This gym has some things going for it, namely the price. Its pretty darned cheap at $20 a month, and you can bring a friend each time. You and another person could basically share a membership and then it would only be 10 a month. The gym has fairly new equipment and each cardio machine has its own tv. The facilities are also pretty new and nice. They have a lot of machines and there is never any trouble finding a free one. Besides that, there are some problems. First, it is often not clean and the machines are not well-maintained. One time, I got an awful shock from an exposed wire on the remote control for the tv. Other times, I have had to try 4 or 5 treadmills before I found one that was working the way its supposed to. The water fountain was broken for days before anyone did anything about it. Many of the lockers in the womens locker room are unable to be locked b/c they are broken. Sometimes the gym smells ungodly, as if they havent cleaned in a while. Second, the staff are a bit rude and/or aloof. Im never actually sure who works there and who doesnt. Some staff are helpful and nice, but most of the time, they dont seem to know what they are talking about. Third, pizza night/free candy. What the h-ll? this is supposed to be a gym. Its a nice idea, but Im there to work out, not to be tempted. And as a previous reviewer stated, free pizza night brings out the worst element in Newburgh. The creepiest people, just milling about. No thank you. All in all, this gym is just OK. Im getting pretty bored with the same stuff. I mean, how many times can you work out on the same elliptical before youre bored? Wish they offered real classes or something.

Not what Im looking for. I managed to work around the deadlift by sticking to heavy shrugs and squat for a similar effect. I was worried about my breathing heavy since they dont like grunts, I lift weight within challenging ranges so I cant help it. These were perfectly fine, good people seem to be training here as the gym goers were polite and even complimented each other. Downside, rude staff who communicated poorly. First month I paid cash so I can test the gym and not get stuck in hard to cancel contracts. I was told I had a full week to put my card in an online account or I "cannot" work out after the first week. Within two days this tune changed as I was told by the same person I wouldnt be able to come the next day. So not a fan of predatory business practices. Hours are also poorly explained, as listed right on the wall, open hours were supposedly 12am to 10pm. This is inaccurate and I had to get a staff member to tell me what the real hours were. This would be nice to know since it wasted a big chunk of time for me. Edit: I get the feeling they have poor competition in the area. The other nearby gym Maximum fitness has the same issues. Inaccurate time and very rude staff. Only extra peeve was the gym goers like to waste time "SITTING" on a station talking so slightly less serious culture compared to planet fitness which is odd in and of itself.

I really tried to hang in there since in the beginning of my membership, about 2 1/2 years ago, Newburgh Planet was terrific! As of the last year, it has been awful. I enjoy watching mindless tv shows while on the treadmill; however good luck finding both a working treadmill and a working tv. Manager claims that they are working on improving these as well as other problems. Things were better for a few weeks, but now back to the same nonsense. I realize the cost is minimal, however, if services are advertised then they should be in working order (of course with the occasional break down) regardless of the cost. Hopefully they will pull it back together with better customer service and regularly working, reliable equiptment so I can rejoin some day again. It sure was convenient. Really a shame.

I know the staff is very rude and showers not very clean I totally agree but as far as the candy and pizza thing that kinda threw me to but than I got thinking about it, theres a lot of diabetics that work out and if your sugar drops you can die! I have diabetes myself so a candy if your sugar drops is a great idea...second is the pizza night, there probably doing that for the members who dont have a lot of money and Im sure it helps them or they could be just advertising for the pizza place right next to them. So think before you get critical. I dare you to find another gym for only$20 that you can bring a friend with you for free and get a massage! Go price tanning beds and massages you will never find cheaper!! theres a

Three years of going to Planet Fitness 1 to 2 times a week we have gotten to know many of the desk people and sometime they dont even ask my wife for her ID. Today because she forgot it which is easy since she is visually impaired and doesnt need a licence to drive We were told to go home and get it. Thats a long ride to get ID that doesnt even get logged in in any way. I have been told that they need ID for insurance reasons but if it isnt logged in or put in the computer where is the trace if an accident happens? If her ID had been scanned then it would be in the computer and a quick look would say looks like her. Not only am I upset about the silly rule but with the snotty attitude of the person behind the desk!

Worst customer service. The young lady at the front desk on Friday, 9/23, around 6:40pm was very nasty and Unprofessional. Needs to learn how to respond to an honest question professionally. Ive been going to this gym for 7 years and never missed a payment, I just wanted to update my billing info and I really felt like I was bothering her. She thought I was trying to walk away without paying my missed month. The only reason why I put 2 stars is because I love this gym but "boy" does the service suck, it would of been NO STARS. But what do you expect, its planet fitness....

I cannot stand pizza night at the gym, I feel it goes against all that the a gym stands for, and the people that show up off the streets I never see them there any other time, Its as if the worst people from New burgh show up for a free meal. If you wanted to feed the hungry your in the wrong line of work. If you must feed the hungry try something healthier. I dont go to the pizza shop to work out, why would I go to the gym to eat.

Rude and unhelpful staff, Ive been trying to cancel my account for Two months now and Im still getting billed. Last time i went to get this straighten out, they said it was canceled for certain , all I said "Great ,thank you". Then the staff started to mock me as i was leaving. When i turned around and looked at them, they were trying to hide their faces as they were snickering and laughing at me. Please stay away for this gym.
