First off. Some really great reputable barbers work here by appointment only and at least one walk in barber is excellent. But I just took my chances on a walk in and lost. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, we talked about it and then she did something completely different. I showed her a picture of the wildest textured hair Ive ever seen and I got a police style flat top. I have red hot spots around my ears like a dog that scratched too much. The back of my head itches too, but Im not sure if its red too because I cant see it. I left my house to do something to make me feel more confident and look better and ended up getting burned so hard. I wasted so much time and gas and parking and walking and the hair I had grown out to get styled and also the $20 that it cost. I didnt say a word when I was there. The hair was gone, no one could put it back and I was just too mad and I worried that if I were to so much as say how the mark was missed I would have been excessively mean, but right now with this red irritation I think someone could have used a discouraging word.

Overpriced, mismanaged, nothing special. First visit went well enough chose it based on location from work. The barber pole and old chairs are nostalgic but thats where it ends. Each barber, stylist works independently. Second visit called early just after the 10:00 am opening time, given a 3:30 appointment showed on time. Checked in watched several people look in appointment books. Waited 20 minutes to find out that I actually was not on anyones book. OK at this point 3 barbers have empty chairs and they are all mumbling to each other BUT no one looked over at me and said, "Were sorry, we seem to have made a mistake we will take you right now. Which one of us would you like to cut your hair. Nope it was clear to me that was not coming so I walked out. Waste of my time out of the office and went to Great Clips. No wait, checked in from my cell, paid $15.00 plus tip and still it cost me half what this place charges.

Its been 10 years since Ive had a haircut that I was happy with. The streak of bad cuts ended today! AJ took care of me today and did a great job. He listened to how I specifically wanted my hair cut and then did it! Im getting married soon and he also told me that they offer shave parties for everyone. I thought that was a great idea and will be getting everyone a clean shave. I cant have bums at my wedding! Its good to know that barbershops like this still exist. In the day and age when most men just go to something with the word "clips" in the title that small shops like this still exist. Like other reviewers mentioned, its $20 for a cut, shave and shampoon. Thats not a bad deal at all.

After having two great barbers back in Rochester NY. It was a little nerve wracking trying to find a new barber upon moving to North Carolina back in September of 2014. However, after much research and reviews. I found this shop in downtown Asheville, as I always loved the Grove Arcade Building anyway. During a random stop on a Monday afternoon to the shop. I walked in as this was Amy Jos first day working at the shop. So, I was able to get in as a walk in with her. Since, then Amy Jo has been 5 stars....probably 10 stars with each and every time I have gone for a cut. We always discuss what I want and she never disappoints me. All of the other staff seem to be very friendly as well.

I am new to the Asheville area, having recently moved in from Midtown, Atlanta. I was looking for a hair salon/barber shop that was low key and inviting, as well as having someone really skilled with clippers on staff. I should also mention Im a female who likes to wear her hair REALLY short. It has been a challenge to find a place in the Asheville area that would take me at my word, whip out the clippers and JUST DO IT. Ray was FANTASTIC. I showed him a tattered old photo of the haircut I prefer and he went right to work and gave me one of the best cuts Ive had in a very long time. Great cut, upbeat attitude and unbeatable price.

This was my first experience with a barber shop. Before I had always gone to a local salon or stylist that didnt specialize in mens haircuts. This was by far the best haircut I have ever gotten. Jamie cut my hair and did an amazing job. I cannot express how excited I was leaving the place to be very proud of the cut I had just gotten. I am Knoxville, TN, and after my experience here with Asheville Barber and Beard, its safe to say that I will be driving 3 hours for my haircut from now on!

I would recommend Asheville Barber and Beard without hesitation. Made a first appointment and was treated like a long time customer. When I got there staff were friendly and engaging. Marcus cut my hair (which was a mess...) He listened to what I wanted.( Its summer, and I wanted to go short...) He made several recommendations which were spot on. Cut my hair very well... He was easy going, engaging and friendly. I made a follow up for a month out... Dont intend to go anywhere else.

My husband has incredibly thick hair with an unruly cowlick. AVL Barber and Bead is the only place with barbers who have been able to tame his hair. Amy Jo is his girl, but everyone hes seen has been great. If you want a specific barber, you definitely need to make an appointment in advance, but what do you expect when youre dealing with talent? We are relocating out of Asheville soon, and I can only hope we find another barber up to the challenge!

Walked in. Was never greeted. Put my name on the list. Was never acknowledged. Waited two hours. Was never told how long the wait might be. One barber finished his client, gave me the just a minute hand signal and then he left. Waited another fifteen minutes. Another barber assured me it would be soon. It wasnt soon it was never. Walked out. More terrible customer service from this half-assed hillbilly town.

Waited two hours and watched employees leave for the day without being acknowledged. Normally I dont pay attention the the one star reviews, but I wish I had. Went to the mall afterwards, it took 15 mins, about what I expect from Asheville. Dont take walk ins if youre gonna leave people sit there, just be appointment only, youll get more people like me leaving bad reviews for a service I didnt even get.

It was an average haircut for a slightly above average price. She missed a couple spots (back of neck). the sides are fairly uneven, and she had a very hard time understanding what I wanted (short on the sides, long on top); she ended up fading the sides to the length of the top rather than making a distinct difference between the two. Anyway, I was expecting better based on the reviews.
