Its about to be a month since I visited Taji and Ive been sitting on this review for a while. Because, I want to support Black businesses and I do really hate to leave bad reviews. But I have to do my due diligence and let others know about what to potentially expect. Let me first say that I in no way doubt that the stylists at Tajis know natural hair and are very knowledgeable about how to keep hair healthy. I went in to Taji to get a professional trim since I hadnt had one in about a year. I have been natural for about 6 years. Once I arrived there for my appointment with Jill, I explained to her that I had some breakage that in the back of my head due to me not keeping up with taking care of it. She washed my hair, deep conditioned it and during that process she kept telling me that I hadnt fully transitioned from my relaxer days yet. I told her thats impossible. She persisted that my hair was too straight with no elasticity to have fully transitioned. I explained to her that its probably heat damage because I do get blowouts. She then started to persist that I need to big chop in order to get my hair back to healthy. Now my natural hair, when stretched is bra strap length at this point. I told her absolutely NOT READY for a big chop. The back of my hair that was breaking off, I told her to cut that short and even since it was already so damaged but do NOT worry about making the rest of my hair that short. While she is blowing out my hair she is still persisting that I big chop and how it;s the best for my hair. I explained to her that I am NOT ready for that and that I just want a simple trim. Right before she starts to cut, she says "Ok, Ill try to cut as much as possible today." After she said that I asked her to turn me around to face the mirror and she didnt. I let it go. Long behold, SHE CUT MY HAIR to be even with the back. I could not believe it. The whole time I am telling her that she did exactly what I asked her NOT to do. And in my mind Im thinking about my wedding in October and how Im going to style my hair this sort. I walked out with my hair barely touching my neck. And she at one point saw how in distress I was asked me not to cry and that "it will grow back". As the mature woman that I am, I sucked it up, allowed her to put in two cornrows and even tipped, knowing that I would never be back. I have to be the one to make a scene. So I left in peace. Ladies, this salon charges a grip to begin with. If you want to experience stylist that actually take what you say into consideration, this isnt for you. Styling your hair facing away from the mirror is not cool. When you turn around you may be devastated as I was. DO your research and if you are still wanting to try Taji, INSIST on facing the mirror as they cut your hair.

MY Taji Experience, So I was in transition trying to grow out my relaxer and hadnt really dealt with my natural hair sense I was a child. I searched for a while to find a salon that specialized in natural hair and that was in my area. And I have to be honest...one reason Ive not had my hair done in a while is because I HATE and I mean HATE the age old tradition of sitting in the salon for hours because a stylist schedules one on top of the other. Who has an entire 5 hours to sit and wait for their turn to move from the shampoo bowl to the dryer and then to the stylist chair? Anyways I saw that Taji charged $15 for a consultation and I called and scheduled and appointment. I honestly cant remember with whom but when I showed up I check in and found that the stylist I was there to see was out side chatting it up with some man. So I sat down and waited. Then the stylist came in grabbed a clip board with a few questions on it and asked me basic questions like, "What were my hair goals?" and "How long had I been growing my hair out?" which I answered. After maybe 5 min she took my to the front desk and told the lady I needed a roller set...an $85 roller set. She didnt touch my hair...didnt look at my ends or its texture (it was up in a tight bun)..nothing. I literally burned my own gas and paid $15 for her to ask me a few questions and then recommend that I spend $85 having my hair washed and put in rollers. Needless to say I declined to the schedule anything there...no I didnt ask for my money back either...and left. It really makes me sad that I have white friends that can walk into a hair salon and get professional, punctual service but I have to hunt and dig through all these black hair salons that want to pay to put up nice web sights and pretend to be professional...only to arrive and its the same old "let me get you" scam. And yes to charge a person $15 to answer a questionnaire...one that could easily be done online and brought in...not to sit them in a chair and actually look at what kind of hair or its condition...but just to read questions off of a paper....its a rip off. And FYI it was a rip off at a first impression. I know women who go to stylists all the time and come home and arent happy with their service and just gripe about it..but I work too hard and have to schedule hair appointments around too much to waist my time. I dont mind paying good money if I feel like Im getting my moneys worth and no $15 for a quiz and $85 to have my hair wrapped around rollers and sat under the dryer when that set isnt even going to last more that a week (because yes I will wash my hair). Its over priced and not worth it. Sorry. I tried but if there is one thing I hate is having my time and money wasted and being disappointed.

Today, I came into Tajis Natural Hair Salon expecting to get a "designer cut" from Brittney at 11:30am. Very sweet and bubbly girl but needless to say, she does not pay attention to her clients desires AT ALL. First, I told Brittney that I didnt exactly know how I wanted my hair cut, but I wanted to have a versatile part because I wear my hair on various sides. I also informed her that I thought the bottom of my hair was too long and I wanted that cut somewhat and maybe get my hair shaped without cutting a lot of my hair off. She even voiced to me that "we dont want to take a lot off". So from that statement alone, I thought we had a mutual understanding of how I wanted my hair. Well, sadly to say, she did the complete opposite. She told me she was going to cut the bottom of my hair to my shoulders, which I agreed to. Instead she cuts my hair close to my ears. I have a haircut that severely resembles Side Show Bob from the Simpsons. In fact, his hair looks better than mine. SAD. Towards the end of the appointment, I let her know how dissatisfied I was with the outcome. She then tells me she was evening out my hair. Nowhere in our conversation did I say I wanted my hair evened out.Ever. Nor did she discuss this with me. Now, there is no way for me to wear my part any way I want, I can only wear it to the left because my hair on the right side is totally shorter than the left. I had a head full of hair that easily went past my bra-strap. Now, I have no options to play with different hair styles whatsoever. Not even a ponytail. Brittney has a lot of personality and is sweet but I really wish she had paid attention to my hair and styled it the way I wanted it. Instead, she had her own agenda and styled my hair the way she saw fit. This is extremely unacceptable and traumatic for me.
