I have been a very happy client of Sara Maries for the past 11+ years! I moved to this area from out of state and was worried I wouldnt be able to find someone to fix the color catastrophe on my head from the previous salon. My regular stylist out of state had a last-minute emergency and the fill-in stylist colored and re-colored my hair 3x that evening and when I left I had over-processed orange hair, a bottle of color-depositing shampoo and tears in my eyes. The gal there had no idea what else to do and I was due in court to adopt my daughter early the next morning. Point being, my hair was a mess and I had no idea where to turn. When I moved I called a salon here in the area, explained my situation and asked who their best colorist was. This was before Sara owned her own salon and with no hesitation I was told Sara would be the gal for me. And she was! I left the salon with light brown hair (again!) with golden highlights in soft, shiny condition and right then and there knew Sara would have my loyalty as a client. Since then I have followed her to other salons and now to Salon 554. She has styled my four childrens hair many times since they were toddlers (now teens) and they absolutely love Sara and think of her as a good friend. (So do I!) Weve moved a bit further away so Im not always able to bring my children in but the drive is worth it to me for my hair. My children often talk about how much they miss the personal attention they get at Salon 554 and how much they always love their hair when Sara cuts it. On occasions when we have had to schedule the kids cuts with other stylists in the salon due to the kids schedules, we have always been happy as Sara only has the best stylists in her salon. You honestly cannot go wrong with anyone there. However, Im partial to Sara. :) Over time my hair has gotten softer and in better condition every year with the fabulous products and no-ammonia color she uses. I also love the fact that I dont have to over-think my hair...I can just leave it in Saras capable hands and know she will keep my likes and dislikes in mind and give me a style Im very happy with. And on those occasions when I want something very specific, I know she will listen attentively and deliver amazing results.

Absolutely fantastic! I was looking for a brand new style, something I hadnt tried before. I made an appointment, not knowing who would be my stylist. When I got there, the receptionist made me feel welcomed, and important. I even got a few cute little coupons as a welcome gift! The receptionist informed me that Gene would be doing my hair. Let me just say, Gene is a Gene-ious. Before he even cut one single hair on my head, he talked me through it, making suggestions, and made sure to listen to my ideas. It was a team effort! One of the best things was that I didnt feel rushed. I didnt have to worry about backing up clients or taking up to much of his time. He made sure he was completely thorough and precise with what he was doing, and he took his time. The setting is awesome. Everything looks clean, chic, and its all very soothing to the eye. No obnoxious bright colors or zebra prints plastered on the walls. Very well organized and put together, which I definitely noticed and appreciated, since I like to keep things tidy! The entire environment of the salon was very calm and positive. There were no inappropriate conversations or comments made by anyone, and I like to make a point of that since I have been to salons that have, unfortunately, thrown me into a pit of drama and trash-talk. Yuck! I also want to point out how impressed I was with their customer service. I was able to quickly and smoothly make an appointment online, and not only did I get a personalized e-mail confirmation, but a call! They expressed how they were looking forward to having me there, and addressed me by my first name. Very professional, and comfortable. There were also no pressures of buying any products. No one was shoving tubes of serum into my face saying "you should really get this, its worth the money." It all went the way I wanted, I stayed in my budget, and I left feeling absolutely beautiful! In conclusion- -Gene is fantastic (GO SEE HIM!) -Salon 554 is 150% worth it. I promise. UPDATE 2 months later: I am STILL getting compliments on my cut, at least once a day, and it has made quite the bang in my self confidence. Thrilled for my next appointment!

First time I went to 554, it was great. Sarah is an awesome stylist. I had my hair cut. Cant remember what I paid. Second time I had an all over color and trim. I didnt even have my already super short hair cut, she just trimmed up the back. (Literally took a razor to the back and a couple of snips. Like trimming your bangs.) This took all of 15, maybe 20 minutes but thats pushin it. She put an all over color on my hair, then proceeded to make me wait for over 1/2 hour while she proceeced to put foils in someone elses hair (maybe color had to cook that long anyway, but double booking, come on)??? She was 15 minutes late to begin my appointment as it was. Rinsed my hair, literally trimmed my hair in back and styled. After 2 hours of being in the salon for all of maybe 40 minutes of work $120!!!!! Are you frickin kidding me??? And, I had to reschedule my appt from the original one I made. I just happened to be in the salon and asked about my appt. The receptionist said oh, it looks like all her appts were rescheduled for that day except yours. Sarah is going to be out of the salon. I said well maybe we need to reschedule it on a day when she is here???? Owner or not, master stylist or not, this isnt LA. Totally turned me off from that salon. I paid less money when I had LONG hair to have 3 color foils and a cut. I inquired about their possibly being a mistake as the website stated $85 for a cut and all over color. The response I receives was IT STARTS at $85 depending on which stylist you go to. Really??? Where does itsay that on the website??? Then, I can reschedule you with a stylist that only charges $85.00. So much for customer service. Granted it is a hip salon. But $120.00 for 40 minutes of actual WORK! I guess if you own the salon you can charge whatever you want.

Run. Run screaming. Im pretty much nearly bald after a stylist decided they knew better than me and butchered my head. 7 inches of hair. Gone. I went in asking for long layers. What I got is this bizarre, choppy long bob that doesnt even reach my shoulders. My husband commented "looked like the stylist fell asleep halfway through the haircut." I cant say I disagree. The stylist, of course, started from the back and conveniently didnt provide a mirror, nor a length check. As she worked her way forward, I knew something was very, very wrong as chunks of hair were literally falling around me. She sliced entire swaths off the side in giant, choppy cuts, and it was too late to stop her, all the while cooing about how thick my hair is. Was. Now its a bowl-cut looking mess. with most of that fullness and thickness sliced away in what I can only describe as a weed-whackeresque technique. The end results of the butchering? Not even enough hair to put in a pony tail (actually important at my job), with these giant "not bangs" pieces of layering that abruptly poke me in the eyes and face and cannot be wrangled back without a prayer and half a box of safety pins. Were not talking a few wisps so much as a full mushroom of so very super short hair ballooning around my head with a few dull pieces that barely escaped the carnage clinging to my neck under the weight of whatever the hell happened. I am not what youd call a high maintenence person, and I didnt want a high fuss do. Unfortunately my opinion meant zero to the stylist who I suppose expects me to spend at least an hour with a round brush and blow dryer getting things into a less horrific state each morning. I have kids and a demanding job, and I cant even put my hair back behind my ears now.
