Im searching for a new non-dealer repair place to get my car serviced. Because of some of the ratings on this place I decided to give it a try. I dropped off my car for inspection, oil change service and the check engine light was on. $89.99 to run a diagnostic on why the check engine light was on. They checked the error and recommended to replace the intake runner solenoid a $162 part. Cost of labor is $368. Pretty steep price but to pass the inspection I approved the order. It was a Wednesday and my wife was told by an employee named James that the part would be in by Friday afternoon and that we could drop off my car for the repairs any time on Saturday. They charged my wife in full for the part and repairs that Wednesday the day we ordered. I arrived to drop off the car on Saturday receipt and document in hand. I handed them the receipt and said I was there to drop the car off. They looked at the receipt and me as if they had no clue what I was talking about. The man I spoke to (not James) quickly glanced at boxes on the floor around and behind the service counter and told me that the part wasnt in. He didnt look in the computer, made no visible effort to really confirm whether the part was in. He said "maybe I should take your number and well call you when the part is in." a bit flustered I said "yeah maybe that is a good idea." and I gave him my number and left. I should note that I had already given them my number when I schedule the initial service. My wife, pretty furious about that fact that the service, which we paid for in full up-front, wasnt happening as promised and called Pep Boys asking to talk to James. James was in and couldnt recall whether or not the part was ever ordered. We were told that they would call when the part is in. He wasnt sure the part was even ordered?!!! In summary this is a pretty bad first experience with this place. When promised that a part is ordered and will be in and told to bring ones car in on a certain day, the company should stick with the commitment or call the client to advise otherwise. Additionally when a mistake is made as it was in this instance at the very least an apology and assurances are in order. In this instance all employees involved acted as if this is standard procedure and it was okay to have a client take the time to show up for scheduled service and be denied. EDIT - UPDATE: We were called same day and told the part is in! maybe it was the whole time... either way. bring in the car for repairs tomorrow. Will try to update with the end result.

I had my car towed to Pep Boys Lindenhurst at 9:30 Saturday morning because my normal mechanic was swamped with work. I was told it would be looked at and diagnosed early afternoon. I called back at 2:30 pm and they said I was the next car up. I arrived back at 3:30 pm. My car sat in the same spot it was put in at 6:00 pm. I asked what is going on with my car and the next guy told me that hell look at it but I wont have it back until the following morning. He also said that he was not told that my car was there until 5:00 pm. Fine. 11:30 am the next morning I was called and told that I need a new battery at the price of $177 in order to diagnose the issue which is comical at best. I told them to charge the battery and find out what wrong with my car. I knew I didnt need a new battery because I had it checked by my mechanic a month earlier. I needed my car back so I said ok change the battery. I arrived there at 1:00 pm and nothing done to the car. A half hour later they tell me that they dont have the battery that I need in stock and they cant get one from another location. 28 hrs and nothing done. I called a tow truck to have it brought to my normal mechanic. A complete waste of time and extremely incompetent employees and service. If I could give them 0 stars I would. My normal mechanic opens up at 8:00 am Monday morning so I called his shop at that time and explained to him the issue that I was having. Two hours and 25 mins later the problem is diagnosed and my car was in the process of being fixed. My mechanic never mentioned to me that I needed a new battery so basically Pep Boys was trying sell me a battery that I didnt need. They are scam artists and will try to squeeze as much money out of your wallet as humanly possible! I do not recommend this place and I will never set foot in there again. Dishonest corporate business practices!

I came in for a new battery. I chose the battery ahead of time on their website using the ones offered for my specific car. When I had the battery changed they tried to tell me that I had the wrong one selected and wanted to put in a more expensive one. Then they claimed that they were charging me for a new braket since "the old one was bad." My old one had battery acid on it and I could clearly see that they just tried to clean it off and claim it was a new one, but I could see they missed a few spots. Going in I knew I needed 2 front tires, but I wasnt planning on getting it done here so I never said anything. When my work was done, an employee took me outside to the front passenger tire and said that I needed 4 new tires. He then brought me back in and proceeded to give me and estimate on tired despite me telling him I wasnt getting them done. He then selected the cheapest tires for me at $50 each, which I know they dont make much off of tires anyway, and then tacked on nearly $300 in addition work. He wanted to charge nearly $100 more in labor than the tires cost plus the fact that I really only needed 2 tires. These guys think that nobody has a clue and they just say and do anything to tack on more money to your bill because they have quotas to reach and want to get a bonus. I knew there was a reason that the last time I went to Pep Boys was 3 cars ago.

Update on this: 1 year later all 4 of my tires were showing metal on the insides of my tires. Called service, waited on hold for about 45 minutes, called back multiple times. And they say I have to buy new tires. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. DISGUSTED! RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE. Dropped my car off at 12 looking for 2 new tires. 2 hours later I get a call stating they will only install 4. And I was forced to get 4 tires or nothing at all. I call them at 5 asking why its taking so long they told me its almost done. I get there at 530 waiting another 15min for anyone to come to the counter. (Multiple people outside smoking cigerettes). we had to finally go outside to ask for help. I set my car finally at 6pm. 6hrs for 4 new tires when I was promised 2 hours tops. thats not the worst part... They THREW my spare in my explorers trunk. (It goes under the car). They threw it on top of my 900$ work laptop and my tools along with getting my grandmothers blanket filthy. I went inside to complain but the kid at the counter ignored me. And didnt offer a solution. I get home to realize 2 of my LUG NUTS WHERE LOOSE. unacceptable! Beware this is not the first time something like this has happend.
