The building is light and airy, it always feels welcoming and clean. The main floor supports the salt-water pool and jacuzzi, sales offices, kids club and locker rooms. Haven’t used the kids club or the pool, but the locker room has been clean enough, there’s always enough lockers, plus a large sauna next to the showers is a great asset. The lower floor houses all of your typical cardio machines along with racquetball and basketball courts. The top floor has the rooms for classes plus all of the weight lifting equipment, nicely laid out by muscle group. Equipment has been clean and well maintained. Onto the classes- I can only comment on the Cycle and Cycle Zone classes, I’ve tried almost every time-slot and instructor and so far it’s been overall great, pushing me way harder than I could ever manage on my own. Elvia (5:45am) especially tries to make a personal connection with you which is appreciated. My only negative is I wish the room light could be a bit dimmer- that harsh fluorescent lighting early in the morning is kind of jarring...... Finally to the people, I like the members here- a little bit older, professional and respectful. It’s never been too crowded if you come in the mornings. Staff have all been good. Prices are competitive with the other corporate entity in the Pearl, but at LA you can have the option of a healthier pool experience, racquetball and towel service, I think good value for money.

LA Fitness in the Pearl is a very clean Gym. Its the first thing I noticed about the place. The locker rooms and the gym floor are spotless. And the many windows give the gym a clean open feel. The second thing I noticed about the place was its nice pool. Im an avid swimmer and its the main reason I joined LA Fitness. The previous reviewer seems to be overstating the obvious of most indoor pools. Sure the temp tends to be a warm but its winter for god sake! And, therell always be people at every pool who lack etiquette. Its certainly a 3 lane pool and not a 2 lane turned into a 3 lane pool as The Pearl Girl claims. Unless youre an oaf, the pool lanes are plenty wide for sharing. The pool area has a clean & open feel to it and I think its one of the best "Corporate Gym Pools" Ive ever swam in (swum, swimmed?). Ive heard the trainers and the sales people are a bit aggressive in their membership and personal training tactics but thats to be expected. This is what these people do for a living, give them a break. And lets not forget that were all paying the minimum amount for a gym membership. Otherwise wed be paying $100+ memberships for fancy soaps, lotions, towels, locker room lounges, and other luxuries. To all the haters I say, "Stop complaining and make the best of your budget gym memberships". In the end we all get what we pay for.

It is new, that is all this gym has going for it. The staff are unfriendly and clueless about anything having to do with fitness. Everything from the awful music to class schedules to turning on the lights in the classrooms is controlled through corporate. There is absolutely NO gym etiquette. People have no clue about how to "work in" with the weights or equipment. The "trainers" are rude and unprofessional. They have people doing step-ups on a cushioned flatbench. Not only is this disgusting since they do not wipe down the benches after people have their shoes all over them, it is also dangerous. The "trainers" train people in the middle of the staircase and are oblivious about people moving through the area. The pool is a joke. The water is too warm and the air temperature of the room is too warm. There is no pool etiquette. People will just dive into the pool while someone is swimming laps or just jump into a lane without announcing themselves. The pool is really a 2 land pool but LA Fitness made it a 3 lane pool by making the 2 lanes narrow. Each lane is less than 6 feet wide and they expect swimmers to share lanes. If you live in the area it is pretty much the only choice. The one pro is that every class I have taken has a high quality instructor. A real gym and a real aquatic center in this area is desperately needed.

I would honestly leave 5 stars, but there is a older women who works as trainer there who says some pretty messed things to try and get you to pay for physical trainer. I can tell that what she says is scripted, and she is pretty normalized to what she is saying. The following is paraphrased version of what she said after my "physical test". Fyi, im 27 yr old male, 59" 185, and I am in good shape. "Based on my calculations, I think we should get you on a plan to lose weight.....Five of your tests came up terrible...What do you think is going to happen in the next 5 years based on where you are at now? ....Do you take drugs?...I have seen it many times. .....It is time to get on your health now, before its too late....Sounds like you have a lot of excuses..." In the end, I would completely ignore the trainers calls and requests to get you in to do the test. I personally just need a place to work out, and dont need to be pestered every month to use a trainer, especially one who uses fear mongering tactics and naysaying in her sales pitch. Im sure some of the other trainers are decent, just watch out for the short haired, not so in shape, lip to breast implanted woman.

I wish I could say better things about LA Fitness in the Pearl. Aesthetically it very pleasing: new and diverse equipment, the workout area is bright and filled with natural light and everything is well spaced, staff is friendly and the price is good. However, etiquette and courtesy are foreign concepts to people here and the staff does nothing to enforce rules. People are allowed to hold machines by leaving bags and clothes on them, even during busy hours, weights are left on machines (even overnight) and equipment is thrown all over the gym, classes are changed or even cancelled without notice, and people seem to spend more time on their phones than working out....while taking up equipment. Courtesy and etiquette amongst members on the floor and enforcement by staff is worse than a gym I belonged to in Queens, NY of all places. A workout shouldnt be aggravating because of the actions of others but here it is. This could be a really good gym but management is seriously dropping the ball and turning it into a frustrating experience.

Convenient location. Excellent selection of equipment. Bright and airy interior. Friendly and helpful staff. However, the mens locker room is carpeted, hot, humid, and consistently smells horrible. Proper use of tile or rubberized flooring and some basic ventilation (a fan and strong dehumidifier) would solve the problem completely. The gym also appears to take a "no clean, no sanitize" policy towards the machines and weights (e.g. there are no spray bottles with disinfectant or any rags/towels to clean the machines or weights, but there are instead hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the gym). This is more than an aesthetic problem because busy gyms can spread pink eye, staff infections, Athletes Foot, colds, flu, stomach viruses, etc. Overall, this is a solid gym and its an excellent value, but the lack of cleanliness is takes it from five stars down to three.
