Writing this just to make others aware that if you are used to beating the traffic of a long trip and getting to OBX early, you are in for a long wait to check-in. We arrived at 10:30am, knowing we couldnt get in, but busied ourselves with shopping, lunch and the beach. There is a guaranteed check-in of 6pm. But when a storm rolled in at 3:30pm we simply parked in the driveway of the home and threw football and ate a picnic lunch in the rain. The cleaning lady left at 4pm. We were then rudely told by the office that we needed to pack up 3 cars worth of wet people and stuff for the inspector to simply walk into the house to inspect. We were offered a park to play at (for teenagers), ice pops and an arcade to busy ourselves. I dont know about you, but having a wet, sandy filled car and 6 miserable kids, none of these options are pleasurable. After packing up and driving to a pizza shop to now use our budgeted one night out meal the very first day on PIZZA, it was LITERALLY less then 20 minutes when we were told we could get in the house. But it was in the agreement, so I get that. But the worse part was it was turned around on us and they tried to say the inspector probably skipped the house all day because we were parked there, but we knew that not to be the case because the cleaning lady had just left. Ridiculous. We have rented in OBX for over 15yrs and have never been told we couldnt park at the house especially after being in the area for over 5 hours. We were all happy as clams waiting patiently until we needed to pack up the cars and vacate the area for a total of 25 minutes. FYI

Rented the "Thomas" cottage on Dunes Drive. Perhaps this was an older cottage, but it is in serious need of some updating and maintenance. One of the few in the area with ground floor occupancy, and it smelled musty and dirty down there. A lot of minor things show the age of this place, including spray-painted areas of ceiling tile which appear to cover previous water stains, an air conditioning vent that was hanging loose, raised nails on carpet thresholds at bedroom doors, filthy blinds in downstairs, mold on tub/shower caulking. Many cheap hasty repairs throughout. When we arrived, the kitchen floor was not very clean, many dishes were dirty, the grill had old meat stuck to it, and several light bulbs were burnt out. They brought over a few, but had to leave to get more, only to never return with them. The DVD player upstairs also did not work. It had rained a lot for a few days prior to our arrival, and the water table was up. This resulted in an overfull septic tank, which rendered the downstairs toilet unusable, unless we plunged it. They recommended we take showers in the outdoor shower, which was fine to a point, except you are showering in the dark with mosquitos biting you. They were going to have the tank pumped, but apparently could not get it arranged in time. We are trying to get a partial refund for having to deal with this. Overall I was not happy with the house nor Midgett Realty in general. Perhaps they have other nicer houses, but this was not one of them.

Be very careful if you go through Midgett Realty. When we arrived after a 12 hour drive we had to wait because our property, Fair Winds, was not ready. We were told that the floor of the main bathroom was being replaced but when we arrived the whole place smelled like a dirty bathroom and the floor was just plywood and nails with some dirty rugs on top. When we complained we were told it was "usable" and would not be fixed for us and no refund. The property manager could have cared less and this was the most frustrating part. She did not call back on Monday as promised, or Tuesday, or ever. I had had the reservation since February and we had paid $2200.00 for the week. Midgett Realty should not be in the vacation business because they do not care about their clients. I found from other renters that they have had the same problem with Midgett Realty and I was not surprised. I will not rent from Midgett again.

We rented a very expensive home in Hatteras for the week and when we arrived one of the beds had a broken frame, the phone didnt work and they were lacking cleaning supplies. For instance an broom but no dust pan...Anyways the bed frame has yet to be fixed and we are on our final day, but thats not all! The dish washer and dryer broke on day 2 and neither have been repaired. The only communication we received was a note taped to the dishwasher stating it was broken. Be extremely careful renting from this group, my sense is that there are better options on the island.

We had a pair of white underwear left in the closet. We also found a tooth in the floor of one of the rooms. Shows how good they clean. We asked for the wifi password early in the week and left messages. Never heard back. We also wasnt given a key to the pool and had to drive all the way there. At least they told us they were sorry when we expressed our concerns.

We rented a Pet friendly house to take our (hypoallergenic) puppy. My Dad is severely allergic to pet dander and I was really concerned. The house was great! Super clean, my Dad felt fine and I am so happy we rented with Midgett Realty. I look forward to many summers here in OBX and Midgett Realty will definetly be the first place I look.

Always been very pleased with our stays in their properties. Great selection and helpful staff! Had a key mix up one year and the staff personally drove to Avon and back to resolve the situation after hours! Couldnt ask for better southern hospitality!

The office staff was very friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to find us the perfect house. Our house was clean and hot tub perfect working order. We would definitely use Migett REALTY home rentals on our next visit to Waves!

We went to Avon, Midget Realty... POOR ATTITUDE. Check in time was 3-5. Was not ready till 4:50. They said check in time means not guaranteed till 5. Never was niceto us, never apologized for any inconvenience.

Very helpful staff, with lots of advice about stuff in the area. (I also love that theyre a dropoff point for the local food pantry, for when you have stuff after a vacation that you dont want to go to waste.)

Worst rental agency ever experienced. Handled hurricane Irene in the interest of money and not what was practical and ethical! Renters beware!!!!!!! Had great service from Sun and Stan White Realty.
