Dingy Gym with obnoxious employees. So well start with the bad. This will take a while. This 24 Hour Fitness has all the environmental warmth and appeal of an underground parking garage. It. Is. Ugly. Everything is black, white, gray and metallic, with horrible and unflattering fluorescent lighting. The flooring is this ugly, black rubberized something or another that is worn ragged in many places. I dont know why they chose to have white equipment if they were never going to wash it. Almost all the upstairs equipment is caked in dirty/sticky grime, not the pads and parts you touch at least, but still... A couple of the machines I used were in disrepair. One had a somewhat alarming improvised fix that didnt seem secure at all. The 2 rowing machines they have are ancient. One has a broken sensor, so is really no fun to use, the other has parts of the handle coming off of it. This is an easy and cheap fix, so it shows how much they are paying attention to their equipment. The attendants seemed annoyed to have to deal with me, and literally shouted over my shoulder to their dude bro friends while working with me. They should probably hire a couple women to nice-up the place and teach them manners. I didnt see any female employees during my 3 visits. This place is kind of expensive, with "initiation fees." Which I think are bull. $30 a month + a $60 fee for having the privilege of dealing with their delightful staff! There are at least 5 gyms within a 5 mile radius of me, not including this one. 4 of them are less expensive than 24 hour fitness. I am touring all the gyms in my area, and this is the worst so far. There is no towel service... Workout Anytime which only charges $15 a month has free towel service, so I have no idea why this mega gym cant manage one. There are no good places to set anything -- no cubbies or tables to put your water bottle or towel as you work your way through the machines. The Good: There is a very wide variety of equipment. I easily found everything I am accustomed to using, and I had no problems with my height over-extending the machines. A problem I often have. There is a delightful variety of people that attend this gym. Individuals at various levels of health and fitness. So you have a couple guys to inspire you with their impressive muscles, but you also have chubby and old people so you dont have to feel too bad if you dont have those muscles. Very diverse mix of races too. People watching here is pretty fun. This 24 has a lot of features. Cycling room, dance room, pool, basketball court, and probably a couple others I didnt notice and wont get to try before Im done with my guest membership. In closing, I cannot recommend this gym. Not unless one is really going to make use of all its features, or at least maybe, if one is in need of its less common amenities, like the pool or dance room? Go somewhere else, pay less, and get a more pleasant experience for your money.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a fan of 24-Hour Fitness, just not this particular facility that is presently poorly managed. My feedback is not my opinion, but fact. Simply stated, this location is not up to the standard of quality of other locations operated by the company. There are frequently things that break down in the club, such 5-7 Stairmasters inoperable at any given time, drinking fountains, cedar planks/fence in the sauna, gate leaving the women’s locker room, burned out light bulbs, broken hair dryers, overall cleanliness, etc that would (should) be repaired or addressed within hours or days, but at this facility remain neglected for months. Maintenance is a noticeable problem at this particular location. When I first joined this club in 2008 there was a noticeable commitment to high standards. For example, it was common to see employees routinely clean the facility at any given time. This practice is not commonly seen at this location. On 4/27/10, one of their employees was actually having a conversation on his cell phone while going to the bathroom and flushing the toilet. If that was not bad enough, he then walked out of the bathroom and back into the club without washing his hands. While it is true that this particular incident represents one individual and therefore should not necessarily represent the entire 24-Hour Fitness brand, it does speak to the lack of commitment that is given overall to this clubs quality, hygiene and cleanliness. After all, if their employees are not event trained to wash their hands after going to the bathroom, how can I trust that the pool, whirlpool, showers and other publicly shared areas are clean? If simple maintenance of the club such as changing a light bulp or replacing broken planks of cedar in the sauna go neglected for weeks on end, how can I trust that maintenance of equipment is safe? The answer is: I do not trust this club as it is presently managed.

I live close to this gym and its my "home gym." I used to live in Oregon City and used the Clackamas 24-Hour or the 24-Hour on Milwaukie Ave in Portland (by my work). I use this facility often. Comparing these three facilities, here are my thoughts on the Beaverton location: • Staff and trainers are extremely friendly and helpful. • Manager (I dont know his name; tall thin guy, dark hair, balding) is kind of a jerk. Very unfriendly and seems mean to the staff. • Equipment is repaired - usually, but not always - in a reasonable time. But the fact that the equipment is in disrepair so often leads me to think that some of the equipment simply needs to be replaced. The one exception is the broken drinking fountain on the second floor which has been broken for at least two weeks without being fixed. Thats just too long to leave something unrepaired. • Cleanliness is where things really fall down. This facility gets a lot of use; but so did all of the other 24-Hours that Ive been to. But none seem to be as consistently unclean. Id have rated this facility higher if not for this reason alone. I get that its a gym, but cleanliness isnt just about keeping the place from being smelly; its about ensuring colds, flu, and other communicable illnesses arent spread from person to person. 24-Hour Fitness typically does a great job in most every facility Ive been to. Now that the Beaverton location is my home gym, Id appreciate a cleaner place to work out. Beyond that, staff is friendly and the facility has all the equipment I need and like to use.

I like the layout where there is the cardio on the lower level and the weight machines on the upper level, but they need to get better at fixing their cardio equipment. There are at lease 10 treadmills broken at all times which can be a big problems since most people go for those over the other equipment. There are always other cardio equipment broken, but it is more reasonable then how ridiculous the treadmills are. As for the treadmills that do work, most of them are not in the best of condition. Some of them sound like you are breaking them as you just walk on them, and I am only 138... There is always at least one TV not working and for a few days not one of the TVs were working... You have to use the wireless devices attached to the equipment to hear the TVs and probably 1/3rd of them do not work. As for the weight selection, it is all pretty decent. There is obviously better quality and newer equipment being used at other 24 hour fitnesss, but the weights here are more than adequate. They are doing a good job at re-arranging it upstairs to make it a more pleasant and easy place to work out in. 24 hour fitness needs to do a little sharing with their funds... The one on Murray never has any equipment broke and have their cardio machines have their own TVs! And because of it, they are WAY overly packed in most of the day which makes it hard to find equipment there. If they were both well taken care of, maybe it would help the one on Murray not be so packed out all the time.
