Great selection, neat museum, sub-par service. Firstly, my account was randomly deleted by their system, so I had to sign up again; Minor annoyance. Then, they wanted a $200 deposit for an out-of-print VHS movie. When they swiped my card for the $200 authorization, it sent it into fraud mode (absolutely no fault of my own). After spending 25 minutes chewing out my bank over the phone, I still couldnt get the block removed, so I had to go the ATM for the cash. All said and done, it took a full hour get the movie rented, so I half-jokingly asked them to hook me up with a free movie or something. I mean, account deleted, $200 deposit for a VHS movie, putting my card into fraud mode (major inconvenience)... the least they could have done was give me a free rental credit ($2.50 value) or a frigging piece of licorice. Instead, they actually had the nerve to imply that I was un-cool and that I had a bad attitude. It was the end of the night, and they were tired, so I suppose they thought that gave them the right to get a little grouchy. Well, guess what guys... I work nearly 60 hours a week between two jobs AND go to college. I work until 11 PM, then get up at 6:30 AM for the next job. I get to hear people shouting over the phone at me, and I treat them like gold. When Im trying to rent a movie and have a little R&R with my friends, during the precious little time I have off, I dont want to go to hell and back to rent a movie, then be treated rudely. While your selection rocks, Videoramas staff are easily 10x nicer. The employees there are good, quality, laid-back people, and I look forward to seeing them and having a little chat about film every time I go. I dont care how cool you guys think you are, or how fantastic your selection is, learn how to treat your customers! A little red vine can go a long way.

i went here today it was cool i was excited because i took my little brother and mother there to show them the things from movies and the selection of movies i thought you could buy any of the 8000 plus movies i picked out 3 titles 2 local wrestling dvds and silent night deadly night i understand why silent night deadly night is a rental but two dvds no-one has rented in years are for rent? it makes no sense i recommend them labeling there dvds rent or buy i would go back and buy a lot of dvds i have wanted over the years BUT you dont know if its a rent or buy dvd if they fix that and get employees who want to be there instead of seeming like do i really have to be here it would be a great place i feel a bit let down since the lady behind the counter was rather rude just wanted a credit card didnt offer me too buy the dvds (remember these are local professional wrestling dvds not WWE or any major company and they are from 2011) just went straight to the money shaking my head i will not be back unless im there to show off the collection of items they have but i wont do business here plus who really rents now days when you can buy dvds on your tv or craigslist cool little shop but needs too label there items better

Have rented from movie madness for around 12 years. Staff used to be wonderful but lately theyve been checked out and pretty much looking like theyd rather be anywhere but there, which is sort of a pain to deal with. One girl in particular was moving so slowly at the register, she seemed like she was about to fall asleep, I thought I was impatient but my friends both commented on it afterwards, she seemed almost high on something. Also, the staff used to be super chill, but in the past winter we had an experience where the cashier literally made us walk outside the store to get a copy of the Mercury and rip a coupon out of the back that they had posted digitally to their website (and, had in previous years allowed people to show digitally from their phones.) Its so archaic! I really dont want to come here and I hardly do these days, despite the selection being amazing and the interior of the store being super fun to look at. They need to make some changes if they want to stay afloat in this dying movie rental industry.

Possibly my favorite retail store of any kind anywhere. I can easily pass time looking for films Ive never seen, much less heard of - much like Powells, but for movies! Productions familiar only from a passing rumor amongst friends, the best of the best, the weirdest of the weird and everything in between - this place ROCKS. As an added bonus the place provides a Hollywood museum experience, thanks to an impressive amount of memorabilia - hard to choose a favorite, perhaps Marvins imploded ballistics gel head from Pulp Fiction, or the knife used in Hitchcocks Psycho? BRILLIANT in its execution, a great location on Belmont, and the employees are friendly and very knowledgeable. Portland has the best place ever for donuts, the best beer, food choice, weed, why not an epic place to rent your flicks? F*%K Netsux and Redcox. Go. NOW!

This is the best video store in the world. Period. While they dont have dozens of copies of the latest Hollywood blockbuster, they do have a huge selection of films you cant find anywhere else including Out-of-Print films that are not available anyplace else at any price, foreign films, cult films, alternative films, anime and Japanese monster movies, and even tons of classic TV, both American and British (yes, they have Doctor Who) in addition to a few copies all the normal Hollywood stuff. Oh yeah, thay also have all sorts of museum items such as a suit worn by Orsen Wells, the model time machine from The Time Machine, the knifes from Psycho and Scream, the payphone from Chinatown, a Yoda puppet, one of Darth Vaders helmets, various dresses from various movies... I could go on, or you could drop by and see it all for yourself.

The staff here are none the less what I expected from reviews, horrible. I almost walked out. Whoever runs this junk should invest in some new employees and would probably get more customers. With that being said the selection for vhs sucks i dont even know why they pronounce it and the price to rent a old piece of junk is just as rediculous, and from what I hear about the dvds 89% out of 100 are scratched or damaged to the fullest. I wouldnt be suprise if they tried to charge you for a damaged movie when you received it that way. I cant believe this place is still alive. I wouldnt wast your pennies. Move along, and if you dont Im sure the staff will gladly push you away with their rude behavior. God Bless!

I love this place. The selection is great, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the movie props are awesome. However, the organization strikes me as rather esoteric. For example, why is ”Searching for Bobby Fischer” filed under ”American Actors/ Laura Linney”? Im sure shes a fine actor, but she was only in the movie for five minutes. Also, what gives her appearance more weight than those of say, Laurence Fishburne, or Joe Mantegna? Can someone tell me what Im missing here? How and why are these decisions made?
