Note to local owner: Lewis is a keeper!. Business-like and professional. And apparently trustable. Over the years weve gotten to be nervous whenever we were in need of plumbing services. Theyve got "tricks of the trade" that can be pretty nasty. As business goes these days, we may have more to worry about when dealing with a large corporation than a small one. But in our experience NOT SO WITH ROTO-ROUTER. Theyve proved to be honest, professional and safe to deal with. We were concerned about a smell from one of our drains, and a minor, occasional overflow. Lewis came by and checked things out. Yes, our toilets were getting old and drains were slowing up. ... but there was no reason to try to do anything now and we would not be likely to notice any difference were he to try to clean the drains up now. We bought a gallon of Roto-Router Drain cleaner (with which we have had good experience in the past) to use for continued maintenance. Its a bit steep in price ($55.75) but markedly better than Drano and Sani-Flush. There was NO CHARGE for the service call!. There was no effort to try to sell a service we might not need. "Just keep us in mind if you have a problem." We will. Readers of the NY TIMES will have seen a series of articles exposing the nasty practice by many companies forcing consumers and employees to binding arbitration and forcing them to abdicate their legal rights. As far as I can see,--Im not a lawyer-- the Roto-Router contract does not do this, although it contains a few of the typical evasions of liability that have become standard practice.. They do tell whom to call locally if you have a complaint and provide access to their corporate offices if you dont get satisfaction locally. The contract expresses a desire to please the consumer and thats nice if the mean it. As consumers we should try to push back against piggish, unfair practices in all our dealings with businesses. Pick the ones that play for and starve-out the pigs. --We also should try to play fair and not make up complaints or try to make money by suing-- So far, I would include Roto-Router on my good-guy list. I did notice some negative comments on this page. Some people seem to have run into "tricks of the trade." I guess there will always be variations in the personnel of any company. And we shouldnt expect that all service people go to charm school. If companies reward professionalism, performance and positive evaluations from customers and DOES NOT reward phony efforts to bring in revenue, were likely to get improved business climates.

I was a bit apprehensive to have roto-rooter plumbers come over and do the work, but after exhausting all of my other options and over priced plumber in Long Island, Nassau County, I decided to call roto-rooter, after all it didnt hurt to get an estimate. The roto-rooter staff exceeded my expectations. The dispatcher called me in the morning and tried to get a professional plumber to my place at a decent time (by 9:30am - awesome). The licensed plumber who came over from the Farmingdale, N.Y. office in Long Island, introduced himself "Luis" - tech #51. Luis was up front about the cost and explained everything to me up front. Luis quickly and accurately isolated the problem area (old/rusted pipe). He did a thorough inspection to ensure there were no other problem areas with the pipes. He gave me a decent quote (less than other quotes received by other licensed plumbers in Long Island). Luis understood that I had a tight budget. He provided the best long term solution for my problems. He spared no expense when it came to the quality of work. He spent time (over 5 1/2 hours) to ensure the work was done properly. He tried to find the best solution in order to avoid ripping all of my walls (with my permission, he had to make a small hole to resolve the issue). He triple checked his work and made sure he left without any leaks with the pipes. He thoroughly cleaned any debris, offered a non-intrusive product to protect the pipes (no pressure, my choice), and explained that ALL work is GUARANTEED for 1 YEAR -- any issues he (Luis) will come and fix it for FREE. Luis did an excellent job and exceeded my expectations. If I, or any of my friends ever encounter any plumbing issues, I will definitely tell them to call roto-rooter and ask for Luis. I am sure all the other roto-rooter employees do just as good of a job, but with my experience with Luis, I am sold and will be a life long customer. I cannot speak for anyone else, but the only advice I can give (based on my experience) is to call for yourself and have a roto-rooter technician come over and provide you with an estimate. I am GLAD I did!!!

About a week ago, I had my dad call Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services in Farmingdale to come fix the drain problems in our house. We had just gotten the cesspool pumped, but the bathtub, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink were still filled with water that would not drain. My father was in a terrible accident last year in which his back was broken and his right leg was amputated below the knee. He now has a prosthetic, but he cannot move around the way that he used to due to chronic back pain. He and my boyfriend had every intention on laying in the yard, in the rain, and trying to poke a hole through the clog: my boyfriend providing the man power, and my father providing the instruction. My parents didnt have the money to pay for a plumber, so I told them I would pay. I didnt want the boys miserable all day; especially without having the proper tools or expertise to get the job done sufficiently. My father called Roto-Rooter in Farmingdale and they arrived about an hour after we called. We had a plumber named Ken G. (#3761) and a plumber named Tom (#437). They were fantastic! These guys were very thorough and even went through with the snake a second time, with a different size blade, to be sure that the drain was clear. We were so grateful to be able to take showers, flush the toilet, and run the dishwasher -- you have no idea! Tom told us about the six-month warranty, which I found to be fantastic! Overall, we were supremely pleased with the service provided by Roto-Rooter, and we would definitely recommend them to our friends and acquaintances.

We had a main line from our house to the sewer line in the street clogged with tree roots. THREE companies came out (the last 2 recommended by the first) to figure out the problem; all three said we needed to excavate the pipe, chop down our beautiful old tree that was "in the way", dig up our lawn and garden, our sidewalk, curb and cut into the street, all which they estimated at $15,000!!!!! They said not to put any toilet paper into the toilets at all and to take care of this IMMEDIATELY. They panicked us into giving them $1000 deposit whereupon they would start the permit process. After thinking about it we decided to slow down, not panic, and call another company for a second opinion. We called Roto-Rooter who immediately sent someone out to send a camera (like the other companies did) into the line. RR said it wasnt THAT bad, that the whole thing could be taken care of with a power jet for $1,000. Of course we went that route instead, canceled the excavation and got a partial refund from that company. We did have to pay them for videoing the line as well. RR also told us our old houses main line was NOT made of Orangeburg (a compressed cardboard-like substance used 80 years ago when our house was built) as the other companies surmised, but instead it was made of Translite, a clay and asbestos substance which is more durable. We had so much more PEACE OF MIND after listening to RR and they saved us $13,000!!! THANK YOU Roto-Rooter! You are our new go-to guys for plumbing!
