Been at LA Fitness in Ocoee for about 8 months and although the place needs some updating it has always had everything I need for my workouts. All of the instructors Ive had were nice. Unfortunately thats about all the good I can say. At times the sauna was out of order and when it was finally back in service it still didnt work properly and barely got hot. The pool was cold and made it difficult for some of the elderly that attended the water aerobics classes. Some of the staff just sat around talking most of the time, and it was usually the same people, but my main complaint is the lack of responsibility and dedication they put into their Kids Klub since their management changed. I had 3 issues in less than 3 weeks with the Kids Klub. The first issue was when I was working out longer than usual and was there for an hour and 45min. When I picked up my 2 children my son was crying and the girl working told me he had been for 20min. My daughter then told me he had been crying for a long time calmed himself down and then started crying again. I soon found out that he had soiled himself and no one came to get me so that I could change him. He was clean when I dropped him off but by the time I changed him he had a horrible rash and it was BLEEDING. I was so upset but kept my cool. The girl said she didnt have anyone to come get me. Im not sure how many kids were with just the 1 staff as I was upset and didnt think to check. I talked to the staff on hand since the manager was gone for the night and he didnt even want to make eye contact with me and told me he would pass the info along. The next morning I went in and talked to the manager and he already knew what was going on. He handled the situation well.....I thought at the time. He talked to the girl and went over her training on what to do. I was informed by him that she was afraid to ask for help and also during that conversation I found out she was a prior employee of a daycare. This shocked me but then I realized she probably was afraid to ask for help seeing that the employees she was working with were less than helpful and acted like the Kids Klub was completely separate and they werent responsible to help when they needed. I called corp. just so they had the incident on file. The next week I had my kids with me again and I dropped them off and watched for a bit. No problem until I picked them up and there was only 1 staff and 19 kids which included 2 infants. I called corp. again and they told me to see if anyone goes in to help, which they did. Sad that it took a call to corp. for them to do their job. Ratio is supposed to be 10:1. A few days later I thought Id try bringing the kids again and when I arrived they were already over ratio with 24 kids and 1 staff not including my 2 kids if I were to have left them. I asked if anyone else was coming to help and she said no. I asked why when she was over ratio and she said it was fine that I could still leave my kids. That was the last straw. I cancelled my membership because I was afraid that something could possibly happen to my children or someone elses due to not being properly supervised. I dont understand why some people can be so carefree when supervising children. All the background checks and training still didnt make a difference at this location. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Im writing this oh so long review so it will maybe help other parents out there. Especially since i found out gym kid centers are not state regulated here in Florida.

Ive been a member for 4 months now and while I do not see the "filthiness" of the gym, I do see a lack of concern by the employees. I am happy there because I come to work out, lose weight, and get healthier. I dont care about the socialization aspects. However, I truly wish the staff would be more diligent and care rather than be on their cell phones all the time or talking amongst themselves. Never does anyone say "hello" (I have to be the one to say it) and only one young man says...."have a great workout." The rest never even give you eye contact. Also, I have come from previous gyms and they were caring enough to walk the floor, checking for equipment being misused, people leaving free weights on the floor and not putting them back, and making certain customers arent endlessly and loudly talking on their cell phones which is very disturbing and breaks my concentration. The staff would communicate to the customer in a respectful way to please put back weights, phones, etc. I waited 25 minutes for a machine I wanted to use (I worked on other things while waiting) while the man simply sat there and talked on his cell phone. He never once used the equipment. He made one call after another. Where was the staff to ask him to please take his calls into the lobby or outside?? He was loud. I just simply want them to care about what they are doing and about each of us that comes into that gym. If it were not for our memberships, they would not be there. There would be no gym, no need for employees. As much as I am satisfied, I do wish they would get newer equipment. Ive been to other LA Fitness locations and Ocoees equipment is extremely outdated. We would appreciate it.

This gym is okay. The equipment is decent and clean, and I like that it doesn't get crowded during lunch time. I don't like that there are no fans at this location. Also, I had a terrible experience cancelling my membership. I called the first week of October to cancel, the girl on the phone talked me into freezing my account instead until my schedule frees up. I agreed to this and found out $40 (4 weeks) later when I called back to see why I was still being charged, that they can't freeze weekly memberships. That's okay, except the girl on the phone told me it was handled and acted like she knew what she was doing. So, I ask them to cancel my membership for good. I asked them to fax me the form, and she said to not worry about it and that she would "handle" it. Sure enough another 2 weeks and $20 later I call to see why they are STILL charging me. They then tell me that you have to go in person to cancel, which is fine but why did they tell me 2 weeks prior that I didn't have to come and they would handle it? Again... they make you believe it is handled until you see your credit card bill. So, I go in to the building, stand there for 2 minutes as the dork types something and hands me a piece of paper. Done. Now I'm "officially" cancelled, and they refunded me $10 of the $60 charged. I had no problem coming and doing it in person, but they assured me over the phone that it was taken care of, and that makes me believe they do this on purpose to squeeze every penny out of you. Very sad, and I will never join another LA fitness again.
