Let me start by saying that I work at College Town across the street from the Mt. Hope Service Center, on top of that I spent the last 2 years as a tire and battery tech at Sams Club so I know this issue just as well as any other professional mechanic. Recently my battery died while I was at work, so I made a call to the service center (or should I say NO SERVICE center). I asked if they had a jump box that I could use and the woman on the other end of the phone immediately took an attitude with me. Instead of politely telling me that the service station didnt have a jump box (which by the way, what kind of shop doesnt have a jump box!?) the woman suggested that I have my car towed from the adjacent parking lot, 30 feet away, and that I just replace the battery starting at a humble $160. You read that right. This mechanical oracle of a desk attendant made the call over the phone, without testing the battery or even looking at the car in general, that replacing the battery was the only option. Also $160 for a battery? Are you kidding me? When I inquired about borrowing jumper cables the woman said "We dont give handouts! How the hell do you expect me to make a living?" I explained that I just wanted to get home and I was willing to pay pretty much any price for a set of jumper cables. This was too much for the desk attendant to handle, and she had to ask her boss. After being on hold for way too long she informed me that the boss said no. What kind of person wont loan jumper cables to someone in need? Especially someone willing to pay? In the end I had to hitch a ride to Pep Boys, where they actually give a damn about their customers. PEP BOYS GOT ME A NEW BATTERY $60 LESS THAN THE MT. HOPE (NO) SERVICE CENTER. My overall opinion: The only thing worse than the service centers customer service and price gouging is the fact that Google is forcing me to give this 1 star instead of the big fat 0 it deserves.

Ive been going to Mount Hope Service for the past 8 years and being in a profession that requires input 40,000 miles on my car annually. Im always surprised when I see a review questioning the owners integrity but I guess in todays culture people just want be told what they want to hear. Like a good doctor, Ive felt that Ive always been given the best advice but it wasnt always the quick fix worry about it later solution. Two vehicles and at least 4-6 visits a year for maintenance, Ive NEVER had a problem fixed only to leave the lot and find another or same problem emerge a couple weeks later. Often they have found real problems before I was aware. Ive worked with other mechanics in years past where this just wasnt the case. Mechanics who thought they had the solution until I brought my car back a couple days later (happened too many times to think about). Mount Hope Service is a perfect example of the small guy who gets it right the first time. If you want the cheap, quick, easy fix go somewhere else but know youll be visiting them more often. I rather pay a little more by someone who cares a gets it done right the first time. #500,000mileclub.

Jeff and his team are great guys. Its not everyday you come across good, quality, honest, and knowledgeable people like these guys. Jeff is a very approachable guy; he will give you an honest opinion about how the thinks and the rationales of why he thinks that way and discuss options, and is just cool to chat with in general. Jeff and his team are highly qualified mechanics that know what they are doing. They have a running list of certifications and qualifications that are supported by their ability to perform precise and quality work. Jeff will not give up until the problem is fixed and he will go out of his way to make sure that happens while being more than fair. After having my car in with a plethora of problems, Jeff was able to not only figure out the problem and fix it, but return it to me running better than it has in years. It feels like an entirely different car and I could not be happier with the results. I look forward to bringing the car back in the future to have a few more things taken care of. Bottom line: Absolutely Stunning.

I dont usually write reviews, but I felt personally OFFENDED by the owners attitude. I asked if theres discount for U of R students and what he said was unbelievable. " ARE YOU CRAZY, you rich Simon students from China dont need discounts." First of all, I am not from China. Second of all, I only have a 10 year old Kia. BUT he is right, I am a business school student. As a small business , if you are only able to sustain yourself by giving a material QUOTE THATS TWICE AS MUCH AS OTHER service centers, I understand. The owner quoted $500 for a door latch cable replacement while in other bigger places I got quoted $250 instead. Jeff, I hope you can grow your business by being more fierce to the clueless international students. With a bigger business, maybe you can start marking down the price to the fair market value.

I would not completely trust this owner. He claimed to have changed my oil a couple months back but when another auto place checked it out last week it was in desperate need of an oil change. He also almost double charged me for a service as well. All the other work he did to my car seems to be holding up satisfactory, and the owner seemed nice enough. Just felt uneasy bc of those two things I mentioned. I would feel more comfortable going to Lefabres on Stone road in Greece, the staff have never let me down once and my father trusts them completely with his auto needs.

Quoted me about 2,000 for repairs (just for replacing all the break lines which they all didnt need to be replaced!). I took it to another shop in Caledonia to confirm I needed to scarp the car and get a new one and they are fixing everything for 500 including another problem it had with the fuel line and the mechanic assured me it was a decent car with minor problem that could all be fixed for under the quoted price of the MT Hope Service People which was just for the break lines . Dont recommend going to this shop unless you want to be ripped off and over charged.

For over 25 years I have relied on Mt. Hope Service for all my vehicle maintenance and tires. I care about my cars, follow the maintenance guidelines, and generally drive them for more than 10 years with high mileage. Mt. Hope Service makes it easy, and save me money over dealer prices. They are honest and do high quality work and give me great advice about my cars. I give them my highest rating and refer friends to them. Please support your local independent businesses who work hard for us every day.

I walk past this place every day, so I popped in to ask a question about an install if I brought my own parts. The gentleman abruptly said he "did not want to get involved". Evidently, he "makes [his] money on parts and labour" and so has no interest if I supply my own. His tone and attitude were abrupt and he did not at all seem interested in my business. If this is the way they treat potential clients, Im definitely not going there for any kind of work.
