I LOVE this place. More than chicken and mashed potatoes; more than free public transit days; more than hiking in the misty Forest Park; more than wine--- actually, whoa, lets not get carried away. Seriously however, I am a new resident to Portland and thus of course, finding a new stylist, etc., is a very anxiety-driven process. So, I checked out Yelp, found Appel Nouveau, woman-owned hair boutique, and then rest is history. I receive fantastic cuts and colors from Meghan Ellis, a very talented stylist, who is also incredibly communicative, friendly, and funny, and uses all these elements like super powers to leave me and my hair happy. She listens to your needs, understands what will look good and what wont, and has a wonderful handle on her color skills. Basically, I will never let her out of my sight. The salon itself is small and unassuming, but its very homey, and everyone who works there (shout out to lovely Kate--rock that front window, girl; and fabulous Austin--I listen to your voicemail appt. reminders TWICE--dont be weird-ed out) is super duper nice, helpful, and provide excellent customer service. Its like a fun bar you go to where the bartender knows your drink and somewhat of your lifes business (or maybe thats because I yell out my personal drama over the sound the hairdryer and everyone within a two block radius knows my pathetic dating history). The prices, from my experience with different stylists in different states, are competitive, and if you know this, you will not be shocked when you check out. They have some products on hand for purchase, but I would love a bit more of a rotation of these items to keep the options fresh (HINT!) Highly recommended salon if you are new to the area and panicked over needing a new hair counselor, or just need a new place. Street parking in NW, but a few blocks off the streetcar, or right off the 77 bus. Freaky-deaky bar across the street to get drunk in and show off your new hair. Or just wave from across the street where its safe.

You wrote a review for Appel Nouveau Salon One minute ago 4.0 star rating 7/7/2017 I recently moved to Portland from Denver, CO and needed to find a new hair salon and stylist - which is always scary especially since I went to a fabulous place in Denver and was extremely happy with my stylist there. After doing some research I decided to try Appel Nouveau Salon and have since seen Meghan twice for color and a cut. Ive been very satisfied on both visits - she listened to what I wanted regarding my color which came out great. She was also great with my hair cut - or I should say my desire to keep it simple since Im an avid cyclist and runner and pull my hair back a lot. While the salon is much smaller than Im used to, I actually loved how theyve gotten me in and out of there on time, I love the location, and Meghan and the staff are quite personable. Ive already made my next/3rd appt. :)

I have been getting my hair done by Kirsten for years. Not only does she make my color and cut beautiful, but its actually healthy and shiny too! Being that I like to be very blonde, thats tough to do. Everyone at the salon makes me feel so welcome and relaxed when Im there. Never any attitudes, just pure friendly, adorable and stylish people. I also brought my kids there for back to school haircuts. Anna is so sweet and did an awesome job! My daughter was thrilled with her cut and style. One of the best things about the salon though is the welcoming receptionist, Verushka. Always brings me a glass of wine and makes my experience wonderful! I would recommend the salon to anyone needing a cut or color! Men, women and children. Thanks ladies!

New to Portland, decided to make appointment for color and cut with Appel Nouveau based on the good reviews. Meghan did a good job on the color, but I was not satisfied with cut. I have fine, wavy to curly hair and since my back was to the mirror, I did not realize that she was using thinning scissors to cut out the bulk. This is a no no for people with fine curly hair. She styled my hair by straightening it, so I did not realize the bad haircut until later. Meghan should have taken the time to cut with more precision instead of taking the easy and faster way by using thinning shears.

Best hair balayage, treatment and style eveeerrrr!!!!! I have lived in Portland over 10 years and have been in a constant search of someone that can understand my hair, which very is curly and long. I found some places that could cut it but could not style it or vice versa. My search finally ended when I met Meghan at Appel Nouveeau, she did an aazing job with the balayage, intense treatment and style. y hair has never looked so good "straight".
