I joined Planet Fitness almost 2 years ago. My wife and I just had a son in May of 2015. I had to make a lot of changes in regards to my lifestyle to set the right example for him. I also wanted to look and feel better for my own self esteem. On top of that I have bipolar disorder. It took a while but at that point I was finally on the right combination of medicines to stabilize me which I have been stable for a little over 2 years now. I found that working out addresses all 3 of these things. 1. By going to the gym I set a good example for my children. 2. I feel better about myself 3. The gym is medicine for the mind and body. If you are struggling or need to get back in the gym...whatever the reason might be...this is a great place to go. Its $10 a month. Thats a pretty small investment into something so important (health). Its not the price that makes this a great place though. Its what you cant put a price on. The people. The people that work at this gym are genuinely good people. I sometimes go to the other planet fitness in my area and the people are very nice there as well but at this place I feel at home. From the people that work there to the members, I have met so many people. Its not that I go there to socialize. Most conversations last from 1-3 min or even just a fist bump and "whats up? How you doin?" The gym is clean and has a lot of equipment. Truthfully if you are someone that needs dumbbells over 75 LBS, dont want to use a Smith machine for bench press, and need to scream (which is all good to me personally) then this gym isnt for you. Thats not to say members arent serious about working out. Many are and many arent in all honesty. You 100% can find some success here. When I started coming 2 years ago, I was 240 LBS at 60 tall and mostly fat. I lost the weight over about a 6-7 month period. I got down to 190 LBS. Then I was able to put 35 LBS of muscle on over the last year and a half. Im now 225 LBS and about 12-13% body fat. Is this a magic place that these kind of results just happen by coming a few times a week and jogging on the treadmill? No. You have to sacrifice and bust your ass to transform. You dont have to do all that just to look better and feel better though. Whatever your goals are, I can testify this is a great place to get it done.

The gym itself is smelly, and unfriendly. It is dark and damp. You almost feel like being friendly with out members is frowned upon. However, we waited out the year contract (even though we stopped going). Called and spoke with employee two months before the year contract was due to expire, to be informed on how to cancell or NOT renew membership correctly so that there would be NO problems. We followed the instructions. Starting a week after we went into the gym to cancel, and sign NOT renewing paperwork, Planet Fitness started to charge our account daily, sometimes 3 times a day in various monetary increments. The increments varied from 12.00 to 56.00 dollars! This went on for 3 weeks! It was flagged by our bank, but one or two of them got thru which is why we learned what was going on! When we called planet fitness, the assistant manager told my husband we never canceled and to manage our money more efficiently and have a good day, and then hung up on him!!!! Our bank and the local police are now handling the situation for us, but we had to go out of our way and cancel our account which froze our money for a couple days. The police and bank are now handling it so that is a relief.

Is what it is. They explained everything. So far theyve been true to their word. I find a couple of things hilarious in these reviews. First: People complaining about odor in a place where people come to sweat? Get real. A ridiculous assertion when looking at it published. Secondly: They dont appreciate real athletes? Ummm, are they supposed to worship you? PF knows the market they want to get and they apparently succeed in doing so. They dont want the mentality that comes with most gym memberships. For anyone to complain about the things their representatives told you up front is ludicrous. Heres whats to like about it: if youre doing cardio, there are enough machines here to get your workout and get out. Not everyone has two hours to wait around like I often had to at another gym in the area when I went there at 8 a.m. The machines are rarely broken and when they are, theyre repaired quickly. My only problem: not enough recumbent stationary bikes. The staff is generally friendly. If you want a place with 20 tons of free weights, go elsewhere (something they tell you).

The new trainer name Lloydann is not a people person , she thinks everyone mind is alike.lam in my early sixtys ,I dont catch on like everyone else.for instant I forgot my paper, when I came in I told her. She ramble off the equipment I needed, didnt try to show me how to use it, to be on the safe side. She said nothing , but continued working on the computer, and didnt attempt to help me or show me what to do or how to do it.I wasnt happy at all.l"am trying to make up my mind if I"am going back or cancel my membership, and go elsewhere.

They discourage people who are serious about their workout from coming here with their lack of free-weights and limited size dumbbells. The company preys upon people that are going to sign up for a membership, work out for a couple days, then never show up again. In the meantime, they promote a "judgement free" atmosphere that is actually the exact opposite. They severely judge anybody who goes there for an actual workout rather than slowly sauntering on a treadmill for an hour.

We paid extra for the black card membership not realizing its a year contract. If you try to get out of it itll cost you about $60. Worst gym Ive ever been a member of, bigger isnt always better. The staff picks on the real athletes in there. They gave me crap about wearing an athletic skull cap to keep my long hair out of my face. I wore it in there at least a dozen times before they said something. They lose customers for creating issues out of things that arent issues.

This place is perfect for people of all ages. If you dont want to share weights or dont like the vastness of the free weights, which is extremely varied...then dont pay the economical $10/Month. Please if you feel that you need 100 pound dumb bells you dont need a gym, you need a better hobby. Also, anyone complaining about the gym being too small or overly crowded should not be a gym member.

I called Planet Fitness to see if I could come in for a tour and free workout, part of any introduction to a new gym. I was told the price for a one-time workout is $21.00. Now if you see their sign outside, youll notice they charge $10/month, plus an annual $29. My $21 is half of the start up fees. Ridiculous. Not a good way to do business.
