catch 22
Summary: 1. Swim lesson are highly dependent on the instructor 2. Program supervisor is not all that responsive 3. Concerns about the physician structure of the faculity Details below: 1. This is, in my opinion, among the worst fitness centers in terms of some instructors for swim lessons, and for general membership value. Specifically - Swim instructor M. Davis appears apathetic and de energized. I notice very little actual instruction during lessons - such as actual "how to" pull correctly with your arms during swimming, placement of your head for breathing, etc. In contrast, there is another class being run at the same time by an older female instructor (whos name i do not know) who appears to be doing everything right. Instructs by example, enthusiastic, hand on to teach. Advice - If you are going to sign your child up for lessons here, look into which teacher you would be assigned. Perhaps go observe some classes before signing up. 2. Secondly, We had not had good experiences with the one of the program organizers (J Larkin). There have been some programs we had signed up for and paid for that were not run due to low enrolment. Ms. Larkin has been slow to either find a replacement program or refund our payment to the time frame in months after numerous reminders. This, in my opinion, is a sign of someone who is a-at least - perhaps disorganized, and possibly even apathetic. 3. This is the only public use building I can recall that has wood trim and poor landscaping. As a sign of concern, Im wondering the financial security of LeftCenter Plus, given the poor upkeep of the landscaping (notice the numerous weeds!) and the use of wood trim, in need of a good coat of staining. What public building uses such maintenance intensive trim? Landscaping and upkeep budgets are usually first to be cut in budget tightening. Is the poor physical condition of what the public can see is a sign of deeper financial problems?

All in all, Im pretty disappointed in this gym. For what you pay, you expect more. Life Center is almost 3-5 times more than other, newer gyms in the area. For starters, the elliptical machines in their environmentally controlled room have had problems for more than a year. Either the TVs dont work, the sound doesnt work, or the mechanics of the machine themselves arent smooth. This isnt new. This has been a problem for a year. Pads on equipment that has ripped arent replaced in a timely manner. (How hard is it to order a new pad and attach it to a leg raise / dip station?) Newer equipment, like kettle balls, remain locked, only for use with a personal trainer. And youve got to hope that the hot tub works or isnt cold. Then in the mens locker room, the hamper is broken. Really? You cant afford $5 at Big Lots to buy a new hamper? Then the really rich part, if you want to bring your kid, theyre going to charge you even more. We pay $100 a month to be a member at this gym, but I get better equipment at Fitness 19 or Fitworks for $10 a month. Sure the sauna and hot tub are nice (when theyre on or working), but is it really worth an extra $90 a month?

(Try LA Fitness, customer is always right with them. They have more gyms, and FAR more customers for a reason.) TERRIBLE! Equipment is almost ALWAYS broken, staff is unemotional and not helpful(unless you pay a personal trainer), AND they will bill you past your membership... and if you ask for a refund for any reason they basically say (slightly exaggerated) "I know it doesnt seem fair, but the 30 page thing you signed says XYZ, go @$!# yourself." Absolute garbage business model. I moved a long time ago, and they STILL bill me. DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE STUCK WITH IT. THEY just called ME and in that conversation I was told by a top employee, "you arnt being very professional". This is beyond insulting. Im being treated as a second class citizen because I just want them to stop billing me. I guess thats why theres only one lifecenter plus(because they probably couldnt expand if they wanted to)

I have been a member of a number of gyms including The Natatorium, Fitworks, Kent Recreation Center, and Fitness 19. There just is no comparison to how Life Center Plus "feels" compared to these other gyms. Life Center Plus is layed back, never uncomfortably crowded, people are friendly, and it offers so many classes and opportunities to work on ones well being. I have never felt out of place or unwelcome. My children have taken swim lessons and tried Karate. I have a trainer, whom I absolutely love, and I have tried Aqua and land Zumba. If you are looking for a family friendly facility where you can feel at home, this is the place. Another nice thing is that they provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner which make it super easy to decide to swim and not have to go through a big packing ordeal! For me, its been worth the price.

My husband and I joined LifeCenter Plus in September, 2011. We carefully researched many gyms in the area that also offered pools (I love to swim), and LifeCenter was just the best of the best. We LOVE it and work out 3-4 times a week. The facility has just about everything you could want to exercise. There are many classes, all kinds of well-maintained equipment, its really your choice and your fitness levels, but youll find it here. People are friendly and the vibe here is really welcoming. The locker rooms are clean, and there are so many amenities - steam room, spas, sauna, toiletries, hair dryers, fresh towels, etc. The pools are superior and I cannot say enough good things about LifeCenter Plus - its been one of the best decisions weve made for our health!!!!

I have been a member at LifeCenter Plus since 1994. Its where my kids learned to swim. They actually have 5 swimming pools -- My favorites are the large 25 meter pool with lap lanes and the warm water pool with a lazy river indoors. Oh yeah and the whirlpool! I love being part of their Spinning program -- going from being nervous about even walking into the class, to now one of the regulars in the group. I also like working out on the ellipticals but I end up watching TV instead of pushing myself! Yoga, Zumba, aerobics classes and even the travel group -- Ive tried a lot of different activities there -- but with hundreds of free classes every month, its easy not to get bored with the same old workout routine.

The facility is decent and the staff helpful. THe equipment is well maintained. The large group work out area is in the center with no walls so the music is often upbeat, jazzercise and blasted pretty loud which is annoying for anyone not in the class. Also their pricing structure is very confusing, where one month you have an initiation fee, another month you dont, one price for prime time, another price for off peak, existing members rarely get savings where new members get perks, passes, and reduced rates. Simplifying the pricing and taking care of your current customers would go a long way. Signed, Member for 3 years

Was a member here for about 3.5 years. My contract was only 12 months but continued to use the gym. We cancelled when we switched our billing and they did not accept Amex. Then about 3 months later i get a letter saying we owed them about $400, now today I get a letter from a collection agency saying we owe almost $800. The gym was purchased out of bankruptcy and there was always issues. You could count on the steam room and the hot tub to be down at least once a week and after a flood, there was always a mildew smell. They seem desperate for money now.
