Short story: This was the worst experience I have EVER had in a hair salon. It was painful and upsetting and left my hair permanently damaged with a ridiculous finished product. I would never wish this kind of service on someone and hope that you will read this review and put May’s Hair Salon on your black list. Long story: I go in for a wash and style. The wash is painful and a little bit gross as she rubs shampoo and conditioner into the skin of my neck, but it’s over rather quickly. Now, I have coarse, somewhat unruly hair but want a nice sleek ‘do with some large curls. My “stylist” does not prep my hair with any product but instead throws two blowdryers into one fist, turns them on the highest setting and presses the tips into my hair as he starts “brushing” my hair with a round boar-bristle brush ( a no-no on coarse hair like mine), being sure to be so rough that I look as though I am head banging in slow motion for at least 15 minutes. He works so fast and so harshly that he frequently stabs me in the eyes and ears without noticing. He also burns my scalp several times. The heat was so high on the dryers that my head is in a cloud of steam for a good portion of this torture. When the steam finally subsides, a wavy haze starts rising from my hair much like it does off of asphalt in the desert. It is about this point I begin to actually smell my hair burning. My Midwestern manners are strained to the limits and it takes every muscle in my body not to lash out physically, let alone verbally on this guy. It is about this point I decide that for the first time in my life, I am not going to tip my stylist. I feel guilty until he continues…He is now ready to curl my hair. My eyes dart back and forth looking for anything resembling a curler or curling iron. Alas, long story short, he uses 8 boar-bristle brushes to “curl” my hair, wrapping the hair around them and leaving them hanging off my head. Please feel free to get a visual here. When it is time to unravel my hair from the brushes, he simply pulls straight down on the brush. At one point a decent piece of hair (20-30 strands) gets tangled in the tip of the brush. Instead of taking the time to untangle the hairs he RIPS them…in half. At this point I’m almost in tears but I let him finish. The only product he ends up using on my hair the entire time is hair spray and I am left looking like a Disney princess with tight curls at the ends of my hair and poofy debutant roots. I pay him his 16 dollars, which is about 30 dollars more than his service is worth and as I turn to leave he shouts after me, “You no rember tip.” My composure dyke nearly burst…but it held tight until I was free from that place. I will never, ever return and honestly believe that man should have his license taken away, if he even has one to begin with.

Ladies, know where your going to get your hair done and how much you are charged for it. Take it for what it is. Ive learned, the hard way, never to go to a salon where I pay less than $30 for a blow out and flat iron without bringing my own shampoo and conditioner or even better (faster and less money) I wash and condition my hair at home then zip right over to Mays for the blow out and flat iron. I never have my hair cut, colored or processed of any kind. Not that it may not turn out good but Id rather go pay more money to know that I would have best quality products used on my hair. I see the same guy ever time and I am very pleased with his work. Fast and courteous. It is a great place to go for styling and if you need to get your hair done fast and do not feel like paying a lot money to have it done.

I have been getting Japanese Straight Perms for over 6 years now and have never had results so horrible. My hair was frizzier then when i went in. The girl flat ironing my hair burned my scalp several times and so much that I had scabs on my head! The hair cut I received was uneven and I wound up cutting alomst two inched to even it out. I will never go there again!!!

Jason was awesome with my hair and usually Im super picky and paranoid with a new stylist. And you cant beat their pricing, perfect, you shouldnt have to pay an arm and a leg for a great hair cut.
