This is my factual life story.
I am a woman over 40 years of age. Many years ago i came to the USA from a country where women who practice are not mainly supported for lack of better words.
After being through a lot with marriage ,having children and conflict of culture,i realize my health was spiraling.Being reluctant to be a member after months and months of passing by the Y.I finally decided few years ago to be join the Y in order to

Its " special " alright....The facility is very nice but I just wish the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA Aquatic Director and Lifeguards would be instructed on how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. I have to waste my limited workout time to ask, and wait for, the Lifeguards to put up lane lines for lap swim ( you shouldnt have to be asked to do your job, if you cant remember when lap swim starts check the posted sched. ), pool is suppose to be kept at 83 degrees but the lifeguards on duty often forget to check the temp. and let it climb to above 90 degrees( makes a mile swim as pleasant as a marathon run in a heatwave ), and the lifeguards blast their stereo while you are trying to have a relaxing swim. There is enough noise pollution in NYC I dont appreciate being subjected to it while Im paying to take laps, its lap swim not your bedroom, save your ipod and boom box for the aqua aerobic classes please.

A great value, as this is the only major gym in the rapidly developing bed-stuy/clinton hill area. I have a few gripes however: - The staff can sometimes be indifferent or just plain rude. For example, I recently brought my friend to workout with me, with a guest pass. The person at the front desk demanded to see the ID of my friend, even though I had both my pass and ID. When my friend informed them that he left his ID at home, the staff-member rudely said "well come back another time." - The internet is spotty, and no one seems to know why. - Some of the machines are poorly maintained. - The hours leave me wanting. Closing at 8pm on Saturday and Sunday, in particular. Given the recent rate increase (50 dollars per month) expanding some of the hours would seem to be in order

I dont usually write reviews, but I love this gym. The instructors for the classes are well informed and excited. The machines are clean, and the staff is friendly. Marguerite is an amazing spin class instructor (probably the best gym class Ive been to, ever). My only issue is that there is not enough room to stretch, and do sit ups, push ups, etc. after your workout. I would love a room dedicated to just that.

Nice facility! The way the weight training equip is stationed it really inspires me to put in a FULL body work out each time I visit. The only thing that I would say is bad is that they never answer the phone when I call for information...but other than that its a great place to work out for cheap and you can watch TV as you get in shape on each individual cardio machine! Its great!

Located in historic Bedford Stuyvesant the new YMCA is an excellent facility filled with the latest equipment , and amenities . Much more than a gym this community " Gem " has an extraordinary staff that will treat you like family , and make each visit a pleasant one . Conveniently located by public transportation and a short trip by car from many areas of Brooklyn .

The Bedstuy YMCA does wonders for the community. Very professional staff. Great place to get your workout in and meet new people. Even better community for kids for afterschool and summer programs. I dont live in Bed-stuy anymore but this was my go to gym while I was their. The gym is clean, more than enough workout equipment, clean pool, sauna, the works.

I love this place for working out and swimming. Its near my apartment and has a swimming pool. Its just like your other typical NYC gyms, offers classes, has equipment, and a basketball court that doubles as a volleyball court. There is also an indoor track. For only 47 dollars a month, this is an great deal if you live in the area. blasianFMA

We love our local YMCA. The faculty is informative and they provide a clean, safe environment. Our daughter has swum here over 4 years. She has also attended various other programs including Holiday camp and summer camp. Our family looks forward to a continued success of our local Y into the coming year (2017).

Doesnt let teenagers in after 6pm even though they have to pay $134 a year for membership. Also its suppose to be a non-profit organization yet they charge teenagers to use the gym. Where they mention that their money goes for kids in the neighborhood and for their programs. They need to fix this.

One of the best YMCAs Ive ever been to. Great staff... Clean... Great equipment... And does a lot for the community. This place can get JAM PACKED at night so if you use weights or cardio machines, be mindful. Great pool too, nice basketball court, small track... Worth every penny

Love the weightroom! A great value and I know my money helps support programs for kids in my neighborhood. My only grips are it is too small and can get crowded at time (what good gym isnt I suppose), need more 25-45 pound dumbells, and I wish there was room for another smith machine.

I love this YMCA. I have been a member since my son was 2 years old and taking swimming lessons there. Before the "gentification" of Bed Stuy. The staff is wonderful. Its great to see that some of the same staff are still there being helpful and kind. Keep up the good work Bed Stuy Y.

I grew up here and have many fond memories of bed sty. I have not been home in over 30 years but there is no place like home. Be home as soon as I get some new wells. Must see how the place has changed and would like to see some old friends. Especially a woman named Sonja Coleman.

The fact that adults cant swim all day is a problem..and then when u dont have share lanes. They have too many kid programs. They basically cater to kids..even when theres adult swim u still have to share lanes. And the lifeguard staff isnt that friendly at all

I have grown up in Bed-Stuy and have been with the Y for over 20 years. It is a great institution for the community and even better gym. I love the vibe, weight room, cardio room and basketball court.
