Theyll do everything to reign you in, but then do nothing to make it a worthwhile investment. Before my move-in I was continually hassled by daily calls confirming that I was still interested. Upon move-in, I was ushered to my storage space on the third floor (their elevator is quite roomy). The higher floors look nothing like the clean, vibrant, and bright first floor. To some degree, this may be expected, but the differences here are rather extreme. The attendant (who Ill get to in a moment) unlocked the door to a dark room with aging plywood walls and invited me to inspect the darkened room. I went to pull the hanging string for the light and nothing happened. Just as I did so I received an answer from said attendant before I could even form my question: the lights had been disabled because people would stack boxes to high, which would be a fire hazard. Okay, fair enough, but there many other ways to deal with this problem—heres a list of a few I thought of just within the moment: —put a screen or grate around the lights or at the maximum possible height things should be stacked; —use motion sensors to activate the lights (as are even used in the hallways of this floor); —use (cool) lighting and (safer) wiring that would lessen the chance of fire along in addition to adequate fire-suppression systems. After a long day of moving and many difficult-to-maneuver variables to account for, I gave in and accepted to rent the space. As Im filling out the stack of paperwork, I notice that the attendants at the front desk all have something in common: theyre all young females who seem to have been pulled directly out of line for the casting of that Jersey shore show (and in style and behavior). I complete the transaction and get back to helping my friend unload items from the loading dock. We take things up the elevator (which is secured by a keypad youre given a code too) and realize that it will be impossible to pack things in the space in any possibly sufficient way without more light than what is grazing in from the hallway. I returned to the front desk to request a flashlight and, to my surprise, they actually had one—a large maglight even! But then I returned to my state of disappointment as I depressed the button multiple times and, again, as I did so, the young women at the front desk expressed what seemed to be an unexpected and pre-formatted response: oh, ya kno, the badries err probably dayd. So I again return to help my friend, using my iPhones flashlight app to brighten the damp room of squalor as we toss bits of belongings into darkness. We leave, only happy to be moving on during our synchronous day of moving out. Nearly a month later, the calls begin again. Daily reminders that my time is drawing to a close and Ive not set up automatic payments. I finally concede, again, and agree to stay put another month as I consider it to be the easiest option and the only one to stop them from nagging like an irritated ex. The price for month 2: >$300. The best value forth this place is the location, but unless youre hand-carrying items from a storage unit to Dumbo, it will be worth your time and other investments to find somewhere more suitable.

This place is horrible. They gave my DRIVERS LICENSE to SOMEONE ELSE when they held it so I could borrow their carts! It took over a week to get it back, and get this, they then gave me the OTHER Womans ID to have me handle the exchange. It took over a week to get them to compensate me for this screw up. I had to get identity protection. A month ago they randomly notified me that my rate was going up, with no reason. No notice, just basically saying, "we decided you pay more now." Then, when I told them I was moving out, they cancelled my recurring card payment (without telling me), and told me TODAY that I couldnt get into my unit without paying a late fee! Im only late because you cancelled my payment without telling me. Im livid and I cant wait to get out of this place. Use anywhere else! Update on 11/7: I just had YET ANOTHER PAYMENT ISSUE WITH THEM. No one seems to care that this place is being run into the ground with terrible service. No need to setup autopay because Im moving to a place down the block and paying more just to get out of this place.

What a great experience! My sales manager Paul was super helpful and friendly, even after I flaked on our appointment the previous day. Since I made my reservation online I qualified for a big discount, but since I I wasnt able to make my appointment I figured I wouldnt get it. Paul not only got me that discount, he made sure I qualified for the Memorial Day sale as well. He didnt have to do any of that, but he went out of his way to make sure I got the best deal possible. Its rare you get that kind of customer focused service these days. Kudos to Public Storage management for fostering that kind of culture and kudos to Paul for being such a generous and helpful guy.

This is a GREAT place to store, My Husband & I Needed Boxes and Ended up renting a small space with Them. Katiria and Adriana Helped Us with The size we needed because Were definetaly Storage Virgins (Haha). We ended up only needing a 5x5 space for just about 20 Boxes of Things that were taking up the little bit of space that we do have in our apartment. They estimated the size and it was PERFECT as well as selling us their super sturdy boxes. (Which were wayy better than the home depot ones we were originally going to go with!) The girls were Super Nice and Knowledgable and Theres nothing I love more than Great customer Service!! Thank you soo much Ladies!! :)

Betsy and Adriana are the heart and soul of Public Storage at 269 Gold Street. Since July 2012 I have had a total of 8 storages. I was able to transfer between storages without breaking any sweat and best of all the bank. Betsy and Adriana never leaves the front desk and always keep the entire 12 floors spotless. Public Storage are very blessed to have these two angels providing high standards and excellent customer service. The very least you can do to help Betsy and Adriana help you is bring water, juice or coffee. They will help you with anything you need at Public Storage with golden smiles! Cheers!

To whom it may concern, Property Manager Kitiria was very personable and extremely helpful, as well as patient and professional. She made what started out for me as a very stressful day, into an easy one. She assessed the volume of my items, while they were still in the truck. This helped me to select the best size room for my belongings. She was very accommodating and gave me lots of information and choices so I could make the best decisions for my belongings. I would definitely recommend Public Storage to my friends based on the excellent treatment by Property Manager Kitiria. Powers Pleasant

They list the wrong hours on the website -- in fact, they seem to change the hours they are open routinely. That may not seem like a big deal to you, until you are RENTING A TRUCK and FILLING IT WITH STUFF to store. If, when you arrive at Public Storage, they are sealed shut (no one to appeal to) then you must then unload the truck, send it back on its way, and then RELOAD it the next day and pay for an additional day of rental. And by the way, they wont be open then, either. It seems to be random. Dont look for a phone number to call in an emergency, there is none.
