a half hour?) and i arrived at the 4th quarter of the training session(i was on time) so basically they invited me to come to the end of the class!. cmon you guys couldnt give me a full trial? i understand nothing is free but DONT BE A SCAM ARTIST!!! for crying out loud i was told to stand in a small area and dont touch nothing! thats not how you treat a client. Nobody said a word to me(another red flag), any other gym i been to people are social and they say hi. in conclusion i left that gym with the knowledge of seeing the darkside of the martial arts training world. 2 STARS jungle gym overall. 5 stars for scamming. 5 stars for wasting my time. OH AND JUNGLE GYM! REMOVE THE 47 DAYS FREE ADD OFF! THERES NO SUCH THING.
