Dont be fooled by the good reviews. In October of 2015 my fiancé and I took our vehicle here to be repaired. The day we had our car towed here we spoke with Ed and told him what was going on and also that we would need our car back by the end of the following week to get us to Detroit and back. He assured us that our car would be fixed in no time. They correctly diagnosed our car as having a rotted subframe & said that it was a common problem with our make and model but that it wouldnt be a problem to fix and theyd get us a good deal on the cost. They had our vehicle a total of 11 days, literally finishing it the day before we had to leave out of town. Every day we called for updates and every day they said they would call us back with more info but we never spoke with them unless we called them. It wasnt until about 8/9 days after our car was taken to their shop when they even started to fix it and provide us with info. The day we went to pick up our car we took it for a test drive and immediately noticed that it was driving funny and making weird clunking and crunching sounds from the drivers side front tire area which it had never done before. We spoke with them about this and they assured us it was just noise and nothing more. The next day we load our car up and get ready to head out of town, our car doesnt start & we had to get a jump from someone. Once the car was up and running we got on the highway and as soon as we hit 60mph our car was jerking and swerving all over the place. It was extremely scary and we were forced to go home and miss our trip. We called them the following day and went in and had one of their mechanics go for a drive with us. My fiancé took him on the highway and he also noticed the car was jerking and swerving. He said it was the bushings and that he would fix it no problem. Well they didnt "fix" anything as a week later our car began having the same issue. After going through all of the trouble with them we decided to take our vehicle elsewhere. We spent $700 at S and H for a crap job and crap parts. Not only did we have to pay for an entirely new subframe a second time around, because they gave us a crappy one that wasnt installed properly, we also had to have our sway bar replaced and control arms which they failed to diagnose. The mechanic at the other shop told us he had no idea how we had even driven our vehicle to them without getting into an accident & informed us that our subframe wasnt even attached to our vehicle- that our car was literally just sitting on top of it and thats how it was held together! After getting my vehicle properly repaired, it has had no issues since and has driven safely and smoothly! I feel that S and H Auto took on a job they knew they couldnt properly complete and instead of being honest about it decided it was okay to take our money and leave us with an unsafe vehicle. Please dont be fooled by all of the good reviews like we were, they are truly a shady company and your vehicle will be safer in the hands of another mechanic.

I live in Cleveland and my daughter is a student at the University of Akron (go Zips). My wife gave her our 2001 Chevy Tracker so she would have wheels to get back and forth to school on the weekends. One Monday I got a text from the U of A "daddy my brakes dont work" so rather than tow the car 30 miles north I researched auto repair shops near campus. Well S & H Auto Repair came up near the top on several sites including Google Maps and they were less than a mile away from where the car was. So I called Ed - he was professional and informative on the phone so I made an appointment for the following Saturday. Early Saturday, my daughter and I nursed the car down Spicer Street to S & H. The outside of the place wont win awards for style - but hey its an auto shop. Going inside is a different story: Ed is at the counter with the customer in front of us - demonstrating the same professional manner as I experienced on the phone. He gets to us - remembers our phone conversation - takes our keys - barks out a few orders to one of the guys and tells us it may take them a few hours to figure out what is wrong with the car. So I asked " should we come back on Monday? NO - Ed says - come back in a few hours when we call you and tell you its done. Well I am floored! What great service! So we go off to get some breakfast and 3 hours later Ed calls - the car is ready. The bill was very reasonable to top it all off. Wish I could give S & H a higher rating than 5 stars!

I rarely write reviews and Ive never written one for a mechanic, however because a good, HONEST and reasonable shop is so hard to find I felt obligated to pass on the word when I did find one. They did a great job and were way more reasonable than any other shop in the area. They didnt suggest anything unnecessary and even dropped my car off to me so that I didnt have to cab it to the shop. I will always use them!!! If another shop asks you to review them before theyve even worked on your car or offers you a free loner if you get the work done with them.. BEWARE. Dont be fooled by some of the other shops in the area with reviews almost too good to be true, they are! I need my car for work as most people do and I needed it fixed asap, Im so happy I found S&H, I called in the morning and they had it ready before lunch. Ed is trustworthy and really works with you. If youre looking for a great shop with honest people this is the place to go!

I am a UA student who is not from the Akron area and usually go to a mechanic when I visit my parents at home. When my car started making a terrible noise (like I was riding a rollercoaster up a big hill) I panicked, thinking the wheel bearing had gone loose. I went to the closest auto repair shop to UAs main campus, afraid that if I went to far my wheel would fall off. I went to S&H Auto Repair a little worried about going to a new car mechanic, but this shop now has a new customer for life. An aluminum sheet underneath my car had fallen down and was sitting on the axle, making a terrible noise. The guys at S&H took it out and fixed my car for FREE since it was such a small, simple issue. They didnt try to sell me parts I didnt need, diagnosed the issue quickly, and were just very nice people overall. 100% would recommend this shop to anyone in the Akron area.
