Ive been getting my hair done by Nena for almost a year now, and she never fails to impress with the VARIOUS styles she manages to whip together on my head!! Shes done my kinky twists, two-strand twists, many different crochet styles (for which I always get many compliments), box braids, and more. Oh, and not to mention the wonderful, MUCH healthier, longer, and stronger place she was able to get my hair in a relatively short time and surely since compared to when I first started going to her last year!! For that I am most grateful to her. Nena is very professional and highly knowledgeable when it comes to natural hair and also good health in general, but she is also very cool, funny, and approachable. And honest! She will be real with you about what may or may not be a good idea for your hair, whether its regarding your hairs health or how a certain style might look. I always have a pleasant time at Always A Head, with the other stylists who work there also being friendly, polite, and professional, and a clean, laidback atmosphere. I highly recommend Nena and Always A Head in general to any and everybody I can, especially if theyre looking for a local natural stylist and salon or theyve complimented a style of mine and express interest in getting one similar. If youre searching, look no further than Always A Head!!!

Im giving them a one star rating for a valid reason.(This was a secondary choice because my stylist was booked, talk about HOT!) So I went in to get a simple wash & twist. The "stylist", I was going to call her a loctician but NO. So long story short she gave me a excessively long deep conditioning wash, which was entirely unnecessary. The "retwist" was no retwist. It was like she was playing in my hair!?! awful!! My hair actually looked the same way??? I felt confident going in and depressed leaving out. I should have caught the hint when I was told that two of there stylist left to get their OWN Salons. And had the nerve to overcharge me!?! I WOULD have recommended this place but after this unfortunate event not at all. I hope there future clients have a different experience, because surely enough their half-stepping and laziness will most definitely be there downfall.

I recently made the decision to transition to natural hair, and called this salon when I started getting stressed about what to do with my hair in the meantime. The stylist who answered the phone (Laurie) was wonderful -- calm, warm and very knowledgable. I was able to get a consult with her the same day, and was able to get in for an appointment within a couple of days. My hair looks fabulous. The salon is clean, warm and homey, and all of the stylists are excellent with many years of experience. My stylist, Laurie, has magic hands!! Highly recommend this salon to anyone who has natural hair, or is headed in that direction.

Quality work, Nena doesnt rush, nor is she slow but she is going to make sure that what shes doing is the healthiest option for your hair. The African salons just want your money and they dont care about your edges, well not here! Also the barber Hasaand is amazing, very professional and experienced. I get so many compliments when Nena & Hasaand do my hair. Its your one stop shop!

They owner/stylist was very nice, however, my starter dreads came out horrible, I had to get them reinstalled 4 weeks later, my parts where all different sizes, the ones in the back were a lot smaller than the ones in the front, I didnt have a full head of locs either because the parts were so big! My locs were not neat and uniformed. I would not got back or recommend.

Terrible! Don’t waste your time! *Poorly skilled stylist and overpriced *Stylist was incompetent and insisted on services I didnt ask for; and when she ruined my hair she refused to reconcile the situation. Words that describe this salon’s service: Lazy, Amateurish, BASIC, Unpolished, Unfinished, Hopeless, Pathetic and Overpriced

I like this place was recommended to me by my barber cause was going to this other lady who charged entirely too much. Always Ahead is very reasonable, good atmosphere, kind people and I love my loctician Ms.Nena she always do great no problem yet and I stay getting compliments on my hair. Definitely recommend here :).
