Finally...a quality barbecue place in The Triangle. We moved here nearly 4 years ago and have been looking everywhere for a good barbecue place and FINALLY found it at City Barbecue. We didnt even know it was here until we were on our way to a local store when we smelled the smoke...you can smell the barbecue smoke from Kildaire Farm Rd. I wish I was joking because I know Ill gain several pounds from eating here going forward. This is also one of the very few places that I have found in the entire state that sells smoked sausage...and when I say smoked sausage, I mean juicy, delicious, plump, fresh smoked sausage links in natural casing. Their pulled pork and variety of barbecue sauces are on point..as are their hush puppies, which didnt come off greasy or overdone. There are a couple of negatives though but they by no means take away from this place: the baked beans with brisket seemed like a delicious idea, and they were, however they were a tad sweet for my wife and I when coupled with the tangy BBQ sauce. They also forgot the cornbread I ordered and I didnt realize until I got back. This doesnt overshadow the service I received from the smiling cashier at the front that explained everything to me. Include their REWARDS program. Yes, you too can get rewarded for eating barbecue. Bottom line: this place is a real deal smoke house that has finally made its way to The Triangle.

Not worth the $30+ my partner and I spent! We had dropped a patient at Western Wake and wanted lunch. My partner had googled bbq to see what was nearby, and City BBQ came up. We looked at the menu online and saw "competition quality" St. Louis Ribs and "Award-winning" beef brisket. Oh yea! We were all about some good BBQ. What a disappointment, somebody tell me when they serve the good stuff! I got the 2-meat, Ribs and Brisket, my partner got the Ribs and pulled pork, and we both got a side of fries and a drink. Seriously? The "competition quality" ribs were tough as all get out! and my brisket was half fat! My partners ribs were the same and he said the pork was dry and sure didnt have any smoke flavor..do you guys actually "Smoke" your meats? or are they oven-baked? Sure did not taste liked smoked meat should! Call us old fashioned, but you dont get three strikes. When it comes to food, you only get one! and oh yea... the review by "Herb Meaders" ..lol if theres ever been a fake review by an employee.. seriously, " Von and the entire staff". who says that? (an employee does).

1/4 lb of pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, 4 sides and 2 drinks came to around $20 so not bad for fresh smoked meat and homemade sides. Smoked chicken (dark meat) was great. Pulled pork was great. Im one of those people that dont like fatty pork, makes me gag and everythings ruined after that so I was pleased to find only one piece of fat. Pork doesnt have sauce in it so that those of us who like to do so can fix it the way we want it...I wasnt a fan of the sweet sauce but the pepper vinegar and hot sauce were perfect for me. I make my own homemade mac n cheese and did not like theirs...nice and creamy, looks great, but has an after taste that reminds me of processed American cheese. Green beans, hush puppies and cukes/onions were all great. Actually really did love the tea...not too sweet as is typical of many places. Can see how seating might get dicey depending upon time of day. Overall, we liked it so much were going back tonight to pick up a BP 1 and I dont have to cook!!

Not worth the wait (long lines). Pretty average barbecue place. Not inexpensive. Food tends to vary from a bit salty to extremely salty (the gumbo was way, way, way over-salted). They exchanged it for something else. The girl at the cash register did not know what dark meat chicken was, claiming she had never eaten chicken. The pork was not exciting, the chicken a bit boring, although perfectly cooked and not dry. The ribs were quite good and the brisket was very good, but salty. The cornbread is not bad. The brushfire sauce is tasty. The fries - well, they were fries. Not bad, not great. You can do better. Red Hot & Blue in Raleigh or The Pik n Pig in Carthage come to mind as wonderful alternatives. In the immediate area, Dannys barbecue is a better bet. However, judging by the long lines there is still a large market for mediocre food in Cary. Perhaps the food will evolve as time goes by, but being part of a chain, I doubt it.

I went in expecting that the staff would be in a hurry, or a little rude since it was 5 minutes before closing time. I was pleasantly surprised to find everyone helpful and friendly. I was allowed to sample the meats, and take my time figuring out what I wanted to order. One young lady was cleaning the dining room, but made sure to let me know that it was still okay to dine in if I wanted to. Another lady grabbed her umbrella and walked me to my car so that I wouldnt have to go into the pouring rain. I had wonderful service and interactions with 3 different young ladies while there. I appreciate the excellent customer service, as I had driven from Durham, NC, and it was my first visit to your establishment. My boyfriend is a big fan of the Garner store, and we drove to Cary just so I could try City Barbecue for the first time. The food was still hot by the time I arrived home with it, and it was delicious. I will definitely be back!

My experience at City BBQ was ruined before I got my food. After ordering an hour and a half ahead of time, I stood at the counter for 25 minutes waiting to pick up our company lunch. We get lunch every Thursday from different places in the area, and I have never had this problem anywhere else (even at the busy places). I was excited to try City. I literally stood there for 25 minutes, I got there at 12 when I requested my order to be ready, and was helped at 12:25. There were 2 people in front of me. The food was good, especially the bbq and the slaw, but it wasnt worth standing there smelling it for half an hour before I got to leave with it. The ladies ahead of me were offered an extra banana pudding for having to wait for so long, even though they were most of the cause for the wait. Told my co-workers if they wanted it again they would have to go pick it up, because I will not be.

Whether you live Raleigh or just passing through, this place should be on your list to try! The Menu - A wide variety of things to choose from. If you were like me and cant decide what you want ( because everything sounds / looks / smells good ), try the Deluxe City Sampler. With a 1/4 chicken, 1/2 slab of ribs plus pulled pork, beef brisket, 2 sides, 2 cornbreads and Texas toast, there is more than enough food to feed two people with leftovers to spare. Added on the fresh cut fries and the mac & cheese and it was like heaven in a bag! Did I mention its just as good reheated ?!?! The Staff - Probably the best part of my visit. You can tell they are not only good at what they do but love doing it. A truly local experience that you wont soon forget. Plenty of smiles and laughs as they get your goodies ready for you. A new place to frequent ... cant WAIT to go back!
