I went to Aveda yesterday to get a formal up-do and my makeup done. The girl who done my hair done a great job and was very quick. When I went to get my makeup application done, the lady who was doing it, was very unorganized and had to go back into the back several times to get things she should have got before she even started. The makeup selection is very slim and the colors they had were way off for my skin tone. I have fair skin and all of their makeup was geared towards a medium to dark complexion. I let the lady know that my dress I was wearing was red and she pulls out at first pink eye shadow and I told her no way was I wear pink on red and then she pulls out purple. Come on, purple? This is what she is going to school for, to learn to match things and make customers makeup look great. I had to tell her again, no I am not wearing purple on red. Finally I had to look at the eye shadows myself and pick my own color out because she would had me looking like a clown. Their makeup is also very heavy feeling and doesnt do well with oily skin. I luckily brought my own compact and used it to tone down the makeup from being so dark. She also had no clue on how to do eye liner so I had to go to the local drug store and buy some before the party. She applied mascara to my top eyelashes but didnt put any on the bottom. I had to ask her to apply some and she didnt even do it right. I had tiny little brush marks on my lower eyelash area. While buying eyeliner, I had to pick up some mascara and redo the bottom section. I asked for my lipstick to give me a tiny bit of color but due to my dress being red, I need a natural look on my lips. What does she bring out? Bright red! I told her that would be way to much and then she brings out a burgundy color. Not sure who is teaching her, her colors but she didnt pay attention that day or missed it. I was very disappointed in the very small amount of makeup they allow their students to use. I would recommend getting your hair done here but skip the makeup. I would give the makeup application about a 2 for lack of being able to match colors, small amount of makeup and the lack of being prepared. The lady who done my makeup was Sheneka(or something close) and Cecil done my hair.

I wish I would have read these comments before going to the Aveda Institute. I have not had my haircut in quite a while but the last time I went was on my lunch break and it took about 45 minutes. Well at A.I. you better be prepared for a haircut to take 2 1/2 hours. That is an extremely long time to just cut the ends off of straight hair. I should have known I was in for trouble when the girl couldn’t even comb my wet hair. She started at the top of my wet head, sprayed something in it and tried to detangle if after washing it with out conditioner. Ouch! Finally I had to just take out my own comb and show her that you have to start at the bottom and make your way up. You would think that would have been covered in the first month of training before you even get to start cutting. The lady cutting my hair was very nice though but after an hour I was getting antsy. I was beginning to freak out towards the end of the second hour though watching her blow dry my hair so slowly after telling her I was late getting back to work now. Then on the way to pay I was fighting back tears as I passed by mirrors and saw how bad my hair looked. It was so dull and crunchy, the opposite of how I came in. I have never had my hair feel crunchy like this or look this dull. The final straw that broke the camels back was the attitude of the ladies at the check out. Obviously I was interrupting their personal conversations and bothering them by paying because they were so rude. I am so upset and will never risk going back there again. You get what you pay for and for $15 that isn’t much! To my old salon, I am sorry I left and I will see you soon!!!

I had never had a problem with Aveda before this week. I went in on my birthday, and asked for a trim (no more than an inch) and an ombre dye. I came out with more than two inches off my hair, no noticeable change in color, and an incredible amount of damage done to my hair. Looking back, I dont think the girl who did my hair fully washed out any of the dye, shampoo, or conditioner while she had me at the sink. I couldnt even run my fingers through my hair - there was SO much product buildup and it was so dry. As soon as I got home I had to wash, dry, and re-style it before my date that evening. After I straightened it, I realized that there were more than three places on the ends of my hair that I had to re-trim on my own, because they were over an inch longer than the rest of my hair. It was awful. I called the store back and they gave me a service guarantee for a corrective trim and a botanical treatment to try to get some health back into my hair, but they still refuse to give me a service guarantee to re-color my hair. They told me they "disagree that there is no change in color". I went in today for the corrective trim and botanical treatment, and they had to take another inch off my hair to correct their mistake. My hair is now three inches shorter, still recovering from damage, and the same color as it was when I started the process... and it cost me $142.

You get what you pay for and customer service to match. Ive had my hair cut or colored a few times here, never been impressed, but my hair is easy and I understand its a school. I got my hair done last week and my appt lasted from 11am-5pm! In that time they were trying to lighten my good and healthy hair and I dont know about how hair processes, so I just went along with it. When the stylist finished there were a few noticeable spots where the toner didnt take properly, no problem they said. I came back 2 days later...another student redid my hair. Another 4 hours in the chair and there were now dark noticeable lines and bright bleached and brassy spots and the instructor said, "it looks good right?". It doesnt, not even a little. And Im blaming the instructors more than the students here because they are approving the process. When we spoke about what would take place I was told one thing and then later told the instructor would do what she thought would look best...if this was the best lol! When I called to see about having the service partially refunded, I was told they dont refund any portion. I could just return again, but I may want to want a few days...my hair is breaking off in fried sections from the lightening. Yeah, I wont be returning to Aveda again, not worth saving a hundred bucks when you have to spend the same or more to have it fixed by a pro!
